We love this restaurant and come at least once a year with my daughter when she visits. I recently planned a special birthday there for friends. They loved it too and agreed this is a special place. The food is delicious--we particularly like the Delmonico Steak, Jamaican Chicken and Shrimp Creole. The little touches make this place even more special. Every detail is thought about from the moment you enter the barn doors...decor fits the country atmosphere...in the winter there are candles everywhere as dusk sets in...the wine glasses from tastings are beautifully wrapped...Entrees have lovely embellishments of herbs and flowers...Doggy bags even include a sprig of Rosemary. For my birthday celebration they brought out princess cake with candles for my friends and called me before to make sure they had the details correct. Definitely worth the trip....
What a great day trip! My husband and I met friends at the vineyard on a Saturday afternoon. We loved it from the moment we walked in the doors. The decorations for the autumn season is so inviting to all. It is cozy, charming, and quaint. We enjoyed ourselves in the wine tasting room sipping on different wines and eating different cheeses from the cheese plate we ordered. The wine was very good and the young man serving the wines was very knowledgeable about each wine he poured us. We then had late lunch reservations in the restaurant in the barn. What a wonderful experience. The barn is so charming with the fireplace and candles throughout. It is a beautifully romantic restaurant with absolutely delicious food! Everything we ordered was top of the line! We plan on coming back in the late spring when we can enjoy the beauty of the outside of the vineyard as well as the inside. Don't miss this place if you are traveling near. It's a must!
Each year a stop at Sharpe Hill is a must. The area is beautiful and the building is old with a lot of character and charm. There are a couple of wines that I do enjoy at Sharpe Hill. This year we were able to get reservations to dine in the restaurant. The food was OK it was not as good as expected. But the upstairs area was quit charming.
Had a lovely afternoon here. The vineyard is beautiful. The wine server was friendly and helpful. Quite a bargain, a glass and fifteen tastes of fifteen different wines. Although, I didn't care for most of the wines, there were a few that were noteworthy. The only negative is that they would not let us eat the cheese that we brought from home. They said something about health violation? Not sure what that was about because restaurant was not open and we were sitting outside on wooden tables. They did say we could purchase their cheese plate for fifteen dollars. We declined.
Very welcoming - wine tasting in the garden - good selection of wines to try and knowledgable staff. Restaurant excellent but need to book in advance. Wines good value, well run business
Very nice place to spend some time sampling the wines. The place was pretty crowded on a Saturday evening, so service was somewhat slow. The vineyards are very scenic. I was not aware of any tours or walks being offered, so basically you sit or stand in a fenced in area tasting the wines.Had inquired about the restaurant and was told reservations had to be made weeks in advance with a deposit. Our wine server said the food was fantastic, but expect to pay $$$$$. If I had dinner my overall rating may have been higher.
My husband and I had the rare opportunity to have lunch without our children. We dined at Sharpe Hill Vineyard and were not disappointed! They suggest an hours time for wine tasting. I mistakenly did not allow for enough time. They have you find a comfy spot in the shade under the trees overlooking the vines and they come to you with each tasting-no standing at a bar swigging them one after another. Next time I will order their wonderful fruit and cheese plate for during the tasting. The gentleman in charge of the tastings on the day we were there (Anton) was phenomenal! How he kept everyone's individual tastings in his head I will never know. After our tasting, we went to the garden dining area for lunch. Our server Miriam was knowledgeable and provided a lovely dining experience. I wish I took a picture of my food-it was as delicious as it was beautiful. Word to the wise-do NOT go here if you are in a rush! This place is meant to be savored, like the wine. Enjoy!
If you are reading this page, then you are considering visiting a place that you must see! Make a reservation for "lunch" or dinner, arrive 45 minutes to an hour before your reservation, taste the full flight under the trees and experience an ambience unlike any other you're likely to see on the east coast. The laid back vibe, gorgeously appointed buildings, grounds and dining courtyard coupled with the friendly service will blow you away. It certainly did us.I place the word "lunch" in quotes, as it seems such an inadequate description of the fine dining experience we had. We started with the cheese and fruit plate as appetizer (a must-have, high-end selection that will put you in foodie heaven). In our party of four, we ordered two servings of filet mignon, a Delmonico steak and the lamb chop. Each was thoroughly enjoyed. My Delmonico was superbly prepared with a dry rub that knocked it out of the park. After a while, I realized I had stopped talking and I became conscious that I was only making sounds of delight. I also tasted the filet mignon. It was so tender that I'm sure it could be enjoyed without teeth! We all enjoyed the meal with a bottle of the St. Croix, a great pairing, and also my first exposure to the grape. It was thoroughly enjoyable. After topping it off with a decadent chocolate torte and tri-chocolate mousse with a double espresso, we were entirely satiated. Both our tasting pourer and our lunch server were personable, the latter adding even to that great meal.Do yourself a favor: spend a few hours with good friends in this beautiful setting. You won't be disappointed.
