Unbelievably interesting collection, housed inside an old schoolhouse. Beautifully and professionally showcased items representing civil war soldiers and their lives. All locally discovered, this place is a treasure! The best civil war collection I have ever seen! And the collector is on site!

The building looks small from the outside but the look is deceiving. A great collection of Civil War memorabilia from the local area. Tons of bottles, bullets and buckles. The owner is a nice man who will gladly speak to you. Very impressive collection, also show you the troops lived in huts during the war.

Huge collection of artifacts. What I enjoyed most was the display of soldiers camp, both inside and outside the museum. We were the only ones there except for the handyman so no one was there who could tell us stories but the displays were well marked. Great value for the cost of admission.

One of the best museum in the Stafford county area. Love the cannon and the huts. The people that where running it at the time i was there was very knowledgeable on all artifacts.

My ten year old boys are huge civil war fans. However being typical boys they care mostly about weapons and the soldiers who used them. This was the perfect museum for them. There was tons of artifacts. The soldier’s camp was fantastic. They could easily imagine the life of a solider after walking through it. I’ve taken them to many civil war museums and by far this was their favorite. I’ve been to many battle fields, museums and read a few books on the civil war but I still learned several new things. The men who run the museum have a passion and love for the history of the area. There great to talk to. If your looking for an in depth look at the politics of the times and battle strategy etc. this is not the museum for you. However, if you want to learn more about the common civil war soldier this is a great museum.

I've been to the museum many, many times, and it is one of my favorite places. It is in an old schoolhouse and you must meet D.P. Newton, the owner, and get his stories about the artifacts and the surrounding area.

The Museum was closed that day, but I would definitely drive back to walk through the museum - my sons enjoyed being outside at the displays that were on the grounds

We were visiting Fredericksburg where two of my ancestors fought for the Union Army in the Civil War. Happened across this museum after checking out a local magazine. Not only do they have an amazing collection of artifacts, but the guys are incredibly knowledgeable about the area and it's history. I mentioned the NJ 26th Volunteers and they provided info on the types of weapons the unit used, stories about a rivalry with the 2nd Vermont (involves eating dog - yikes!), and drew a map so my son and I could drive to the location of the winter encampment. The collection of artifacts and documents (and knowledge) is far better than that found at any of the NPS sites. Highly recommend!

An amazing collection of artifacts. Friendly, knowledgable volunteers take the time to walk with you and explain what you are seeing. Well worth the visit!

I have visited this museum several times. I believe it is the best privately owned civil war museum I have ever been to. The curator has a wonderful knowledge of the area. Die-hard civil war buffs will love it.

My favorite aspect of this museum is that it is the personal collection of a citizen of Fredericksburg/Stafford. He and his family walk around the museum and personally share moving stories of the collection - a collection for which they take great pride! Well worth the visit for the small-town feel with a huge collection - I was surprised - pleasantly so!

If you're interested in seeing hundreds of bullets upon bullets, than this is your place. Otherwise, the other artifacts and the description of the artifacts aren't worth the visit unless you are an extreme die-hard civil war buff.

White Oak Civil War Museum is a wonderful small museum. It houses thousands of Civil War artifacts and photographs. Its curator is from the local area and has a great depth of knowledge on the war in general, and particularly how the war was waged in the local area. Wonderful place for the whole family to visit, even if you're not a huge Civil War buff. Even if walking around the battlefields isn't your thing (it's not mine), you will probably enjoy this museum.

I had driven by this almost daily. Our family visited with our son's Cub Scout Den. It is an interesting collection of local history.

The exhibits are terrific. But the museum's owner, D.P. Newton, is the true star of this small museum. He has family roots in Stafford County going back well over 300 years and is a true expert on the momentous events that occurred in the County during the Civil War. The extent of his collection, as well as the depth and detail of his knowledge about the events that occurred in Stafford and neighboring counties during the War, is truly amazing! The White Oak Civil War Museum and Mr. Newton are true jewels. There's something here for everyone, from the serious Civil War researcher to grandparents on a road trip with teenagers in tow!
