We go to the Garde occasionally for tours of Broadway shows and ballet, but this time we went to see the screening of Selma. This is such a wonderful home town theater, we were delighted that at the start of the showing Mr. Siegel celebrated his wife's birthday! The beautiful renovations of this historic theater make it a lovely space. Upstairs in the Oasis Room you can hear wonderful jazz music for a very reasonable price-- The artists, often promoting new musical releases, are of the highest caliber. If you haven't visited the Garde, do so! You won't regret it.
My husband and I like to see the ballets performed here, as well as The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra. Something definitely worth the venture, and yes it's hard to find street parking but it's downtown New London.... all part of the charm
I've seen many shows at this theater. Located in downtown New London, it's easy to find (although good luck finding parking) and surrounded by lots of restaurants- so you can eat before the show!Their entertainment varies to music, plays. dance and even classis movies and shows for children. There is something for everyone!
We went to The Garde last week to see the traveling Broadway show "Jekyll & Hyde". It was spectacular. Talented, enthusiastic and professional actors gave us a great performance. The theater is magnificent, the price for live theater is very reasonable. Don't miss an opportunity to see a show at The Garde. wow.
The revamp on this theatre is amazing! All the hand painting in morroccan style is beautiful. And who doesn't like a glass of wine during the movie? Sitting in the balcony really gives you a great movie experience, but sit on the main floor for live shows.
The Garde Arts Center is a classic spot in Downtown New London CT. They provide a beautiful space to watch movies, fundraise for the community & showcase amazing performances. A must visit during a stay in New London
This is absolutely the best place to enjoy a film. It is state of the art digital with incredible surround sound. Once you see a film here you won't go anywhere else. The stage shows are awesome. Great talent and presentation.
This Arts Center is a beautiful place to attend great plays, symphonies or just a movie. It's located in downtown New London and there are also great restaurants nearby to start off or end the event.
I have been tithe Garde on numerous occasions to see several different plays, musicals, and once a movie and have always been extremely pleased and more than delighted with my visit. I love going to The Garde during the Christmas season, as they always decorate with style and grace, just beautiful. I took my ten year old daughter and four year old niece to see the musical, Shrek and they were thrilled!! The best seats in the house are definitely in the balcony, in the loge area, which is basically the two front rows of the balcony. Especially if you have young children, the loge offers the best view in the house. It costs a bit more, but it's well worth the added expense, as you will experience the show in its entirety without having to squint or try to see over someone's head!!! My only complaint is that they do not serve popcorn, which is a bit of a disappointment for the kids. Definitely a great place to introduce your children to the theatre without having to drive to New York City, but still NYC quality. Love it and you will too!!!
The Garde is such a warm and welcoming place. My children love to go there for the special events and always have a great time.
This grand theater provides an amazing array of entertaining options considering the size of New London. The restored Morrocan decor always makes me smile when I'm there. don't miss it.
Went to the Manhattan short film fest this time. I have been before and the theatre is visually interesting, chairs comfortable and aisle knee space wide enough. They offer a great venue that is convenient and provides a good view from your seat and sound. The staff are nice and patrons range from elderly with walkers, families, to teens and 20 year olds so the shows have wide appeal and are reasonably priced. This time it was $10 for 10 short films for 2 hours. This is the first time I have seen a film here and they did a great job. I usually see live theatre but it has been awhile and I forgot how pleasant this venue really is. The parking, I paid $5 to park behind Fiddleheads which is across the street so not too far away.
For all that New London lacks The Garde Arts Center takes up the slack. The Arts Center offers a great variety of shows Mostly top name acts featuring.Rock,Blues Modern dance.Symphonies Ballets,Opera and shows for children etc.The inside is newly remodeled.Tastefully done take sometime to muse through and look at the motifs.Prices are what you would expect to pay perhaps a little less than the big city fares.Parking can be a hassle so plan out where and when to get to the shows. The Garde Arts Center adds some class, culture and entertainment to everyone in attendance.Go enjoy yourselves. This venue was PERFECT for the event I attended, the Miss Connecticut America Pageant. Absolutely gorgeous interior. My crew of 8 were seated in the Loge with perfect views. Beautiful snack areas as well. Parking is on street or at a garage (charged $5 for this event) around the corner.
The Garde Arts Center has been restored to the Moroccan interior it featured when it was a vaudeville theater in the 1920s and has become a fantastic venue for all sorts of programming for all ages. Broadway shows, movies, debates and lectures, ballet, opera, Eastern CT Symphony and other musical events are just of a few of the things happening here. The Garde also offers several programs a year for children. Highly-recommended...