We stopped by for a wine tasting and really enjoyed ourselves. We went for the full slate of wines, so 12 wines for $12 tasting, which is pretty good for this area. Dry wines are the type we tend towards, and most of their wines are dry/semi-dry, so we liked them all. Loved four of them enough to bring home bottles :) In any case, it's a good deal, and a nice place. You pay at the counter, then they send you out to a nice shaded grassy area outside with comfortable seating, and they bring the wine to you. The server was very friendly and gave us decent pours, and we had a good time relaxing overlooking the vines. We will certainly go back, it was a nice experience, especially on a beautiful day, and the wines are good and reasonably prices. It's worth the drive.
I had been excited to go to Sharpe Hill for quite some time, I am glad I got it out of my system. The young man who was a server on the deck on Sunday in April had zero personality. I told him I was only interested inthe reds. With a smirk on his little face, he poured me a Riesling. I paid for a 1/2 tasting - $7.00 for 5 samples, a decent price. When they say sample, it is not enough for an ant. It was actually insulting and embarrasing. I would say the samples were 1/2 a shot glass.Rather than asking me what I would like to sample next off the tasting menu, he chose everything for me in the order he preferred. Most reds were light/medium body and dry, there was only one hearty red that was to my liking. I will stick with the Ballet of Angels. The atmosphere was ho hum, dull and boring.
Sharpe Hill is located in a new/yet old feel barn decorated with nice antiques. I've been before and the food was awesome. This visit was just to sample some wines and take in the moment. Ballet of Angels, a commercial success started the tasting and ended with Late Harvest dessert wine. The server was informative and paced with our relaxed mood. If the weather was warmer, a walk through the vines might have been fun. We visited on early part of Friday afternoon. Other GPS comments are true -- CT has many back roads the GPS may take you for a nice ride through the countryside!
What a beautiful vineyard. After the wine sampling in the backyard, we hiked up the "sharpe" hill to see the view which was beautiful because of the seasonal foliage. Worth the trip!!!
First of all I must say I have visited this winery several times and most of my experiences have been good. The location is beautiful and they have a large variety of wines. That said, I was completely shocked by the poor customer service on my last visit.I visited with friends on a busy Saturday afternoon. We were told that the outdoor tasting service would be a little slow because a party of 20 had just arrived (a bachelorette party). No big deal to us, we just wanted to relax. However, within a few minutes, the owner/manager of the vineyard came out and started an altercation with the party of 20! She accused the group of not having a reservation and asked them to please hurry up because the CT wine association was visiting that afternoon and they needed the space. The leader of the bachelorette party insisted that she had called and made a reservation 2 months ago, and the vineyard owner continued to argue with her. This went on for about 15 minutes, while my friends and I (and the other patrons) looked on in shock. The poor bride-to-be was on the verge of tears. Other Sharpe Hill staff joined in to back up the owner, arguing loudly with members of the bachelorette party. Eventually the group left in a huff, and when they asked to get a refund, the owner vehemently insisted that they would NOT be recieving a refund. My friends and I were so shocked at the owner's boorish manners and extremely poor customer service. This is supposed to be a winery, not a dive bar. I would have been absolutely mortified to be treated this way. I used to enjoy visiting Sharpe Hill but now that I see the quality of the management here, I don't think I will be returning.
Don't trust your GPS to give you the fastest route. I did and traveled through miles of residential neighborhoods before we found the vineyard.Beautiful grounds, wonderful hosts, gorgeous decorations. Great wines. What else is there?
The location is beautiful, the wine wonderful, and the vibe perfect. We live very close to it and it's still a treat. And don't forget the restaurant, which is top shelf.
