Take a walk during day or night, it's a piece of history, art and full of small local stores, restaurants, Yale and the magic of this New England's town..
A very beautiful street that takes you back in time. Every building is truly unique, and I would highly recommend it for everyone who enjoys taking a stroll and checking out some amazing architecture. A must see in New Haven (in my humble opinion).
Such a beautiful area! The green. The shops. The beautiful buidlings. I visited several days and always enjoyed seeing something new.
The Yale Art Gallery and the British Art Center, a good bookstore/café, a bunch of pretty good restaurants, two good jewelers and some eclectic clothing stores - there's enough to keep you busy for a whole day on just a few short blocks.
So many nice, great places and so little time. The new New Haven is interesting to be sure. It's been YEARS since I was here so to see so many kinds of restaurants and shops to choose from and even find some old ones on Chapel, like my old comic book store still open. I went in and got a couple of Groo The Wanderer comics. And the Indian palace restaurant was still open so we made pigs of ourselves there trying to store up on the best Indian food in the US!
You will enjoy strolling, but even more so, you will enjoy all of the wonderful eating spots, stop into any and you will be happy.
There are lots of restaurants and cute boutique shops along Chapel Street. There is also a convenient movie theatre - Bow Tie. You do need to be careful - lots of pandering in this area, which surprised us.
Lots of creative shops along at least the 1100 block of Chapel. My teen daughter loves it too because she takes a summer course called Explo at Yale and has fallen in love with the city I was born in.
This street is in the midst of the Yale community. It has a variety of small upscale shops and businesses, Art Galleries, restaurants and a hotel and mall. I happen to enjoy Atticus bookstore/ restaurant for a cup of soup or good sandwich or pastry. Bread is excellent and they have a fresh takeout sandwiches during lunch, all in the midst of a bookstore. Always bustling.
Not your student slum- some really nice stores, and even better places for coffee or lunch. Parking free on Sundays.
Lovely shop displays, souvenirs, and tons of restaurants and cafes...its worth a browse if in Down town New Haven.
This street has a great variety of shops and restaurants and a couple of art museums. We spent a couple of hours browsing and snacking and got a bit of exercise too. Worth a visit.
The 2-3 long blocks of Chapel Street between Church and York Streets are filled with snazzzy restaurants, shops featuring upscale clothes, jewelry, gifts. home accessories, Atticus Bookstore and Cafe, and the Yale Art Gallery, Yale British Art Museum and the Yale Repertory Theater. There is on street parking that is convenient and accepts credit cards. Do some shopping, eat a bit and visit a Museum--a perfect afternoon or evening. Most stay open until 9-10 PM.
I recommend walking the section of Chapel adjoining and then east of Yale as part of a visit to one of Yale's museums, or to Yale itself. As you get west of Yale it becomes less interesting, and can be problematic.
We like to go walk around New Haven and window shop. There are lots of nice museums to go to. There's entertainment. It's a pretty area with a lot going on.
