My golfing buddies and I played Jackson's Chase three times this past year. It can be a bit of a challenge but is a good playable course. I enjoy playing this course as much as or more than the other three courses we play in Front Royal. As seniors we usually play from the forward tees and are able to improve our scores as well as our pace of play (to the extent anyone ahead of us is playing). We last played in the middle of December and thought the course was in decent shape for that time of year. We did not use them but I noticed a number of carts lined up with cold weather coverings on them (the day was nice enough, we did not need them). Have seen a few carts on courses using the cover but not a whole line of them.As seniors, the rates at Jackson's Chase are reasonable and if you have the Tee Time booklet, you can play one time for $15 and four times for $20 (Monday through Friday).
Great potential with a good layout but maintenance is lacking.Every tee box was either patchy or completely bare , most traps have been allowed to grow over and some of the greens had large holes (burrowing animals?)in them.Very reasonably prices however.
Took my father and grandfather out to play 18 today and the course was horrible. The grass needs mowed the tee boxes were worn out and hard, the greens looked like they had animals digging in them and the sand traps had no sand, just rocks. This course has potential to a beautiful place to play. Very disappointed. We will not be going back for a very long time.
After a recent round of greens fee reductions, might be the best value among the nearby courses. It is also two different courses, depending on whether you play from the whites or golds. It still presents a challenge from either, with a premium on accuracy, but a few holes are now reachable from the gold tees. Lot of elevation changes and side hill lies await a slightly off target shot. Many of the bunkers are in transition from sand to grass and currently offer a free lift. Not heavily played and you can usually walk up and go off. Look online for even lower rates. Not heavily played and you can usually walk up and go off. Currently the fairways are in good shape; roughs are dry and errant shots will really run! Greens were aerated the day I played, but weren't too bumpy. Tend to be fast and some have a lot of break.Snack bar is limited, no beverage cart. Does offer order call in from the ninth tee.
This course can be as challenging as you want to make it based on the tees you are playing. My wife an I play together so I play the gold tees and she plays the reds. The course plays way to long for me to enjoy playing the whites or blues, however a low handicapper would love those tees.some of the red tee boxes look like they were an afterthought and a few are burnt up from lack of water. The fairways are pretty wide and decently cared for .the greens were just aerated but it didn't seem to affect putting.booking online is a steal at 18 dollars for 18 holes with cart.we will go back
Went as a part of a foursome! Was greeted by Concierge/Pro Shop Manager/Starter/....Understaffed. No water coolers on the course. Affected game with no water.Course bunkers are under maintenance. The course has seen better days.Cheap for a Sunday morning tee time with cart but the course is full of hazards and really challenging Par -3's with valleys and other tee boxes and fariways have really tall grass. Will await someone telling me it has improved before I go back there.
Played mid-April round. Course is in very good shape. Not the longest but still plenty of challenging holes and decisions. Greens were good speed, wind was there but not too much. Fairways and rough were in very nice condition. Club house was nice. Pace of play was excellent compared to some of the suburban courses. I think I made it out and back faster than playing at some of my local courses, a little under an hour from Fairfax. Low Price more than made up for the drive.
Nice layout. Greens can be very hard and really fast. Price is right. Conditions can vary depending on the weather. If you're looking for a different course to play this is a decent choice. Similar to Bowling Green in Front Royal.
My wife and I recently played the course this past week and found the course to be in good shape. The club house is currently being rennovated which should make for a nice venue. The cost I believe was $26/$28 which the course is well worth. Not the longest course but does have some tricky holes. Well worth the visit.
