Over all a nice aquarium. Surprising how large the space is - lots of unused space inside. The highlights for my kids were the shark tank (a good number of very large sharks swimming right next to you), and the hands-on crab/lobster exhibit. The woman working that exhibit was great at explaining things to the kids in an interesting way. We enjoyed the IMAX movie about Lemurs as well.Note - parking on-site is a dollar an hour.
nice place, not too big, but hate it when I have to pay extra for bird attraction, etc. Just include it all in the price.
My 8-year old son and I just visited the Maritime Aquarium for the 2nd time and had a great experience. From the moment you enter and all throughout, natural lighting is abundant and the common areas offer plenty of space to stop and plan your next steps. We thoroughly enjoyed our Imax movie on beluga whales and the tanks to touch sting rays and jellies (not jellyfish since they aren't fish) were very well organized and spacious. I d not have any complaints and would highly recommend this aquarium to families. Great gift shop too!A side note...if you have been to some of the other New England aquariums recently that seem dated and sort of grungy, Norwalk will be a real pleasure!
The maritime center in Norwalk is a great place for everyone. Kids love the touch tanks and adults like learning about the water that we live next to. The repurposed building is beautiful and the staff is always helpful. Plan on eating in a local eatery though, not in the building.A great day and night if you take in a film at the IMAX theatre. Enjoy !
We've got an annual membership to The Maritime Aquarium, bringing two kids every once in a while. My favorite attraction is the shark aquarium. We love seeing the seals too. There is an outside space as well by the water. However playground with the boat is really dated and need restoration and more fun things for kids to do as its a bit boring… I also wasn't please that you have to pay an additional ticket price on top of the membership whenever there are special events.
Very varied amount of things to see & do. IMAX Theater Very Cool ! They always have themed attractions such as the Mere Cats, Seals, or The Sharks
This is a great place for kids of all ages. There is an iMax theater and there are changing exhibits and educational opportunities. My family has gone many times and each time we enjoy it. Little children will enjoy the opportunity to touch things like starfish, and older children will enjoy the exhibits to learn more about marine life. It is best to check it out on-line to see if there are exhibits or opportunities your family would enjoy for which a specific time or purchase of a ticket is necessary, e.g. my kids loved my gift to them of a penguin encounter when they were younger.
I haven't been to this aquarium in years and I was impressed! The staff was friendly and gave suggestions on how to make the most of our visit. The kids loved the Stingray touch tank, the Jelly fish touch tank, the new Dragon exhibit, the feeding of the seals, and all the other exhibits we encountered during our visit. I will definitely return again in the near future.
Norwalk is very fortunate to have such a wonderful aquarium. It is a great place to take 3 year olds as well as 60 year olds. So many fish to see-- the shark tank is huge and fascinating. The seal "tank" can be watched for 30 minutes and even the young love to hear the trainers talk. Otters scrambling around their 'cage' and small fish in their tank are endlessly fascinating to all. Everyone can find something to entertain them.
Kids had so many new experiences - watching the seals being fed, touching stingrays and moon jellyfish, watched IMAX movie and spent a great afternoon there! Highly recommend.
This is a gem in Norwalk, fun for all ages. Would like to see them more integrated into their surroundings, especially the river and riverbank.
Children, young and old love this aquarium. We have had a family membership for several years and enjoy going often with our grandchildren. They are always excited to go and see new exhibits and to also see their favorites like the live shark tank.
The Maritime Aquarium is a wonderful attraction in Norwalk. It's manageable in size so that you can see the whole thing in a few hours or less. There's hands-on fun for kids (ray touch tank) and other supervised areas for learning and touching sea creatures. The shark tank is beautiful and there are regular feedings to watch. The sea lion show is fun for the kids as well. There's an attached Imax theater with great nature-based movies if you have more time. If you're local to the area, I'd also highly recommend the school-break and summer -break camps that they do for kids. My son has gone several times and raves about it - he really loves the staff and the activities. It's education and fun. So glad to have this resource in our community.
We took 2 Grand kids 2 and 4 for a Visit. It was cold and the parking is across the street. But it wasn't too bad of a walk with 1 stroller. I would say it great for 2-8 year old Kids. Its Pretty small compared with Mystic But I'm sure more is going on during the warmer Months. Price was reasonable. We had a good time.
