This is a great place to let your troubles slip away. Bring the kids and let them tube for an hour, while you take in the scenery. Miles and miles of moutains and sky await your gaze as your kids shriek with delight tubing down the slopes. There are numerous mountain bike and hiking trails, too. Something for everyone! Walk up to the monogram and take in an amazing sunset.
We were on a visit to Liberty University and checked out the Snowflex Center. It looks like so much fun, and I look forward to returning when we have time to participate.
We live about 45 miles away and were looking for a fun Saturday afternoon activity. This was great for about a couple of hours of tubing. Luckily we used a Groupon, otherwise it would have been too expensive. There were not that many people there but the lines were long and moved slowly. The ski slope had no one on it.
I love coming to snow flex every now and then over the offseason! There is definitely a learning curve to skiing on synthetic snow. There are also more snowboarders than skiers there, and a great portion of the slope is covered in jumps and rails. Never the less, it is always a fun experience, and the rates are much cheaper than those at any normal ski resort. Even if you have been skiing for a while, I would recommend that you try the beginner slope to get a feel for the turf. It takes some getting used to!
Great views of the Appalachians, and some good displays of snowboarding. If you want to go on the slope, be sure you have a long sleeve shirt or jacket and some sturdy pants.
The Liberty Mountain Snowlfex Centre at Liberty University in Lynchburg is a fun, exciting, and unusual outdoor adventure activity! If you love skiing or snowboarding, even snow tubing, any time of year, the Snowflex Centre is great in the off-season. There are only a few such centers in the U.S., but the technology is improving and they are growing in popularity in Europe, U.S., and elsewhere. The snowflex surface is synthetic, and when wet, it can simulate a surface for skiing and boarding. You use the same equipment, but no need to wear all the heavy clothes. Helmets and long sleeves and long pants are recommended. if you fall, you may scrape unprotected limbs, and of course, we all want to guard against head injury. Visit Youtube for examples of what it looks like in action.Tjps for a better experience: It can be very hot during the day in the summer, and you need long pants and long sleeves, although you do not need a coat and snowpants. Try a cloudy day, or better yet, night-time skiing and boardng. Rental skis, boots, boards, etc. are available. The surface acts a little differently than snow, so do take advantage of at least a brief lesson to learn how to maneuver on this new, different, way-cool surface. If you fall, it is harder than falling on real snow...please be careful. If you have access to real snow in-season, go for that. When snow is not available, this is a terrific alternative!
