Silver Sands is a beautiful area- with a lot of hiking trails, rare birds, and a gorgeous coastal view of the Long Island Sound. There is a dog park there, and it has a very fun boardwalk that connects it near the downtown of Milford until Walnut Beach. It is a great place to get morning exercise, go sea-shelling, hiking, kayaking, or have a romantic date.
My husband and I came here several times a week last summer to walk the boardwalk. From one end and back again is about a mile and a half or 40 minutes. There's something so special about walking along the beach--the birds, the smells, the sounds of the water lapping the shore. Only downside: people throw their trash into the wetlands, and especially at low tide this garbage is visible from the bridge connecting the parking lot with the beach. Can't wait for warmer weather to resume our walks!
Well there aren't many amenities, but there is the sand bar to Charles Island which get a lot of use. It's convenient, and if i recall free... The sun shines the same here as any other beach....There is a nice long walk you can take to Walnut Beach, and some places for food - Lazy Lobster, an Ice cream place....Overall
I keep going here. The Place is perfect for any age group. Perfect Jogging/Evening walk track, very nice Boardwalk which connects Silver Sand Beach to Walnut Beach. There is a small island as well which is connected to the Beach most of the times when water level goes low. I love that walk. Water is clean and not very deep. Beach has also got Green park where we did Barbeque Party. Ample Parking space in that Park :) All together, a perfect place to spend some relaxing time.
We got our engagement photos taken here - a beautiful location. Love the beach, walking out to the island, the rebuilt boardwalk (no attractions, just a walking path through the beach/marsh). Definitely a must-do on a sunny day.
First off, Silver Sands is a great beach. They have a pier into the Island Sound, and have a boardwalk that is roughly a little more that an mile. The beach is clean for the most part, and the water is also clean. The boardwalk connects Silver Sands with Wlanut Beach, the local city beach. I have spent many relaxing visits at Walnut Beach, and Silver Sands. At low tide you can walk out on the tombolo to get to Charles Island. You have to plan your timing perfect, if you don't, you will be stuck until someone rescues you. The beach is a little rocky, but the beautiful sunrises, and sunsets make up for it. Silver Sands has sections taped off, because it is a bird sanctuary, like Charles Island.
We come here a lot as it is closer to home and never as crowded as the beaches closer to Rhode Island and New London Beaches. It's a clean beach (w/ porta potty access ) a boardwalk to use to walk along the beaches in the area When the tide is low u can walk to nearby Charles Island. The beach is alittle rocky but no worse than any other Ct beach. Just Afew blocks away is a little cafe called the Greek spot. It's worth the short walk to check it out
Beautiful beach for ct. Great boardwalk connecting to the city beach ,walnut beach. Great to walk anytime of year. Peaceful and pleasant. Also fun to walk out on the sandbar out to Charles island. Captain kid is said to have buried his treasure on it! Just be careful to come back before tide starts to come in. Great picnic area as we'll with wooden picnic tables.
Spent a nice relaxing day at the beach. The boardwalk was great! The park is clean and the water is as good as it can be for the long island sound.
I love going to visit the State Park. They have very lovely walkways and paths and a nice clean beaches. it is somewhere to go if you like to walk, they have a boardwalk that connects Silver Sands beach and walnut beach and I think the boardwalk is a mile and a half long. Very nice place to take pictures and in the summer to spend time on the beach.
Very peaceful walk along the sound. Takes away the stress. Views of the shoreline beaches is incredible.
My brother was in town and wanted to put his feet into some sand and ocean.. so we took a quick drive to Silver Sands. It's easy to get to from Milford, and the park is free. The park was clean, the beach and water perfectly gorgeous. It was a weekday in September, so the park was busy but not crowded, and parking was quite simple. We walked the length of the boardwalk, and sunk our feet into the Sound for a few minutes. As we returned to our car, people were flying kites - it was a nice way to spend the afternoon.
Easy to get through from the I95 and an excellent view of the Long Island Sound. We walked along the boardwalk across the wetlands and then parallel to the beach. The causeway to the island was underwater which was a shame but we went along about a mile and walked out onto a pier which allowed us to look back at the coast we had walked along. It was enhanced by the fact it was a sunny day but it would still be nice on an overcast day.
The park is free and is easily accessible from I-95. The view on the sound was awesome watching the fishing boats, sail boats and even a tug /barge push by. The water is clean. Off the shore is Charlie Island which is accessible in low tide by a sand bar that leads from shore. From May to early September access is prohibited due to nesting and mating of birds.Even with a board walk their is no circus atmosphere hear. Make sure you bring something to eat or drink with you. Nothing at the park. Great views and easily accessible. Great day was had..
this is a very pretty beach.clean water views as far as you can see. watch the sail boats go by and get a tan for your time.
