Go! You will not be dissapointed (unless peehaps the place is simply overwhelmed by too many people!)Beautiful classic french or italian countryside setting with classic french style wines. The staff is very knowledgeable (one or both owners frequently being behind the serving station) and are extremely friendly and appreciative of their customers. Great views of Skyline Drive.
A little gem of a winery tucked along the hillside in Northern Virginia. The setting was picturesque but the wines were a great surprise. It's a small family run operation that will only improve with age. Enjoyed our time there and look forward to going back.
We very much enjoyed our stop here. Clean, efficient and well run. The lady who helped us with our tasting was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed learning about their wines and pairings. It seems they cater to people who want to enjoy wine and learn, not just drink and move on to the next stop. Will be back!
We randomly stopped at this winery on the way to Luray Caverns and we are glad we did. The property is very beautiful and their wines were great. We tastes 4 wines and we loved their white wine. The provide the backyard for sipping the wine and enjoy the mountain view. We packed the lunch and really enjoy our visit.
The wines at GMV are very good. They focus only on making good wine and it shows. The bonus on a visit is the view from the back deck of the vineyard on the side of the mountain next door. A site to be seen for sure. The owner was unbelievably friendly, and enjoyed telling us the story of the farm, and all about the wines. A "must stop" if you're in this area.
This is by far, the best sampling of wines that we have tasted in Virginia. We frequent wineries almost every weekend and this winery left an impression on us that will be far to beat. The T. Ruth red was fantastic.
We had a wonderful tasting at Glen Manor, a family owned vineyard where the owners clearly love making wine. They only bottle their own grapes and they explain their process as you taste the wines. You can bring a picnic and relax in their beautiful lawn overlooking the grape vines on the hills. And, most important, their wine is excellent. I'm not a huge fan of Virginia wines, but Glen Manor is an exception - they compete with the best of California wines.
While out doing some vineyard visits we decided to give this one a try, since we heard good things from friends about it... Oh Boy we were glad we did! From the moment we pulled into the driveway we could tell it was special and not like many of the other wineries who don't put as much care and attention into their grounds. They have a beautiful entry way, driveway and the landscaping is incredible! Not sure if Kelly (her and her hubby own/run the place) does all the landscaping on her own, but she was doing some on the day we went. And even though she had other things going on, she spent a ton of time chatting with all the guests and explaining the entire history of the vineyard and her husband's family's ownership of the land and how the wines got their names. She also went into explaining how they all spend time each day protecting the grapes on the vines in various ways to ensure the best possible grape to turn into wine. That care and devotion to a perfect product extends into the wines they sell. They only had four available on the day we went and we instantly loved two of them. Prices are slightly more than other vineyards, but not too much higher and when you hear the entire story, you quickly understand why and are glad to help support this beautiful, local VA vineyard! The grounds are GORGOUES with views up the hills of their 200+ acres of land you can see up to the vineyards, on the sides of big hills, all the way up to Skyline Drive at the top of the mountain, which looks incredible from below! They offer plenty of outdoor seating, all with views facing these beautiful hills and they also have some limited indoor seating as well as a nice sized bar to hang out, sip and enjoy the conversation.Instead of crackers, Kelly makes INCREDIBLE homemade focaccia everyday which is cut into bite-sized pieces and put into bowls for the customers to clear their palates in between sips. The bread alone tastes INCREDIBLE! We were happy that she decided to share the recipe. She could and should sell this stuff! We look forward to coming back and bringing friends for another round! Maybe once the leaves start changing!
Great wine maker, great wines. There special events are worth the drive. Simple tasting room but the wines more than make up ffor it.
