I am doing research on my Great Great Uncle who served in the Civil War. Lots of resources and lots of nice people to help you out. Have to go back to look at more books and papers.
I visited this place with a group of friends, all students of history. This place with its collection of newspapers, directories and a host of other archives interested me a lot! It was an amazing feeling to go through some of the collection which were very old but were equally valuable. Great information on the Revolutionary War Period! Am Glad that I got a chance to visit this place, would surely like to come back again and again to visit this storehouse of information.
This place is a real treat but is almost always empty. The old newspaper clippings are a wonder to behold. I found where my Grandfather had his Paint Store & my aunt's wedding announcement.
The place to go to research early times in Connecticut, New England, or the United State. Great place to research a term paper (which I did). One of a kind books that offer information that you cannot get elsewhere. Many other facets to observe, other collections such as early coinage.
Across Capital Avenue from the State Capitol is a building housing the State Library and Archives, the State Supreme Court, and tucked away, a wonderful museum. The Colt gun display alone is worth the trip, but there is much else to see.
Resources are wonderful, hours generous. The Staff at the library are very knowledgeable and friendly!
Researchers can find a wealth of CT information. Directories, Newspapers, published Family books, Military, Church, and so much more! Staff is very helpful.
Amazing staff. Simply amazing. And the archives are beyond amazing when researching Connecticut history. If nothing else, just stop by and browse the collections, some of which are extremely old and require wearing gloves to view. Amazing for true historians, especially for the Revolutionary War period and Connecticut's role...
This is a great place to find out more. They have copies of family histories as well as books on different locals which mention early inhabitants.
If you are interested in state history or genealogy it is an awesome research facility/museum. The staff is incredible.
BEAUTIFUL space... worth at least a walk-through for aesthetic appreciation.WiFi, too!
