When you are first entering the museum, you ride up what is like a moving ramp. There isn't a warning at the bottom about how steep it is, but if you have small children you might want to be ready to make sure they don't fall. There are many exhibits about the Navy, ships, weather, etc., which is a nice way to spend some time. I went as a part of my husband's Navy reunion, and most likely never would have gone otherwise.
We we're suppose to take a harbor cruise of the shipyard but bad weather canceled it. Fortunately we were able to see this museum instead & visit the Wisconsin too. My boys enjoyed it very much.
Located at the heart of much of America's Naval history. A state of the art museum covering many different aspects of Early American history. Displays are informative and many are interactive. A great place for families or school groups. Top your visit off with a visit to this country's largest battle ship the Wisconsin. Gigantic guns top a ship that carried a crew of over 1500 men. Visit with volunteers who man the ship during your visit some who are navy vets. A five star experience.
Well laid out, very organized. A must for any naval lover. Take time to talk to the volunteers, especially the retired navy veterans. Lots for all ages and hands on activities too. Also a nice gift shop and washrooms
We took our 4 and 5 year olds to Nauticus and were able to board the USS Wisconsin battle ship. It is a self-guided tour. We were able to explore all over the battleship and view some areas inside it as well. It was very cool! They also had a nautical museum and a childrens exhibit that was very hands-on. All in all we spent 2-3 hrs there and it was worth every penny. There is an optional guided tour of the inside of the ship that costs extra, it last approximately 2 hrs but we didn't do that part. It looked pretty neat as well.
Please, can someone from TripAdvisor correct the location?I was looking up things to do in Norfolk, CT and got all excited when I saw this. Thought it would be a great way to spend the afternoon while waiting to go to the concert later in the evening. Then it hit me: "wait a minute, Norfolk, CT is nowhere near the water, this must be in VIRGINIA". I'm glad I found this though. Taking a road trip down there to see it soon! :)
So I get that I am a man so there is a propensity to love a big boat with big guns and things to look at. My female friend would rather have boiled her own eyeballs in hot oil whilst they were still in her head. Nonetheless I say go and learn some of Norfolk (and the US's) outstanding naval history and USS Wis is the ship to learn about.First of all its MASSIVER than you would ever think. Need more be said? The rest of the exhibit is also outstanding. Lil boy heaven. You get to play with water and see fishes and sharks. What more do you want?Forget Virginia Beach people Norfolk is about military man so go see it!