What a wonderful stay we had in Glen Manor vineyards 9 days ago. We loved the site. The Shenandoah Valley is a must see area for caravaners like us. Kelly's suggestion for camping in the Shenandoah River Park (Raymond Jr. Guest...) was excellent. We wish we could have stayed much longer but we needed to get back home on last saturday. We are more than delighted with the few bottles we brought back home from this magnificient Front Royal vineyards. The taste and the flavors are exceptionnal, even at 700 miles apart from it.We opened one of our 2 rosé (Morales) last Friday evening: Oh wow, the BEST Rosé we ever had in our mouths ! We can't wait to open the other sélections...Owner Jeff White is a master of his art. We will recommend to all our friends to stop by and shop for Glen Manor wines. And Kelly, his lovely wife, is a master of hosting visitors. Passion and friendlinessshe has expressed during our tasting venue made a remarkable impression for the last portion of our stay in Virginia. This place is really for lovers: of wine, of good taste and of great surroundings. Virginia is trully for lovers.Vive Shenandoah Valley.Vive Glen Manor.Longue vie à Kelly and Jeff !
They are very hospitable, we felt very welcomed right away. It truly felt like we were at a friend's house tasting. The wife does the tastings and is so passionate about the wine and about her husband's hard work, it is obvious that they really care about their wine and want to share that enthusiasm with others. Their passion really shows through their wine! With mentioning the great service, I don't want to take away from their wines being great. They have a little something for everyone!
I may not know everything there is to know about wine, and that is part of the reason that I love wineries, but I know passion when I see it.My wife and I took an afternoon off together and decided to try a winery near her work. Glen Manor was close on the map so we headed out on a very scenic drive in the valley. The driveway brought us up a hill to the tasting room. We were greeted promptly by a very charismatic woman behind the counter and invited to join a couple who had arrived shortly before us. When I mentioned passion earlier, I absolutely mean it in every sense of the experience. Our tasting was an education on the history of the vineyard, family history, history of the production of wine in the region, and a personal touch of why each wine was presented as it was. I learned more about the wine making process that day then in the year prior. This husband and wife team, who seems to integrate every person into their family, draws you in with hospitality then treats you to an amazing vision of what wine should be. The wines were amazing from beginning to end. The winemaker's technique for presenting an unaltered flavor of each grape is something that we had never seen. After our tasting, we enjoyed a glass of wine outside in the plentiful seating throughout the yard. With spectacular views of the vineyard on the slopes in front of us, and a pleasant breeze at our backs it would have been easy to let the rest of our day slip away.Amazingly done all the way around.
We visited this on our final day in Luray and, to be brutally honest, we didn't have hugely high expectations. We'd done Napa and the Loire valley, so wasn't convinced Virginia wine would compare. I am very pleased that we were proven wrong! We went mid-week and it was one of the few in the area which was open and didn't need to make an appointment. Prior to going we had read that Jeff the owner had just been awarded wine grower of the year in Virginia (or something along those lines...) so we're very curious as to what we would find. We arrived just very early in the day and were the only people in the tasting room. Kelly spent a long time chatting to us, giving lots of history even down to how all the wines got their names. It gave the winery a very personal feel and was absolutely fascinating. We shared a tasting but absolutely fell in love with their rosé wine, so bought a bottle to drink on their terrace. And a few to pack in our suitcase. What a stunning view! Looking up at the skyline drive, which was still in cloud cover and also at all their vines and land. It truly is a magical place and it would have been very easy to while away the day here. We didn't know we could bring a picnic, so if you are visiting if highly recommend it
Kelly made our stop worth every penny. Her passion for sharing Glen Manor is contagious. It is not just about the wines or the grapes, but the people who have gone before to help Jeff create magnificent wines. The views from the tasting room draw you outside to relax in the beauty of the property. Well worth your time!!! Thank you Kelly for sharing the history of the family and the land!
Glen manor is one of the few wineries in the area that allow you to bring your own picnic. We went on valentines day 2014, The owner of our bed and breakfast had packed us an amazing picnic lunch so we went to glen manor to have some wine. We did a tasting then bought a bottle of their white dessert wine. We didn't love their top of the line red ( I cannot remember the name) but the white dessert wine was great. The views were so beautiful as well. You are in the valley right below skyline drive so it is a different vantage point than the typical skyline car views. Overall it is a cute small winery with gorgeous views and middle of the road wines but in the spring summer they do have outdoor seating so we are looking forward to going back.
