I was visiting my fiance (who lives in Chantilly) and one afternoon, we had a few hours to kill, so we decided to drop by here. It was really interesting and cool to see all these historical firearms. The info provided was also very thorough. I'm not a huge fan of guns, but I thought it was pretty interesting, because I do love history. My fiance, on the other hand, LOVES firearms and weaponry and so he obviously had a ball. I believe there is no fee for the attraction (or at least we didn't have to pay when we went) and you can take pictures. HOWEVER, they let you know that if you want to post photos online, you must first contact the NRA to ask for permission. I think you can get in trouble if you just go posting pictures, without the NRA's permission.

This is the place to go. The collection is extensive, the displays are interesting and well presented. There are items there that are interesting but not so special and others that are one-of-a-kind. It's not so huge that you'll need walking shoes. If anything, the museum could use more interactive displays. The gift shop across the lobby (this is the NRA headquarters) has a good collection of books and souvenir items. Don't forget the NRA range in the basement. It's one of the few 50 yard indoor ranges open to the public. No membership needed.

We were in the area and decided to go because it's free. None in our group are gun enthusiasts but we can appreciate the variety and artistry of firearms. We were all extremely impressed by the collection. We spent about an hour and a half there and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. It really is great, even for non gun lovers.

See the history of the firearm from handcannons to the modern weapons, both civilian and military in this well laid out liberals nightmare..

The collection of firearms is incredible. The most amazing thing was all of my kids, who had shown zero interest in firearms to date, were enthralled with the collection. They actually spent time reading the display cards. My kids were dragging me around the museum, and I was the one who finally had to end our visit.

This is a really good museum if you are into firearms, particularly American firearms. Goes back to the revolutionary period. Lots of beautiful 19th and early 20th century pistols and rifles that were "presentation" items and truly works of art in their own right.

This is a self guided museum. Lots of things to see. There is plenty to read. Wish that they had tours as it may be a little more interesting. There are some really good and neat guns to see. The kids enjoyed it

Every time my dad comes to visit, he wants to go here. If you like guns, the history of guns, and how guns played a role in making our history, this place is a must see. There are so many things to see and read. The best part is, its free!

Well, you can't beat the price - It's free! They must have examples of every kind of firearm that was ever made. I'd like to see more about how different innovations functioned, say the development of a trigger (hands-on models?), and determining and combining parameters such as barrel twist to ammunition.

I've lived near this museum for years but never visited because I'm not a big gun fan. What a mistake! This free museum is very interesting and the information is well presented. Great use of dioramas to help tell the history of shooting galleries, gun making and more. If you are with someone who loves guns and you finish with the museum before that person there are comfy leather chairs and free wifi.

Another free museum , no fees at all , guns & history , what a great combo . A lot more here than I thought , allow at least 2+ hours . Easy access , but more geared towards adults .

We went because we wanted to see their exhibits of how guns fit into the American historical experience. This museum did a very nice job of explaining that, with displays of the guns involved in each step of the journey. Mayflower journey - they've got a gun for that. Desert Storm - yep. Civil War - of course. The last stop on the journey is a fun and extensive collection of guns that "starred" in movies. Well worth the visit and it was free!

The National Firearms Museum has an excellent collection of guns on display that should interest gun enthusiasts. Admission is free and it is easy to find. Well worth a visit.

Very well put together museum. After you are finished touring the museum, you will feel more knowledgeable about the history of firearms!
