I stopped by with a friend and enjoyed a great tasting. The tastings are done in the South African style, so that the wines are paired two at a time and allow for a proper comparison. I thought the tasting was one of the better ones that I've had and was very well prices. Plus, our server was quite generous in sharing each taste :)While we didn't order from their menu, some folks at tables near us did and the food looked great! Next time I would definitely plan on that. Also, they do a tasting pairing with food one weekend a month. That would be worth going out of the way for, and i'm guessing that information is available about that on their websites. My friend and I had visited several wineries that day. We both felt that Vintage Ridge was among the nicest ascetically, offering a beautiful tasting area, barrel room, and outdoor seating. I'm guessing that it would be amazing in the fall with the views.
Pros: Drive and views, tasting room, tasting experience, friendly staff, good wines, outdoor seating, eventsCons: No tour, restaurant/daily food dishes/snacksI drove out the Delaplane area in search for a new winery and to take a nice drive in a great area of Virginia. I noticed I was near Vintage Ridge and took a few country roads to the entrance of the winery. The drive from the road to the winery is lined with fields of grass and the vineyard, a beautiful but short drive I almost wished lasted a bit longer. I arrived to the winery and tasting room, as I walked in, I was welcomed by several people and greeted with smiling faces. As I took a look around, I was greeted by Ryan (A Great person to experience the tasting with), who offered to do a tasting at one of the tables sitting down or at the tasting area standing, which I'll say is great and new concept after having to stand at tasting table after tasting table...however I opted for the tasting table as I had been sitting for awhile during the drive. As mentioned in other reviews, they continued to do the two wines at a time tasting. Something unique and not experienced at another winery. They start you out with their sweeter wine and rose', then go through the list of some reds, pairing a Merlot with a Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot..etc. Lastly you end with their Late Harvest and Summer Night, both which are good wines and I enjoyed. I decided to also have a glass of their Cabernet Franc and relax in their barrel room, which had a dimmed lighting and soft music. The building isn't as large as some wineries in the area but comfortable for some larger groups. Multiple tables throughout, with a setting outside in the tasting room and one behind the tasting table in a nice relaxing barrel room. They also have an outside area, sadly it was much too cold to relax outside. One thing I did not experience and want to go back to this winery for are the events. They had an event coming up pairing food using a local catering which had some delicious sounding food. Ryan said they would be doing other events in the future. Ryan also stated they would be offering future tasting platters or trays with different items to pair with their wines.Overall, I definitely enjoyed this winery and would recommend it to those searching for a unique and relaxing experience, friendly staff, and good wines. The service was excellent, Ryan and the rest of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The overall atmosphere was great for those wanting to relax and sip on wine or for those looking to have a gathering of friends and family.
This was a pleasant experience in mid-September. They have a unique "two wines at a time" tasting option where you compare two excellent wines with a great selection of meats a cheeses. The server did a great job of setting our expectations with each pairing and we decided to join their monthly club. They also have a super outdoor area with comfortable chairs and fire pits for taking the chill off the cool fall afternoons.
A small group of us went for a visit on a Saturday, based on the recommendation of another local wine manager. We were actually kind of disappointed. The setting is great, but the service was a bit odd.Although there are two wine bars, we were shuttled to a picnic table on the upper balcony.Service came to us - nice touch, but in between "rounds" our crowd carried on and got distracted - so when our server would re-appear and try to re-gain our attention. Yeah - that wasn't working...They also close at 5pm, but didn't tell us until after we finished our tasting; and were about ready to order. Too bad, as we were ready to get a bottle or two and enjoy the venue's patio.Their wine is decent and we bought a bottle of Petit Verdot, to have something from our venture. but at $40+ a bottle, I can think of a dozen other Va wines that I would have rather bought. A bit pricey... for NoVA.Service: Weird, but friendlyWines: DecentVenue: Very beautiful and rustic
This is one of my favorite wineries. I'm not overly fond of the wines, given that most of them are reds and I'm a white drinker, but I love the atmosphere, the service, the food pairings and the beautiful outdoor seating area. Best time to go is in the Fall. Also, if you go on a Saturday, either go early or later in the afternoon. Last time I went we got there at 3.00 pm and the place was packed with a bridal shower group (which marred the atmosphere a little), but it calmed down later. Be aware that they close on time, so don't get stuck being the guest that outstays their welcome!
After a disappointing tasting down the road, I was looking forward to visiting Vintage Ridge. I have been there once before and loved the food and wine pairings. It was my friends first time at the vineyard, so they were excited. We received excellent service from the owner & wine staff. We had a great afternoon. The Ghost Train was the best wine. Don't miss it!!
