Historical chapel. Friendly members. Meaningful service. Well worth the visit. We were married there 31 years ago and return each year. Still charming.
This unique, small, Victorian-era, non-sectarian, wooden chapel is easy to locate on Montauk Avenue. The outside is beautifully decorated in contrasting black and white. Very photogenic. The notice-board indicates that they run Sunday morning services (which, according to their website, are held throughout the summer and on special occasions, such as Christmas).
This is such a treasure, tucked into a neighborhood. its so small, that its easy to miss. Lovely for church services, and fantastic, and it is available to be booked for weddings.
This chapel date back to 1872, very gothic and beautiful. I have attended many a lovely wedding there (a VERY popular choice around here) and also church services. Each Sunday during the summer brings a different pastor/minister/preacher/reverend (call them what you wish) to perform services.
We like to attend services at Pequot Chapel in the summertime, and it is a favorite spot for lovely summer weddings. Each week there is a different clergyperson presiding. The Tiffany windows are inspirational, and the chapel has good ventilation so that it is never too hot.
This charming American Gothic Chapel is open only in the Summer from the first Sunday in June until Labor Day. The architecture is attributed to James Renwick and the stained glass windows - there are two by Lois Comfort Tiffany - are spectacular. Each week they have a different Minister, from a different faith, lead the service. Services are held at 11:00 AM and Chapel's Bells ring 15 minutes before to remind the residents of the area "it's time to head for Church". If you are in New London on a Sunday, check out their web site www.pequotchapel.org for the schedule. The Chapel is warm and welcoming to visitors and, as a bonus, walk around the area and see many of the outstanding historic homes. Only one block from the Thames River & Long Island Sound and picturesque lighthouse.
