Took my family there for pumpkins, the hay ride and the corn maze on a Saturday around 4. The pumpkins were not pick your own. The hayride was closed for the day. There was an extra charge for a freight train that was hidden behind a door and curtains. The corn maze was pretty sparse and frustrating to find clues for the game associated with it for my daughter who is four. We walked around it for 20 min and found only 3 clues. I also managed to pick up poison ivy while in the corn maze. The cider donuts were pretty tasteless and stale. And most of the pick your own apples meant picking rotting ones off of the ground. The redeeming qualities were that the location of the farm is visually beautiful up on the hill. The apple pie was fabulous but everything was very overpriced.March Farm and Daisi Hill Farm are MUCH better and well worth an extra bit of time in the car!
a back in time atmosphere but typical of area- home baked goods tomatoes are organic it looks inviting and beautiful scenery
I know the owners and they are just caring people. Period. They run a neat place, and if you and you family are into a orchard and berry farm visit, this one in the Ellsworth section of Sharon is a nice place t0 come see.
I went to Ellsworth today to pick apples. I told the woman at the stand that I wanted Cortlands and Macintosh apples. She told me there was plenty of everything. I went to the back of the property for the Cortlands, and they didn't look good at all.....small and sickly looking. Then I went to the Macintosh aisle and saw that ALL the apples were on the ground. Many of them were getting moldy, so I didn't get any. Plus we were surrounded by gnats.....I think this may have been because of the apples all over the ground--i mean there were hundreds of apples on the ground. I think it may have been the apples that attracted the bugs because we went across the street to go into the corn maize, and we didn't come across one bug. The bugs at the orchard were so bad we had to leave. The woman at the stand said they're everywhere, but they're not. Also bought the cider donuts, and my husband said they were terrible. Next time we're going to Great Barrington, MA for apples.
Support your local famers. They have great produce and cider. They are warm people. Do visit. An overall great spot.
My family and I decided to take a Sunday drive to Sharon for apple picking. The price was higher than quoted in the web site and the apples were terrible. I have picked apples every year most of my life, and have never seen apples in such poor condition. The teen working said they had been the victim of a hail storm and were still fine. They should have been discounted because of the damage. Also, there were so many apples on the ground that gnats were everywhere, I had to pull my sweatshirt over my head to walk around. when we returned to our car a woman who worked there came to the car to make sure we were not stealing any extra apples. We left without even stopping by the farm stand. Do not bother to make the trip.
I am not one to write reviews but I really have to for this one. I drove over an hour to meet up with friends to go apple, blueberry and pumpkin picking at Ellsworth Farm. I was appalled by how rudely we were treated by the woman as we had driven there to support THEM and THEIR farm. We had never been to this particular farm and asked how it worked and they were unusually bothered to explain their process to us. My boyfriend wanted to blueberry pick and the woman let him go and as soon as the rest of us told her we wanted to she said it wouldn't be a good idea since there weren't enough left for more than one person. As soon as my boyfriend was out of sight she told us the blueberrys were no good anyway and we didn't want them. This was only one of a few complaints and stories from that day. Unfortunately we were also overcharged. We will not be going back.
Fresh raspberries were delicious and picking was fun! The young lady that worked there was very helpful as she even came outside to give me a quick lesson on correct picking!
I bring my family here every fall to get our apples and pumpkins. The cider press if a thing of beauty! The value is fair, and the experience is wonderful. I'm so grateful I have the opportunity to include this place in my family's annual traditions!
Great strawberry and apple picking!!! and Pumpkins in the fall. Very convenient.
This place epitomizes the image of Connecticut as an inhospitable, hostile, and all-around place to avoid. As you drive into the parking lot, you are greeted by a "gentleman" that basically questions you as to what you are doing there. Is this not a farm that is open to the public? The retail store is overpriced and lacks variety as much as the staff lacks personality. The attractions listed on the website are obviously embellished by an extremely imaginative and creative web designer. You are better served by visiting your local Stop and Shop or just simply avoiding this horrible establishment.
I have been a customer of Ellsworth Farm for years. It is a wonderful place to take family or friends visiting in the area - beautiful scenery, peaceful and excellent fruit. My husband and I like to pick the fruit ourselves. However, there has been a problem with their version of how many quarts we should pay for and how many quarts we actually had when we returned home. This has happened in the past with certain people at the checkout; I had e-mailed them complaining but received no response. Later visits seemed to be alright, but today we were charged for five quarts of blueberries and, upon measuring at home, had only four (and these were not topped off; they were quite level on top). If you plan to pick your own of anything, my suggestion would be to ask the checkout person to actually show you the quart measurement and make sure it is full. We made the mistake of trusting (she did it all with her back to us, very quickly) and were overcharged.
