Met up with family and friends to catch Groova Scape's show. Bruno's Food Truck was on hand playing music to the crowd outside socializing around firepits and comfortable seating. Inside the brewery were warehouse vats, tables and self-service fast, efficient counter service. Good times had by all!
This is a brewery with a great logo, cool Virginia-centric name reference, and great graphics so I had high expectations.A tough thing is that this brewery is OUT OF THE WAY, making it very difficult to find even with a smart phone. Still, we were determined (and since our real destination that day was the Blue Apron Restaurant in Salem — read my glowing review of it), and were already in the area, we eventually found it.This brewery interior is like a large tin warehouse, industrial but not in the charming sense. A nice band was playing old timey and bluegrass type music and that was nice. At about 4 on a Saturday the place was packed. You can see all the brew equipment, which is separated by an up cycled palette fence, not by glass walls or anything.I got the IPA which was conveniently not a high APV which I like. It was very tasty. I also paid $4 extra for a fundraiser glass that supports wilderness programs or something. Very cool glass. My hubby is the brewer so he got the flight. Too bad flights always want to include a Porter or Stout — not everyone's cup of tea. He called the beer good, saying it was "very drinkable."Outside was a Thai food truck which in all honestly had some of the best Thai food I've had in Virginia EVER and I could really stand for that food truck to come up to one of Staunton's breweries sometime. Wish I knew the name of the place — it was really stunning food. We had the chicken soup and veg and pork egg rolls respectively. As far as the brewery goes, I really wish that picnic tables hadn't gotten so intimately bound up with breweries — they're starting to get on my nerves. Ditto plastic tables and chairs. Even a set of eclectic tables and chairs (mismatched) and painted in various colors would be better just to add some atmosphere. We had a pleasant time, it's clearly popular with the locals, and it's "fine" overall but if it was me, I'd bump up the aesthetics a little bit and maybe shift the tasting room to a more in-town location while keeping the brewery itself out there in the boonies.
Parkway is a very family friendly "meeting" spot that not only serves beer, but has food trucks occasionally and live music. Seating inside or out, the beers are very good and the atmosphere is always welcoming.
Tried the Ravens Roost Baltic Porter at a craft beer festival last year and it is now my favorite beer. My wife and I had a week alone and this was the #1 to do thing while the kids were away. The brewery is not much to look at, but the beer is great. I'm not a fan of IPAs, so the dubbel and the porter got second servings after the sample flight. Definitely will return when there is music and/or food truck.
I picked up a six pack of Parkway's Bridge Builder on a whim at a local store that carries VA craft beer. My husband and I enjoyed their beer so much we wanted to visit the brewery. After a trip to Asheville, we planned our itinerary to stop at Parkway Brewing on the way home - we were not disappointed. While there we also discovered their tasty Kolsch Majestic Mullet which isn't available in our area. They have a great outdoor area with picnic tables, games and a family friendly atmosphere. The very talented Nikki Talley was performing outside which was an added bonus, along with a great food truck from Bruno's Gastro Pub. We met some great people, enjoyed great beer and took a case home. Worth the trip!
This place is a great place to hang out an enjoy an evening with friends! Great beers, plenty of indoor seating and always a band and good truck with space outside!
The beers here are good. The tasting room is ok - plenty of space to sit or recline. But cold inside! We would return.
Stopped in to check out the brewery on way home of trip. A band and a food truck and a surprisingly large crowd made for a fun evening. This is apparently a very popular place. They are well known for their Get Bent IPA, I tried the kolsch and it was fantastic. Fire pit outdoors with seating/tables and corn hole. If you are driving up I-81this is definitely worth a quick stop in!
Great new brewery. Lots of different beer. Good music and a mobile food truck that adds to the experience.
You're probably going to drive by it the first time you go. From the outside, it doesn't look like a place you'd want to go. But it's worth it. A real gem in lil' ol' Salem.
A wonderful experience to visit a small craft brewery, and taste some very good crft beer. The guys that run this place will explain the hows and whats that it takes to make their beer, and even give a tour. Many times there is live music and food and tables set up in the brew house.A great experience in Salem.
Parkway is a great little brewery. Not only is their beer delicious but they also frequently have food trucks and live music there. Of all the breweries we've visited, this one definitely tops our lists as far as the vibe goes. Families will often stop by with kids in tow, and there is even a small section of wall that has been covered with chalkboard paint for the kids to doodle on (yes, there is chalk there too).
These guys have a great selection of tasty beer. Their Get Bent Mountain IPA is one of my favorites. Most of the time their great beer offering is accompanied by a food truck and music. Go have a pint and bring your empty growler for a fill up. Thanks to Parkway for bringing your talent to Salem VA!
