We happen to go for the first time here, for the Halloween season, since their coupon looked great and sounded like fun, what a disappointment. It was dusty and the they had quite a display of pumpkins for sale and gords also flowers...The worst part was the barn with things to sell. The lighting was so poor you couldn't even see the labels and read them. It was dark and smelly, dismal They had Christmas stuff for sale that looked like leftovers from a basement and dusty packages. Food for sale was hot dogs fries and coffee and oh apple cider, not clean at all. They advertise hayrides but its to go pick pumpkins $20 all you can carry...how many pumpkins can 1 person carry for $20. It was cheaper to buy what was on the table. I got 3 nice size pumpkins for $15. We left..
First, we haven't come to the pumpkins and hayrides. But if you used to enjoy strawberry picking -- that's in the past according to the sales staff. For us, this was the place to come for the best supply of plants, ground cover herbs, etc. We looked forward to visiting as it was a bustling, rambling series of buildings and plants. Great ponds, koi, Etc. Always fun. our visit last year yielded some good results, but the sales person talked us into buying two lilacs that were said to bloom all year. Wrong. They died and never bloomed. Last year we did realize it wasn't as busy and the selection had declined. Today it was even worse. Nothing we were looking for, but we managed to make do with what we could find. The sales staff were nice, if unknowledgeable. Even the lone koi we saw seemed sad and depressed. Don't think we'll be back.
We never miss a year going to the Ashland Berry Farm to pick strawberries in early summer and pumpkins in the fall. They also have a huge greenhouse with plants for your garden...take home a little memory of the farm and plant it in your yard!
Disappointing. We took our 8 and 10 year old girls here last weekend. We are new to the area and looking for pumpkins and fall fun. We didn't find fun here. There was a long line for wagon rides to pick your own pumpkin, but it took us a long while to find out just what the line was for. Chaos and unfriendliness ruled. The signs were not helpful - how is "Fort Pumpkin" a corn maze? I had to talk to a lot of the employees to find out just what was what and what was going on; signage was nonexistent. The employees seemed unhappy to be there, and I certainly wouldn't call the place family friendly. We had mediocre hotdogs and were bombarded by bees. The biggest downside, in my opinion, was the lack of indoor restrooms. The only option was port-a-potties in the parking lot. They were relatively clean, but still, the opposite of fun with young kids. We stayed less than an hour and will never go back.
My husband, his parents, my daughter (16 months), my brother, his wife and two daughters (5 yrs. and 2 yrs.) went here yesterday. I think everyone else in the county did also! It was very crowded. Thankfully, the line for the hay ride moved along pretty well. We got there at about 3:15 and were on the hay ride by 4. The day was so gorgeous that we didn't mind standing around. There were plenty of port-o-potties if you had to use the bathroom while waiting. You definitely don't want to wear something really nice. You're going to get dirty because it's really dusty. My niece (the 2 yr old) didn't want to leave the pumpkin patch. Once you're done picking out your pumpkins, you take the hay ride back to the start and pay for your pumpkins. I wish they had a posting of the prices of their pumpkins ahead of time. The only reason I knew the pricing was from word-of-mouth from friends. But, once you're off the hay ride, employees are there to price your pumpkins and for you to pay. Pricing seemed to range from $2-$10 each pumpkin or if you can hold all your pumpkins and take 3 steps, then you only pay $20 for all of them. They sold Christmas decorations in a Christmas shop, donuts and other foods.
I went to Ashland Berry Farm's Haunted Event last year, and it sent chills down my spine when I saw the people in the horrifying costumes, and the gruesome looking buildings. What really had me spooked was the Boogar Woods because even though it wasn't entirely scary you were dropped off in the middle of the woods in pitch black darkness, and you don't know what to expect. Something could just come jumping out at you any second. The only thing that I was impatient with was the lines that were pretty long, but other than that I thought it was one of the best experiences of my life. I'm definitely going to the Ashland Berry Farm this year for their hayride and scary woods haunting. Oh, and also afterwards when we would head back to the location as to where we started there would be chainsaw murders that would chase you for the majority of the hayride. It was a lot of fun!
This is a great place to find pond equipment. If you are looking to do a Koi pond or any other type of man-made pond, this is the place for you! Great prices, selections, fish selections, plants, and other necessities. Location is easy, right of the interstate. I am looking forward to this month when they do pumpkins and haunted hay rides!
They have a great program going on for Halloween. Plus they have good prices on fresh fruit you can get there or pick your own.
This is my very first "haunted hayride" of any kind and I must say I had a blast! There were ten people in my part, ALL FAMILY, five girls five guys. What you need to understand is that my family consists of tall men, when I say these 6'5" men were screaming like girls that would be an understatement. It wasn't that it was very scary and don't get me wrong I'm not saying that it wasn't scary, what I'm saying is what really gets you is the fear of the unknown. Once they put you out in the woods you don't know what to expect. All I have to say is RRRUUUUNNNN! Make sure you have on clothes that you don't mind getting dirty or even dispose of.I have to say this is probably one of my most memorable vacation/attractions in my entire life. We had so much fun we've all agreed to do it every year for Halloween.
My family and I went on October 23. The staff was surly, the lines were VERY LONG and the prices were outrageous. One older couple was scolded for walking down the hill from the pumpkin fields rather than taking the dirty, overcrowded "hay ride" -- a rickety wagon with a half-inch of straw pulled by a very poorly maintained, smoky tractor. We live in nearby Henrico County, and will never make the trip again.
They funnel you in through one lone line to get to the hayride and have people there to direct the crowd as you board but on one is directing the crowds when you go to leave the field with your pumpkins hence chaos as everyone tries to get off the wagon while those from the field scramble to get on at the same time. Ashland Berry Farm need to have more employees to direct the crowd instead of one person standing around doing nothing. We will not go here again.
Ive lived in and around hanover most of my life and evry year at least once I've visited the Ashland Berry Farm on Old Ridge road. Most people around here do.You can pick strawberries and take a hay ride or cook your own hot dog over a fire for lunch. In the fall you pick pumpkins and go for a hay ride only this time it's haunted. There are always alot of plants and crafts to buy. It's a local tradition for a reason... fun
