Upon pulling up, we instantly noticed the view of the patina'd copper sided tasting room, all the copper was pretty impressive and added a nice look!Walking in, we noticed Vina, the human-sized "lady corkscrew" who welcomes guests, as well as the various tile mosaics, like the huge pineapple in the floor at the front door. The tasting bar area is beautiful, but off to the other side is the actual glass house with tropical foliage and a nice temperature, with low humidity... nice enough to sit in and enjoy their nice wines. The staff at the tasting bar were friendly and explained the wines and chocolates nicely.Looking out of the rear doors is a deck to stand on and view the beautiful mountain side lake and peaks of nearby mountain ranges, as well as various picnic tables and other areas to sit outside.Overall, this is one of the nicest decorated and beautiful vineyards we've visited in VA. We definitely look forward to coming back, especially since they offered wines that are very nicely done.
I went to the Glass House Winery on Valentine's Day with two knowledgeable friends who are in the wine industry. They had been to Glass House many times and recommended it highly. They didn't steer me wrong. What a fun, fun afternoon. We had to wait about 10 minutes before a space opened up at the tasting bar, but once we found a spot, the young woman who led us through the selections was focused totally on us. It was as if we were the only people there. The wines are varied, and as with most tastings, build upon each other as you work your way down the list. A treat with Glass House is that they make their own chocolates and you get a sample with the last wine on the menu. After tasting everything they had to offer, we made our selection, took our bottle and glasses, and made our way into the glass house to a warm, cozy table under the banana trees. Dogbert, the resident canine moocher, followed us to our table and sat with silent pleading eyes. My friends were in the know and had brought a selection of cheese and crackers to nibble on as we sipped our wine, chatting and looking out over the large pond with a dock surrounded by seating. If the day hadn't been so horribly frigid, I would have enjoyed strolling by the water. After a while, we finished our bottle, packed up our snacks, and headed home. I am a huge fan of Glass House now and will be stopping by again,
Went to this winery on Valentine's Day on the advice of someone we met at Trump's winery. This is a very cute tasting room and unique grounds complete with sculptures and pottery. The servers were so nice; they explained all their wines. Very nice red blends. They paired the dessert wine with dark chocolate, and it was delicious. There is a glass porch that you can take your glass of wine to and relax. On the day we were there, they had a food truck there serving sliders and other sandwiches. Very nice experience with great customer service.
I visited in August 2014 on a night that they had live jazz. What a fun vibe. We really should have brought our own snacks and cheese; what they had was expensive but very yummy. I believe the owner makes the gourmet chocolate and they were quite delicious with the wine.
This beautiful vineyard has a glassed in eating/tasting area that makes you feel like you're in a tropical paradise. The upper tasting room bar opens to a large deck overlooking a lake area with picnic tables and a floating dock. Okay so it's beautiful (first hurdle in a tasting room) but how is the wine? Let me just tell you that if you can taste their Moglio del Sesso and not close your eyes in amazement, you're a better person than I! It's actually infused with their own home made chocolate. Killer good! We not only bought a glass to enjoy there but also purchased a bottle to take home - along with a box of the made on premises chocolates! And I am actually NOT a dessert wine person. Only less than awesome comment: this winery also has the tendency of some nearby ones we visited - such small "tastes" that I felt like I wasn't really getting the true feel for the wine. That being said, they do ask if you'd like to re taste but we were there on a Saturday and it was very crowded, people waiting behind us, so we didn't take that option. Would I go back? Yes!
we read the positive reviews and thought we'd give it a try, but we didn't expect the gorgeous setting. The house is a little unassuming and has a bit of frank Lloyd wright to it and the conservatory is just that. And add the lake in back and beautiful day and it couldn't get better. The wines are solid across the board and the chocolate is special. Go enjoy
Beautiful winery. Went on a busy day and there was quite a wait for the tasting. The only negative was that we were not acknowledged when we came in. I understand a wait, but would appreciate a quick "we will be with you in a moment" as a recognition that we are there. That being said, the tasting was good.
I like the greenhouse, but I'd say the wine is over priced. The experience was pretty good. The view is pretty good and the greenhouse is unique.
Beautiful winery with a nice lake, dock, greenhouse and deck. Great wines and delicious (expensive) chocolates. We were greeted so warmly and had a fabulous tasting. Can't wait to return.
Enjoyable afternoons for tasting with a platform overlooking the pond and vineyard. The 7 wines were mostly good to very good. There is an evening concert in the attached greenhouse sitting area. Very worthwhile visit
We enjoyed our visit! First time I have liked all the wines given in a tasting and the chocolate is beyond words!
The beautiful garden and conservatory are your first greeting to Glass House, as well as the wine-makers Australian Shepherd who is very friendly! The conservatory is lovely, with plenty of lush green tropical plants. I plan to come back in the winter and enjoy the illusion of summer! There is also a great porch for sitting outside. The wines are good, and my favorite was definitely the Barbera, especially since it's a less-common Virginia varietal. They taste their port-style wine with the chocolates that the owner's wife makes, which is a really delicious combination. The salted caramel and earl gray chocolates were fantastic! There is a nice view of a pond, and they allow you to bring your own picnic which is a plus, though they have boxes of crackers and cheeses for sale.
A lovely winery and so unique with it's glass house and tropical plants. Wonderful wine and chocolate. A must-see for the area!
A lovely winery -- nice tasting room with beautiful views off the deck. Live music and a pizza food truck on the Friday evening that we visited.
Glass House offers a fantastic venue for meeting up with friends and offers excellent indoor and outdoor areas to enjoy a glass of wine with friends. I don't love the wine, but the chocolates are amazing and they encourage you to bring your own picnic to enjoy wherever you like. The elevated porch has a fantastic view, there are several picnic tables by the pond to enjoy and Sunday afternoon entertainment in the greenhouse is fantastic!
