It's a fairly good sized park with many available activities. We host a 5K fun run there every fall. The Par 3 golf course is very well maintained, and good for a quick outing, when a conventional round would take too long. Between the picnic pavilions, hiking and running trails, boat dock and open fields, there's something for everyone.
I live off of this park so I run it several times a week. It has a nice part paved, mainly dirt/gravel trail around the lake. Several pavilions for rent and other summer activities. But, most of that is relatively removed from the lake trail that is very nice to jog around. It can get busy on nice spring/summer/fall weekend days but in the winter or during the week you can find times that you almost own the 4.6 mile trail that circles the lake.
They have a nice disc golf course the only problem is that walking trails somewhat intermingle with the course. Worth going for a round many other amenities I just go for the disc golf.
Burke Lake Park has lots of things to do and it's one of the nicest facilities around. Very nice mini golf course.
I frequently go on walks there with my boyfriend or family and enjoy it every time. They have little workout spots along the way which really add up and help you get a full workout. If it rained recently make sure you've got good shoes for it because the place will get pretty muddy.
Burke Lake Park is a great place to go to get away from the chaos of northern Virginia. Take a walk in the woods along the lake, enjoy a picnic or play Friday sober golf. A great get away close to home.
Burke Lake Park is conveniently located in Fairfax/Burke. There are so many activities to choose from: golf, mini-golf, playgrounds, boating, frisbee golf, campgrounds, and fishing to name a few. Toddlers will enjoy the train, carousel and ice cream shop. My favorite has to be the 4.5 mile walking trail around the lake. We walk it year round. The views of the lake, community atmosphere, and just being outdoors make it so much more enjoyable than a treadmill workout!
Kids love the train and the mini golf. Beware that mini golf is staffed by teens and hence not always tidy. Not a huge deal. This park is a great area for enjoying nature and some family fun.
Year-round: fishing, boating (rentals available), driving range, 18-hole par-3 golf course (with pro shop and lessons), Frisbee golf, several playgrounds and covered picnic areas, 4.5 mile trail through the woods around the lake (a few ups and down but pretty flat - great for running, walking, biking, dog walks, or baby strollers -- horses are allowed on a portion but have never seen one)(it's used for county high school cross country meets in the fall), fitness course, large grassy areas for informal soccer matches or putting down a blanket and reading in the sun. Every day during summer (and weekends in late spring and early fall): putt-putt golf, merry-go-round, train, ice cream parlor.I've probably forgotten something but, as you can see, there's lots to do for varied tastes. The park is very well maintained and, except for some weekends and holiday (especially in the summer) not too crowded. It is free for Fairfax County residents and $10/car on weekends for non-residents.
When we moved to Fairfax, little did we know of this precious gem in our midst. We have enjoyed this park often and highly recommend it to regulars and visitors! - Of course if you come from outside Fairfax county there is a small fee - per car...well worth it...There is the Lake - large and with much room to explore...plus paddle boats, regular boats (small) and canoes with which to do so...great way to pass an afternoon...There is a Sundae shop straight out of the past...with cheerful workers to scoop out the latest flavors. There is the train, and the carousel - to ride...kids and parents will love them both. Myself I am particularly fond of the train ride which winds its way through the park - Then - you can picnic...many places to do so - some close to the water...and with swing sets and other activities (frizbee golf no less) around to entertain...All in all I and my family and now my grandson have enjoyed this park through the years...one of the great joys and benefits of Fairfax County...if you haven't been there...please go...you will come away with a happy experience...!
This park is just filled with fun things to do for everyone. You can go to the park and fish. You can walk/run/bike the 5mile trail around the lake. You can go to the driving range and hit a bucket of balls, or if you feel up for it, play the 18 hole par 3 course which is very well maintained. They also have a Frisbee golf course set up for those interested in giving it a try. Burke Lake has a few playgrounds around for the kids to play on. In the summer months, it also offers carousel rides and a train/trolley ride around the park which are both great fun. In October, the train becomes the Haunted Trail ride which is also very fun. Down at the marina inside Burke Lake, you can launch your own small boat or rent a jon boat from them for a small fee, I think it's $20? The park opens every day at sunset, about 6am, and closes at sunset, about 6pm. So if one day isn't enough, you can rent a camp space at their well maintained campground for about $10 per night. Sometimes, there is a fee for non Fairfax county residents, but I believe that's only in the summer months, and even then its only on the weekends. The other months and the weekdays are free entry. All in all, I absolutely love this park and I visit it every week doing one thing or another and I've yet to get bored.
It is about a 5 mile hike around the lake with mostly shade. Trail is well used by walker, joggers and bikers. There are several playgrounds for children and picnic areas. A boat dock that also rents boats and has snacks. During the warmer months there is miniature golf, a merry go round, small train and an ice cream shop that also has other snacks. On the weekends during peak times they charge non Fairfax County residents a fee.
Ride your bike, jog or walk around the lake. A little golf (par 3, driving range or putt putt), lots of outdoor space and the lake to enjoy. Can get a little crowded on those nice weekends.
A month ago I went to Burke lake park. Burke lake is very good for fishing. If you have a kid under 7 you should really go on the train. There is also a mini golf corse. There is a play ground with 4 slides in it. They also have a ice cream store that you should not miss with lots of flavors.
Burke lake is a great place to hike, bicycle or run the 4.5 mile track that circles the lake. In the summer the carousel and railway are open for rides. There is a camping area, boating, fishing, volleyball and many large rentable picnic stands. Lesser well known is the path from the dam that leads up to Mercer lake, which can add another 5 miles or so to the hiking/running/cycling loop. Unfortunately there have been a number of car break-ins (including broken car windows) lately. Just locking the car in not enough, make sure all valuables are left out of sight. Free for Fairfax residents, $10 per car for out-of-towners.
