I went expected to see something much better than the average garden center. While the grounds are beautiful (like in the catalogue), the plants were so so and the prices were high. Careful shopping on the right day of the week (late on Thursdays) will be better and cheaper at Home Depot.
I'm an old gardener and love sending the amaryllis from WFF every Christmas to many friends and family. They are, without any doubt, the finest specimens to be found anywhere. If you send anything else, it's second best!
I've used White Flower Farms for almost all of my flower garden selections. Their bulbs are HUGE and the resultant flowers are always impressive. I'm always a bit frustrated as they ship when they know it's time to plant....which is not necessarily when I order. But I'm always pleased with the quality of the bulbs and plants when they arrive. I've used other online suppliers and am always unhappy with the quality of their merchandise. Not so with White Flower Farms. When I hit the "place order" button, it's always a good experience.
This was the second stop on a day trip to Connecticut. It's way out there for us, but was nice to visit the area. Litchfield is beautiful! It's definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. I'm glad I had a gift certificate as the prices are certainly upscale!
We visited White Flower Farm on a sunny, breezy day. Living in Ohio, we have been getting their catalogs for years and ordering specialty items from them on occasion. At last we had the opportunity to enjoy the fabulous gardens we have long admired in their catalogs and on their website. Our friends who were hosting our visit had just moved into a new home and we wanted to purchase a few plants and containers for them as a housewarming gift. All was well until we got to the check-out where we were greeted by two absolutely humorless older women. I don't know if these two were owners or employees but they really need to work somewhere other than the front end where they are the primary customer contact. Our questions were made to feel like impositions. guess they haven't quite made the connection that the customer put's the money in their payroll account. After that, a walk back to the car through the beautiful grounds brought my blood pressure back in check and reminded me of the joys of internet retail.Summation, a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to buy there.
went by on a stunning summer day to wander about the rather incredible gardens in Morris CT. Beds in full summer glory and stunning. Selection per usual excellent with a wide array of plants for experienced gardeners. For the prices , best to be with specific since easy to spend a fortune on the unique and unusual. Wide array of the usual faves and some deep dark mystery plants to baffle. Always a champ..FYI GPS navigation will show two addresses, the Morris Ct garden and shop and the Torrington CT shipping facility ( of course GPS nav doesn't say an old factory site with no mention of the gardens address. Go to Morris, much prettier!
Brought friends for the first time...I love walking through their beautiful display gardens to get ideas. I usually purchase plants, but didn't this visit. I don't buy from catalogs since I want to see the plant I am purchasing. They set the standard for nurseries in CT.Worth the visit!
We ordered from White Flower Farm for years. They have a wide range of plants. The orders we have received have been uniformly excellent. A bit pricey. The shipping charge seems excessive, especially since we live in an abutting state.
I come every year in June for their open house and sale. I live in Oregon, so I can only buy things I can pack in my suitcase. I love their bare root choices. This year I picked up a bleeding heart and a day lily. So excited to transfer some Connecticut beauty to the high desert of Oregon!
I have ordered everything from planters to bulbs from them, and it has all exceeded my expectations with quality and beautiful planting results !! Quick shipping, excellent packaging, good on-line advice and how-to videos. You can't fail !! :-)
WFF is a Litchfield County institution. My great-grandmother bought her peonies there (some of which are now in my garden). The staff is very knowledgable, and a trip there is an experience. Lots of great ideas for your own garden pairings. Their perennials are top notch. While beautiful, the catalog is no substitute for a walk through their gardens.
This place is a first class operation with healthy beautiful plants for sale and sound advice for keeping them alive and flourishing. The address is a bit off though since White Flower Farm is really in Morris, Ct--not Litchfield. No matter, it' still on Rt. 63. If you just want to see beautiful gardens, go in mid-June to mid-September.
We have purchased plants from WFF for many years,The quality of the plants/ bulbs are for better/ bigger then any other cMail order company we have ever used.
White Flower Farm is at its best in spring and fall. Their selection of bulbs, perennials, and unusual flora is not to be believed. Everything is displayed beautifully making the customer want some of everything. They also sell online and by catalogue, but the experience of seeing and smelling their exhibits is worth the trip. Also, plan to have lunch or dinner at one of the fine restaurants in the area.West St. Grille is a good place to start.
Ordered plants for Christmas gifts, they were received in a timely manner, properly packed and as described on their web site. Very pleased and would use again for myself and recomend to others.
