We came here the other day and had a great time walking through. It is really neat to see the way that the boats are displayed. It definitely makes you stop and think about river transportation and how important the James River has been and still is to the community. Besides the history, it is a beautiful spot to sit and have a snack, let kids run around, etc. I definitely recommend checking it out if you are in the area!
Canal Basin Square is an Outdoor Transportation History Park, on the site of the old James River and Kanawha Canal Turning Basin, located at 249 Main Street in the charming and quaint river town of historic Scottsville, Virginia. It is the site of the Scottsville Batteau Festival, held every June, with live music, food vendors, artisans, and crafters. This picturesque park is the perfect stop to enjoy an afternoon of strolling the park, seeing all of the displays, and learning more about the history of America's Founding River.