We visited Vintage Ridge Winery on Saturday and had a great time! We did a tasting of their 7 wines and ended up purchasing 3 bottles. The service was great at this winery (we had been to another earlier in the day and had felt very rushed). The servers here gave you plenty of time to try each wine and to give you more details than what was already on the menu.It was a bit cold for us, but there is a great outdoor area to sit in when the weather is warmer!
This small winery was by far the best one of our wine tasting daytrip, the staff was knowledgable, friendly and engaging. We went on the first weekend of the month and enjoyed the food pairings with thier Premiere wines, a great time and everything was perfect! Would definetly come here again and bring friends (again). LOVED the spiced pecans, brought home two boxes and a white wine that I look forward to sharing!
Having the advantage of living in the middle of the Virginia wine country and having tried numerous wineries, while they all have their distinctive personalities, Vintage Ridge is my go to Winery...it's not stuffy, but by the same token it's sophisticated and you can escape there. You feel like the owners are serious about their wine, it's delightful to sit outside and do a food pairing, not just saddle up to a bar and not enjoy the the beautiful VA countryside! My husband and I are such fans that we got married there in September and it was perfect!!
Located less than 10 minutes off 17- Maidstone Road is a good road (easier than getting to Naked Mountain), and the gravel drive up to the property is fine as well (easier grade than getting up to Barrel Oak). There are pub tables inside, and a porch with a southern exposure. The wines are good- we just did a standard tasting, but a premium tasting with food is also offered. I liked how two pours are offered at a time, while the host / hostess discusses the characteristics of each. I thought well enough of the wine to buy a bottle, too.
Loved the small pub tables in the tasting room! Great experience and great wines!
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary by going wine tasting along the Fauquier County Wine Trail. This was the second of three wineries that we visited and it was my favorite. It is a small winery off the beaten trail a bit. However, they were worth the drive. For their basic tasting they offered six tasting for $6. They include Maiden Voyage, Merlot, Cab. Franc, Syrah, Summer Night, and Dragon Dance Syrah Rose. They offer premier tastings on the first weekend on the month (pair their wines with food samples). It was very quiet when we arrived and we were offered a choice of tasting standing at the bar or seated at a table. We opted for the slower seated at a table experience as this was something new to us. I am so glad we did! We really enjoyed the tasting in a slower, relaxed fashion. I was disappointed that we were not visiting on the weekend for their premier tasting as that sounded fabulous. However, they offer food to be served out on the balcony with a glass of wine. But even better - they were so nice and so accommodating that they let us purchase their party platter and eat in indoors while during the tasting. I do not think this is their usual policy but they were so nice and accommodating to us, they earned fans for life. Both my husband and I really liked their Maiden Voyage 2010. It was a mix of both white and red grapes but appeared white in color. It was so unusual and so distinct that we ended up buying three bottles of it. It pairs fabulously with spicy food - particularly their spiced pecans (ended up buying two packs of those!) We had already tried the Maiden Voyage before we ordered the party platter (filled with some great spicy samples - Spicy Peach Chutney and goat cheese - yum!) but the pourer nicely gave us each other taste of it once the food was brought. I can't say enough about how welcoming and accommodating they were at this winery. I fully expected to be told no when we asked for these exceptions, but they were so pleasant and offered FANTASTIC customer service. We stayed a couple of hours tasting and enjoying our party platter. It was a lovely afternoon and we really liked this small place. We ended up buying three bottles of Maiden Voyage, 2 spicy pecans, and a spicy peach chutney.I highly recommend them and we will definitely be back. They have huge fans in us.
In addtion to the beautiful winery, they give you a nice plate of different food pairings and suggestions that really help with appreciating the wines.
Beautiful scenery, incredible patio, wonderful wine. Don't let the $18 premier tasting price scare you away... the wines are phenomenal, full bodied and flavorful, and the premier tasting includes a tray of food to pair with and compliment each.We were incredibly impressed with everything. It was a relaxing, refreshing end to the day. Perfect date spot!
Vintage Ridge is a short drive from DC and a great way to spend a day in the country with good wine. We went for a friend's birthday on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The proprietors and staff couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. They gave us samples of newly harvested juice at various stages of fermentation and showed us the wine process. It's more work than I imagined...But their wines, especially the reds, are very solid and paired with a great fruits and cheeses. The cab franc and the merlot were particularly good. We also got some party platters that had a huge selection of chutneys and crackers and cheeses. Beautiful location, beautiful views- if they had a guest house I would stay for the night. Easy commute, very reasonable, nice people... a wonderful day out of DC that is good for the mind and soul.
