At first I was a little taken back that the tasting room and whole experience was and would be in someone's home. But the great setting of the tasting room and wonderful wines quickly made me forget that. Will a fireplace, fire pits and ample out door seating, We are very excited to come back in the summer. Unlike some of the other winery's in the area this one is much more of an experience.
This is a recent winery, which in fact doesn't even make their own wine yet. But the wine maker who is making it for them is doing a great job, as we thought the wine was very good. The tasting room is a little odd, being in the basement of the owners house, but once you're inside (don't worry, you enter from an outside patio, not through the house), its a very large and nice tasting room. The outside patio and lawn area is also very nice. It's worth a stop on your next wine tour.
As we were driving on Rt7, looking for wineries we came across a newly posted sign advising 612 Vineyard was nearby and since we had not even heard of it, we decided to give it a try.The lady who owns/runs the tasting room in the basement of her home was very friendly and accommodating. There were several others there, tasting and enjoys the beautiful views from yard and outside seating. The white wines were mediocre with the reds being more palatable. We were more than happy that we stopped in and learned about her new venture, which she just opened this past March and we bought a bottle of something red we liked that we look forward to enjoying soon!Definitely add this one to your list of vineyards to visit, if nothing else, for the seclusion and friendliness.
This winery is fairly new and will admit that their wines are not coming from their own grapes yet, but that didn't prevent us from having some of the best wines we have had from local vineyards. I had read about 612 in the paper and was impressed with the story of the woman who decided to start this venture with her children. She admits that they are all learning the business, but they must be fast learners because the atmosphere is wonderful -- remote, quiet with wonderful views and birds flocking to the many feeders around the outdoor sitting area, the wine and cheese tray were so good, and the son who entertained us with his guitar and singing was delightful. We live quite close, and this is a vineyard that I will look forward to sharing with guests, but for those further away, I would recommend you add it to your exploration of northern Virginia wineries.
For a Saturday afternoon we were amazed that we were the only family in the tasting room. Your loss and our gain. The tasting room easily has room for dozens of people and is beautifully appointed. Outside there is abundant seating with a great view.As for the wines, the ten wines that are available for tasting are amazingly well crafted for such a new winery. My wife and I will usually find one wine that we enjoy and will buy a bottle to take home. We walked back to our car carrying half of a case. One of the owners greeted us when we arrived and poured our tasting. Every wine was presented with a prepared tasting note and a personal thought on each one. What an amazing winery. We are both very excited to come back and see what the future holds for 612.
My husband and I have visited a lot of Virginia wineries and will typically buy about 1-3 bottles of wine after tastings. We liked ALL of their wines and ended up buying 6 bottles because we couldn't choose only three to take home. The views are amazing and very romantic, though we did bring our daughter with us. Highly recommend! The wine stood out as a favorite for us out of all of the wineries in that area.... and there are a lot of wineries!
On a recent trip to visit our daughter and as a vacation we visited several Northern Virginia wineries and this was one of them. We had the privilege of being served by the owner for our tastings. She made us feel at home and made our visit very pleasurable. The wine is really good, well balanced and enjoyable. I particullarly liked the reds including a port style red. If your in the area do yourself a favor and stop in as this was one of the best ones on our trip. They haven't been around long but if they keep producing a great product they will be around for a very long time. Thanks 612.
This is a new winery in the Northern Virginia area with a great atmosphere. The tasting room (which is in the basement of a private home) is a little dark but has a lot of room at of standing room at the bar and plenty of nearby seating. The patio area is very nice with a great view of the surrounding area. Most of the wines we tried were from Cave Ridge (where the wine maker works) which is why I'm rating this place "average". Hopefully they will slowly start to incorporate more 612 branded wines over time. I feel like this place has great potential! The gravel driveway doesn't have a lot of room for a passing car, so hopefully no one is coming from the opposite direction!
We were spending the weekend in Berryville, VA, a charming town just outside of Winchester. We got to town too early to check in at our B&B so we went to 612 Vineyard for a wine tasting. Friday afternoon is a great time to go because there is no crowd. We met Lisa, the owner, who poured our tasting. She was fun and knowledgeable. We did not realize that the Vineyard had just opened a month ago and the tasting room was large and very nicely decorated. We enjoyed it and Lisa gave us recommendations for other winery.
Finally a vineyard in close proximity of WV with great wines. Found this new vineyard out on a Sunday drive. Great staff, very friendly. They had their soft opening last weekend and should be up and running by April. Our favorites were the Chambourcin and Fossil Hill Reserve. They also had a chilled red Mount Jackson Rouge that was pretty tasty. They also offer a port wine which is pretty rare at VA vineyards. Very welcoming inside and outside area, plenty of seating. We look forward to visiting this vineyard again and tasting great wines. Pull up a chair and relax. :)
