The old milll is being restored.. slowly... but it's worth the 5 mile drive just to see the rustic setting. I'm prejudiced because my mother was from the White family who owned the mill years ago.
On the National Registry of historical places, White's Mill was interesting to see. Included were 3 small floors of antique machinery, which still operate periodically. Renovations are still in progress. The surrounding countryside is quite picturesque. Admission is free; but open only Wed. through Sun. 10am - 5pm. Don't miss the really cute general store (across the road) with the friendliest of shopkeepers.
Arrived during hours when the sign indicated they were open but doors were locked and there was nobody on site.
Great historical landmark!! Great little day trip!!! History buffs will like a visit here! Prepare to step back in time!
My wife and I took a little side trip to see the mill. Although we were a little disappointed to find that it is not fully restored, we were pleased to learn of its history and explore the facility. The little shop across the street was charming, and the hostess was very helpful.
It was interesting but no longer functions. The little store next door was worth a few minutes. The shopkeeper wasn't very friendly.
The mill itself was interesting as a building and some of the machinery. There was no one there when we visited. It was pretty chilly inside on a cool day. We enjoyed it. The little store across the street is a bit creepy however so I'd skip that part and just stick to the mill if you are heading that direction.
This is a treasure and deserves a visit. Learn how corn and other grain was processed in the past. Take home some fresh ground flour or other product.
Loved the place till someone decided to put siding on the place and ruined the whole thing, such a shame! It is totally ruined now in my honest opinion! Thank God I got photographs before these people did this to the place! I am heart sick that someone would ruin a place like this! What were they thinking?
Enjoyed this historic venue. Still a work in progress but worth the trip to enjoy. The gift shop is a one of a kind place also.
Self guided tour through all four floors of the real thing. Anyone interested in history would appreciate this fascinating building with the inner workings exposed and labeled for simple education in the milling process. Great views for photography as well.
worth the little drive out of Abingdon to see the old mill and buy some flour or corn meal - interesting, historic
Went out to the mill on the day we left as it was supposed to be open but was not. 8 mile round trip with only reward to view exterior. Looked cute but little disappointing.
It was a very pretty drive to the mill. We could not find it at first because it has been painted white and has been restored. It takes 20 minutes or less to walk threw. The property is so pretty and great For pictures. This is free of charge so you can't bet that. Don't forget to stop by the store that is cross the street.
This is a very old mill with not much to see once you get there. The most interesting thing I saw was the very well worn wooden floor.
