just spending a day with friend are amazing at the queen hive farm its a great place to spend time..
Our visit to Chincoteague would not have been the same without Queen Hive Farm. We (two children and an adult) enjoyed the best trail ride we ever had. This is a GOOD place for horses which, to us, is the best prerequisite for pleasant and safe horseback riding. Jennifer and her team did a perfect job matching horses and riders, instructing us in a way that was easy for kids to understand and showing us through the nicest horse trail we have ever been on. What's most impressive is how Jennifer easily dealt with the challenge of two siblings with different mind sets on horses and making this ride fun for both of them. Thank you, Jennifer, for a very memorable experience!
Our second visit to this facility. Nice(clean stalls) accommodations for our horses to stay/board when visiting Chincoteague & Assateague, VaWe came down to ride the beach & stay over (6hr drive) & feel comfortable leaving our horses under the care of Jennifer & her friendly crew. Follow-up w Jennifer before you leave home re arrival & you should be good to go!!
I was so excited to have stumbled upon Queen Hive Farm on the Chincoteague.com page. This is our fourth trip to Chincoteague and while my nine year old son has taken a lesson at the Pony Farm on the island, I of course could not ride there. I grew up with horses and just introduced my son to riding last year. We've taken a few trail rides together but this was our first time on horseback this summer.I was so impressed with Queen Hive and everyone there. Jennifer was great to communicate with, texting back and forth several times--appreciated since we were at the beach with minimal cell service! We were set for a 8:30 ride and when I woke up I was devastated to realize it wasn't just cloudy out but raining! I had checked the radar (looked like it would pass around the time our ride was set) and was about to text when she messaged me and said that we could arrive at 8:30 but push our time to 9:00 to allow the rain to clear. I was so grateful! When we arrived, we received a friendly greeting from one of her helpers who introduced my son to their three cats. We were thoughtfully matched with our horses and given a brief lesson in the barn and then had an opportunity to ride a bit in the ring first. Many places seem to just send you out with very brief commands, so this speaks to their professionalism and care for their riders. We had a terrific trail ride through the woods, marred only by a steady rain toward the end. I left soaked but it was totally worth it!We had to wait a bit for my husband to pick us up and Jennifer kindly took the time to introduce my son to their many animals including a cow, baby chicks, rescued bunny, peacocks, turkey, chickens, pigeons and a miniature pony. To say my son wished he could move in was an understatement!Jennifer explained that they are getting a lot of referrals thanks to an ad on Chincoteague.com so my one caution is to call ahead of your arrival because scheduling has gotten trickier. We called Monday and were lucky to get a time for Wednesday. Next year we will be sure to call the week before just in case.Thank you for a wonderful addition to our annual vacation to Chincoteague!
Queen Hive Farm may be a hidden gem if you've never heard of them! They are just outside Chincoteague. If you're visiting Chincoteague, Assateague, or staying in New Church (Garden & Sea Inn), you may want to look into Queen Hive as a wonderful activity to complete your stay. The staff was very friendly. The staff also seemed young, and appreciative of children. They have summer camps, and I'm sure kids love them! The horses were all very friendly. THe trail was very mellow, so any level rider could enjoy it. We enjoyed our ride, and would highly recommend Queen Hive to anyone and everyone!(Side notes: there is one bathroom, we were not rushed and could have stayed for hours, wear bug spray when you go!)
My family traveled to Chincoteague for Pony Penning week and my husband and I thought it would be a good opportunity to introduce our boys to horses. The team at Queen Hive Farm let them feed hay, brush, and help tack the horses before their lesson. My 5 year old was nervous so they had a young lady walk around next to his horse the whole lesson helping him get comfortable. My 6 year old was a picture of pure happiness. By the end of his first lesson he was trotting without help, taking his horse through an obstacle course, etc. We could not have asked for more, especially given we were not local and therefore repeat business.
Jennifer is awesome! I live only 3 miles from her Farm and I'm a single parent. My daughter lives in Missouri and I get her for the summer when school is out. She will be going to the horse camp this summer and Jennifer is so accomdating. Her staff is real good with kidsand I feel completly safe when my daughter is on Jennifer's farm.We rode horses during Easter weekend and had a blast. It was a little chilly and Jennifer even took off her own jacket and let my 8 year old daughter wear it while on the ride. She practice safety and showed us everything we needed to ride the horse. I highly recommend her and her farm to any parent looking to take their kids horse riding!Steve
Jennifer could not have been nicer and better able to match a horse for each of us. My husband and my 2 kids aged 4 & 6 spent a morning in June 2009 with Jennifer. First in the ring, and later out on the trail. The horses for my kids were always on a lead, and I was quite confident in their temperament. My husband also got a mini-lesson in cantering! overall it was a wonderful way to round out a week of camping on Assateague.
