After visiting Chatham Winery many times for their oyster roasts and tastings, we decided to serve their steel fermented Chardonnay as our house wine for guests visiting our house on the Bay. Everyone loves it and it's local. Don't miss the oyster roasts or Grateful Dead events.

We toured the winery courtesy of SouthEast Expeditions, via kayak. Great small winery, good wines. Lots of fruit flies this time of year, but that's normal for small, rural wineries.

Excellent wine, excellent prices and excellent scenery make this place a winery to visit if you like wine. No gimmicks, no flash, no over the top tasting rooms, just delicious wine from $14 to $22 a bottle (tastings are $3 and do not include getting the glass which can be purchase for $4). The winery itself is at the end of a well maintained dirt and gravel road in the midst of cultivated fields. The grapes are grown onsite. There is seating outside to enjoy a bottle and take in the silence and natural beauty. The wine is definitely head and shoulders above most other Virginia wines I have had and the only one that I have bought cases of. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and Jon Wehner, the vintner, has always been willing to talk and answer questions. They also have delicious cheese and gourmet crackers available for purchase, or you can just bring your own food to enjoy. Do not come here expecting a showy tasting venue which drives up the cost of the wine, come here to enjoy a simple, refreshing, relaxing time where you can breathe in the fresh air and sip some delicious wine. You can feel the heart and soul that has gone into this place and especially the wine. Definitely give it a try!

On our visit to the eastern shore just happened to see this sign on Rt 13 going south from ocean city to virginia beach. Absolutely recommend it. While I agree with the other "wine snobs" that this may not be the best wine around - it definitely is better than some of the over oxidized wine I've had at other wine tastings (including Napa!). Janice /Janis was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the wines - process, etc and even gave us a small impromptu tour of the place. Wilbur the dog was a cutie too ;) The grounds are neat and while not necessarily picturesque definitely nice enough to sit outside and have a drink.

Stopped in here on a trip to Chincoteague Island. The staff was very helpful and nice, as were the other customers in the tasting room with us at the time. They gave us lots of great tips on the local area and could not have been friendlier! The wines were average (I'm from CA, so I'm a wine snob, sorry!) but enjoyable enough.

We love to stop here, they make good wines and are keen to share them with you at their generous tasting facility. You are warmly welcomed and allowed to taste all their wines to decide what you might enjoy the most. The entire operation has a family feel and yet a decidedly European touch to the wines. Their un oaked Chard is luscious. Try them when you are on the Eastern Shore!

This is a very well established & wonderful winery. It is on the grounds of a handsome, historic home. The tasting facility is state of the art and the owners and folks who greet you are very knowledgeable and courteous.

I liked the non-oaked Chardonnay at about $17. A solid choice, if not slightly over priced. But the wines went up in price from there. Also, new policy of $3 per taster, for only a few (small) samples. Would be better if not charged if taster made a purchase. Merlot was nice as well. Well maintained dirt road access.

We enjoyed the wine, and found the employee knowledgeable and entertaining. The wine had a great taste, and the grounds were well manicured and a beautiful view.

My husband and I visited Chatham Vineyards last year and had a most amazing time and so we were really excited about our return visit. It was a glorious Fall afternoon and we were looking forward to sitting outside with a glass of wine and then bringing some bottles home with us. Unfortunately this time was so very different. We walked into the tasting room where a party of three were having a tasting – an employee and, I think the vintner, were having a conversation away from the tasting area and neither of them acknowledged us. After some minutes the employee did say “I’ll be with you shortly” but disappeared again. Absolutely no welcome and not a word about which wines were being tasted that afternoon. We waited again until she came back and this time were told “I’ll be with you shortly, I’m in the middle of a tasting” and she then promptly proceeded to chat to the other party and refill their glasses, ignoring us completely. The only person who seemed pleased to see us there was Wilbur the dog. We have been to tastings in vineyards in Europe, South Africa and California and never have I been in a tasting room that could only cope with one tasting group at a time. We walked out and we shall not return.

My wife and I enjoy wine tastings and visit vineyards a few times a year. While Chatham's tasting room is not as pretty as others we have visited, we were able to interact with the owners and experienced a friendly employee introducing the wine. While the wine was enjoyable, the graciousness of the people made the trip special. The fact that the tasting was free really set Chatham apart from other vineyards. If you are on the Eastern Shore, and like wine tastings, Chatham is a must stop. The only knock is that the stately home featured in the marketing material is not where you taste the wine.

New facility and a good product! People are friendly and will stop and chat! A nice place where you set the pace of the tasting!

My girlfriend and I stopped here during our trip to the Eastern Shore, and it was definitely worth it. When we arrived, the tasting room was bustling with people tasting wines and those preparing to do the winery's combo kayaking and wine trip along the river. We each liked every wine we tried, and that's not typical. It's not that we're very knowledgeable about wine - we just don't prefer sweet wines, which usually rules out many whites for us. Everything at Chatham, however, was enjoyable, even the rose and the ice wine. After the free tasting, more generous than at some vineyards that charge, we bought a bottle and sat outside. There are lots of chairs around the building and a couple of fire pits and tables. The one thing that cost this vineyard the final rating star is the outdoor atmosphere - it's quite generic: mowed lawn and concrete patio. After sitting outside for about an hour enjoying the chardonnay, we each bought a red and a white. I definitely recommend stopping here. Next time we're back, we might bring friends and try the kayak/wine option, which seemed quite popular.
