St George is a local Hampton brewery who produces a quality product. Since they're only 3 miles outside the gate of Langley, we thought we'd run over and take their (free) tour. What a mistake. The tour was given by William, who's apparently the owners son. As far as we could tell, that's the only reason he has this job. He told us a few times during the tour that he gets paid to drink. I believe it, as he seemed to be well in by the time we took the 1 o'clock tour. He kept repeating himself, drifting off into non sequiturs, and failing to complete thoughts. He started the tour by telling us that everything we knew about beer was a lie, everything we knew about history was a lie, and if we were offended by anything he said we should read a book. What a solipsistic, self-aggrandizing, goober.I thought the point of a brewery was to learn something about how that particular brewmeister produced their brew and entice me to consume said brew, but apparently I was wrong. Other than a few basic points about brewing, we spent most of the tour being pimped on obscure historical facts. He would ask the tour group a question, then stand there with a self-important look on his face, waiting for an answer like an overbearing college prof.We ended up breaking away from the tour a little over half-way through, and making our way back over to their "tap area". They did offer an excellent selection of the brewery's wares, though they're offered at barroom prices.Overall, this tour wasn't even worth the free price-tag. And if they're goal was to turn us into customers, they had the opposite affect. Every time I see a St. George's label now, I'll wonder if I'm really smart enough to consume their beer.
