This orchard store is authentic. They are open most of the year and always have fresh, crisp apples. I don't know how they do it but the apples seem tree-fresh all year. The bakery is a great addition with top notch pies for reasonable prices. They sell lots of cider and do have other vegetables and fruits as well. Try the frozen chicken pot pies. They are great to keep on hand and taste homemade. It's a bit out of the way but that adds to the charm - nice ride.
Aside from the great selection of locally grown apples, the quaint gift shop is filled with pastries, ciders and other reminders of earlier days. There is something for everyone, bring the family.
Love the orchard. The apple cider and apple cider donuts are the best ever. Full of sugar, and warm to eat. The cider is the best anywhere. Always the fruit is the best.
This is a nice place for seasonal fruit picking with the family. There is also a small gift shop where you can purchase baked goods, fruit etc. It is a really fun destination for a weekend with the family. Parking is free.
Always come here for fress apples and remember comming here as a child and watching the little rabbits outside in the cage, now I enjoy the beatuful ride along the resorvoir my favourite place in New Britain , so very scenic and soothing.
I wasn't really impressed with one of the employees. I won't be going back anytime soon. I'll take Lewis Farms over this place any day of the week.
I love going to there store and buying fresh fruit at a great price and I like that they offer many organic products and offer really good bread. I highly recommend that if you live in Southington it is worth the 5 minutes it takes to drive up to the Orchard.
New England farm stand for apples, pears and peaches. Several varieties of corn on the cob. Also pot pies, fruit pies, bakery goods like cider donuts all fresh and delicious. Average price for farm stands, above average quality.
The fresh apple cider donuts are not to be missed. Choose your delight; sugared or plain. You won't make it to home with a warm bag.
If you like apples that are fresh and just picked this is the place, They also have fresh baked pies veggies, cider, donuts and the bunnies just like when we were kids !!!
Roger's Orchard provides a good variety of apples, good pies, a pleasant environment, and (for me) convenience. But, I no longer buy apples there since they spray them with wax.I expect that in supermarkets where the produce may not be so fresh. But, I don't expect or desire that at an orchard where teh fruit is either fresh-picked or (hopefully) close to it.If Roger's Orchards decides to cease this practice, I'd be more than happy to upgrade it to the five stars I would have formerly given it (i.e., before the waxing started).
I've loved Roger's Orchard since I was little enough to think that the rock outside the New Britain reservoir store was "huge." Now that I'm an adult, the rock seems smaller but everything else about this place just seems like there's more and more to appreciate. The apples, obviously -- oh, the apples! You can pick your own or you can get excellent firsts or seconds from the Orchard barn building by either the NB reservoir or near Southington Mountain. The seconds are my favorite for a balance of value and great taste, and I love the giant plywood board that helps remind me which kinds of apples are best for which purposes (i.e. baking, pies, eating). Apple cider is excellent, too, and the apple cider donuts are the best. But what surprised me recently about Roger's is what good quality their other food is, particularly the cheeses and the other relishes, etc. in canning jars that are located back by the apple bushels and the checkout.I've never had anything but the friendliest staff interactions, and while I've never gone apple-picking, myself, at the orchards, I have spent a few afternoons pleasantly wandering through them, and I expect that I will again.
We go here every year for applie picking. This year twice already. Pick your own at 1.30 lb, Probably the best year of apples I can remember. store is nice with a varierty of other fruits and some specialty items. $5 bucks for a 1/2 gallon of cider is a little steep though.
The orchard has been in business for eons. They grow some of the best fruits you have ever eaten. Of course, fresh is best and they pick day for freshness. Or you can pick your own. This makes for a fun day for the whole family. It is a good thing for them to see where the fruit comes from. [not the grocery store]. They make pies there also. They are delicious.
