If not from the area a little off the path. The layout is very nice and the wines are their own flavor. I really enjoyed the tasting. The staff was very friendly I went right when they opened but could see the place being packed. The ones are a great medium body. Didn't try the good.
The server was personable and wines decent. Purchased a Chardonnay and a red blend. This is a good addition to a day of wine touring.
After visiting dozens of Virginia wineries this summer we are very impressed with Lost Creek. The reds are simply amazing. The new owners are very polite and know a thing or two about hosting guest. They have a wonderful staff who are very personable and trained. Lost Creek is one of the best we have discovered on our Virginia winery hunt! Great pick up parties if you decide to become members and after trying their wines I'm sure you will.
This is the perfect place to spend an autumn afternoon. Offering samples of both red and white wines, there is seating outdoors as well as inside. Calendar of special events can be found on their website.
We stopped in and were very happy we did. The wines are nice and atmosphere is tranquil. Made for a great stop along the wine trail. The gal staffing the bar for tastings when we were there was awesome. Very personable, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to!!
very good wine and location. solid all around. nice location and nice atmosphere. i will return to this place again.
We decided to check out this location as a possible wedding venue. We were skeptical at first because of reviews we read about horrible tasting wines. This was the first stop so my palate would be freshest. What a pleasant surprise! The wines were good not bad. I think this place has been under new management for over a year. I ended up buying a bottle of the Chardonnay. I enjoy dry, crisp wines which seems to be more the specialty as opposed to sweet wines from the past. The staff was friendly, there was even a four legged pal (a cat) that wandered in. Apparently he had lived there before and didn't get the memo regarding his new landlord! We had a great experience. I would definitely recommend going and need to go as we didn't spend a great deal of time there. Although this would be a beautiful location for a wedding, it won't work for us, we decided to go with a venue closer to DC, however this place gets very good marks, I hope they can maintain the upswing.
I visited Lost Creek and Hidden Brook (within a short walking distance) seven years ago and liked the atmosphere, but didn't care for the wine; however, now under new management, the wine is much improved. Chardonnay is my least favorite wine, but Lost Creek's Chardonnay is one I love! Light, crisp, smooth and steel barrel aged, which makes it gluten free. Yeah! I liked all 5 wines I tried: Vidal blanc (slightly dry and effervescent), serenity (sweet white), a blend and a Merlot (old vine taste) all very good and different. I took my glass of wine, along with my picnic lunch out to their covered patio with iron tables and chairs, sat and listend to the guitar player sing a variety of tunes. Then took a short nap on the lawn. Consider bringing a stadium seat cushion or blanket to sit on, because the iron chair can be uncomfortable after a while. There are also picnic tables/benches with umbrellas, as well as a patio with additional seating that leads into the tasting room. Ample parking available. A nice lazy Sunday afternoon.
I remember going to this winery several years ago and disliked it. At the time, both this winery and the winery next door (Hiddenbrook) had super sweet wines--it reminded me of the wines you would find in the fingerlakes. Needless to say I didn't go back until a friend who's wine opinion I trust said they took on a new vintner and the wines had improved. I decided to take the trip out and my friend was right--the wines had drastically improved. I believed I liked most, if not all of the wines. My friend is getting married there this year, and i'm really excited to go back!
We thoroughly enjoyed the 90 minutes we spent on a Monday morning. Adam (tasting manager) was fantastic! Personable and outgoing, he gave us great information about each wine. Mentioned the specials they were having on the wines, as well as the "Black Friday" wine event they were having. Perfect for us as we were visiting relatives and many of them love wine! Very pleasant atmosphere. Our only regret: we went in the fall. I'm sure it's much prettier in the spring/summer and if are back in VA at that time, this will be a definite stop for us!! Wines are excellent and reasonable for the quality. Also - tasting fee was incredibly reasonable for the number of wines sampled.
We visited for a wine tasting last weekend. We understand the winery is under new ownership. We loved the wines. The wine from the prior owners is too sweet for my taste but would make a good sangria The people were very knowledgeable about the wines and down to earth. Not as pretentious as other local wineries. The vine covered patio and outdoor fire pit were inviting. We're going to bring our lunch and sit outside with a bottle of wine! There are lots of picnic tables as well. Very nice setting. We plan to come back often.
We went to a wedding at the Lost Creek vineyards and had a fabulous time. The setting for the ceremony was really nice. The outdoor patio is a perfect addition for the cocktail hour. Wines were very nice - better than expected. Staff was terrific and food was really, really good. The room and outdoor patio provided more than enough space for everyone to dine and party. Thoroughly enjoyed the wedding and give the venue 5 stars.
We had a fabulous time at the Crab Feast (also chicken, corn, cole slaw, etc) last Saturday evening 5-9 PM. The new Reserve Chardonnay was wonderful!
