Lions and tigers and Bears!! And Everything from reptiles to aviary's! A great place to take the family for fun and learning! The owner started her non profit organization to he'll raise awareness about rescued wild animals and to help take care of them! Very knowledgeable! Highly recommended!
Amazon recommend Bear Path Acres to me and we decided to take a Sunday afternoon to make the trip from Norfolk to Franklin (about an hour drive). We had a wonderful time seeing all the animals and my daughter was given apples to feed a couple of animals. We really enjoyed seeing the new baby white tiger and the lions. I would recommend everyone to visit this place at lease once. It was a treat.
This little secret, in the middle of nowhere, is well worth the travel. The venue is an old civil war house with lots of land behind it which is surrounded by a large privacy fence. The house needs some work but with all the animals in the backyard, I suspect there isn't much time for housekeeping. Bear Path Acres hosts at least 35 different species of animals and there are multiples of most types. Miss Debbie greeted us as we entered the gate. She's been rescuing animals for over (30) years. Each animal has a story if you are interested in knowing why they are there. It is a self guided tour and you are encouraged to feed anything that you can touch, which there are many. Of course, the lions, tiger and bear are securely caged behind a double fenced area so they are off limits. These animals are truly loved and you can be assured of that by their behavior. The turtles came running, actually crawling, when we approached the area. They crawled to the fence and we fed them carrots. Miss Debbie has fresh fruit and vegetables for $3 so plan to purchase a bucket when you get there. Winston, the pig, roams freely. He knows how to sit on command! Isaac, the monkey, loves to be talked to. He is especially enamored by children and will smile at them when they arrive. He smiles when they laugh as if he knew the joke too! We bought our tickets on LivingSocial and it turned out to be better than the Washington Zoo as we were able to interact with the animals and were able to really get close to those that were not within reach. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys animals and wants a fun day-trip. Picnic tables are available for a packed lunch too, so you can really make it a perfect getaway for just a few dollars.
