Been here a few times with just me and my wife, but my parents came in town in July so we planned an evening for all of us along with my brother & his wife.Absolutely love the service there. The bartenders are always nice & interactive. And, there's always a good variety of wine selections for the tastings. The only thing I don't care for is the dining.... I feel like the food is overpriced & a bit pretentious. If you're going to a winery, though, I suppose that's what you might expect anyway. All the same, everyone had a good time.
I have gone here for years every time I visit from Houston, Tx. This time the guy who facilitated the tasting, Johnny, he was very informative and friendly. I learned things I had never heard of before. Potomac Point is the only vineyard I've been to where I like EVERY single wine!! Great place to visit!
This is the second year we've gone to the winery for New Year's Eve. This year was a Studio 54 theme, and it was a lot of fun. Most of the attendee's dressed up in an impressive variety of outfits. The food was excellent and of course they always have a great wine selection. I would definitely recommend a visit.
Been to many wineries. This is so so. Wine is not so great but place is nice. To be fair had a corporate lunch here and food was avverage at best. Will return and try again and see if i can give you a better review..
A friend took me here for my birthday and lunch--what a surprise to find such a nice place in the countryside of Stafford. The winetasting was really revealing of some fine wines being made in Virginia- we followed with a delightful lunch of soup and salad and dessert--all well made with an attentive staff- It would be a fun place to spend all day as some were doing in the lovely dining room-they have a buyers club that includes frequent tastings and good discounts--they made two new members that day!!
We live close to this winery and visit wineries weekly, but tend to drive to other areas (from Nelson to Loudon, heavy on Fauquier) because we like to get away from the "Northern VA weekend winery crowds" and those who go with large groups, thinking the wineries want that much business all at once, and those who go to simply pay the basic tasting fee, taste and leave. We always go with the intent of giving all their wines a try, listening to how they make them, learning their wine-making process and more about their winery and buying a bottle to sit and sip and if we like it, then buy more to take home. This particular winery seems to be able to accommodate both with more emphasis on the Northern VA crowds. Their tasting fee is typical for the Northern VA area, $10, but they do offer a LOT of wines to taste with grapes from many areas in VA, as well as Spain and Italy, which was a treat. The server we got when we sat with our group and enjoyed their food and wine was great. He was attentive, personable and always smiling. The lady who gave us the tasting was very friendly. The check-out clerk at the front was horrible. She seems rushed and didn't provide very good service to us nor anyone else we witnessed her helping. Be nice if any of the other staff could check out customers, rather than having the bottle neck up front, where people are also entering and also trying to pay for tastings, upon entering.Overall the experience was nice, but we prefer a more laid back atmosphere. We've been to wineries that are often VERY busy, like Delaplane Cellars who do a GREAT job managing the surge in customers and still provide exceptional service all the way around. We prefer to stick with those, as we also feel they concentrate on wine and not having a venue to attract crowds and having weddings and events.Oh, not allowing outside food is a bad policy too! Fortunately this wasn't a problem for us, as we didn't bring any. But many winery patrons do and should be able to.
Potomac Point Winery is hidden away off the beaten path just south of Quantico Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA. This Tuscan style building and vineyard were created in a clearing carved out of a hardwood forest so it is surrounded by mature hardwood trees. A beautiful setting and very popular. The wines are respectable and comparably priced to other local wineries. Their dinner menu changes periodically and on our last visit we found that they had gone to tapas style entrees. The food was good and we enjoyed ourselves. On previous visits the summer weather was pleasant and we sat at tables in the outdoor courtyard where there is often live music and people can also bring their dogs. On our most recent visit, it happened to be a rainy evening so we had to eat indoors in the pub where we had not eaten before. The pub is just that, a pub for enjoying tapas and beverages. That said, the seating is not particularly suited for the typical dinner style eating we were expecting. We were seated in overstuffed couches and our plates were set on a low coffee table so it was not dinning experience we wanted to show our out of town guests. If you want a sit down dinner, wait until you can assure you will be able to eat in the outdoor courtyard.
I reserved the Wine Cave for a private tour/tasting event for 30 people. The atmosphere was lovely, our guide/server was informative and nice, and the food tasty. I look forward to doing the same type of event again in the future.
Really great winery. The staff has always been friendly, courteous, & professional. They offer various types of tastings & the wine is wonderful; sure to please a variety of palates. They do offer stainless barreled wines (my preference) & there are a couple of different wine clubs available as well. The scenery is beautiful and food is very good. As with most Virginia wineries, they are a little more expensive than the larger conglomerates, but worth the extra money. They have recently started offering flavored olive oils; standards like rosemary flavored & a wonderful blood orange flavor, which are both fabulous!
Good food paired with their wines, the staff can be helpful. I recommend as an appetizer the cheese plate.
Great wine tasting experience with Bill. He was very knowledgable about the winery and its wines. He was very proud of being part of the Pottomack family of wines and because of his enthusiasm we wanted to beome club members. We have been all over the world doing wine tasting and are members of many wineries but our surprise this winery is the first one and only one we know of that charges $49 per membership. Because of that charge we decided not to become members but we're ready to purchase about $500 in wines to be shipped to California, however when we approached Rachel the cashier (who was in the phone when we approached her) and gave her the list of wines we wanted, she asked what do u want me to do with this? Do you expect me to get these wines? We said yes please and she turn around wih an attitude and started mumbling while picking up the wines. We decided not to take the wines since her attitude continued getting worse. Our friends who live in Virginia recommended 2 wineries for us to visit Breaux and Pottomack, sorry to say, we are not coming back or recommending this wines to any of our colleagues.
While visiting friends who live in Fredericksburg, we decided to do the wine tasting and have lunch at their restaurant. Excellent value for the tasting...bottles were more expensive than we expected. Lunch was very good, and the person providing the tastings was very knowledgeable. I would do the tasting again, but it would be nice if they had something other than stale crackers to "cleanse" the palate.
We gave Potomac Point a second chance after a not-so-great visit a few years back. We were there a few years after they opened, and were surprised by their "no outside food" rule. We had brought a picnic and wanted to enjoy it with some of their wine in the courtyard. We said we'd buy some of their food to go with it, but we were turned away and told we could eat and drink at the pavilion at the bottom of the hill. Add in the fact that they didn't give us 10% off of a case (should be an automatic discount), and we weren't happy with them. I didn't discover the lack of discount until we were home, and numerous calls to the winery made no difference. So we paid full price. On our second visit, we knew we couldn't bring food in if we wanted to eat in the court yard or their inside eating area, so we planned on ordering some of their food. Our tasting was good, but many of their wine prices have gone up over the last few years. You can tell this winery is closer to NOVA, since the prices reflect it. We did buy a few bottles (we couldn't justify a case due to the increased cost), and enjoyed one of them with a tapas platter at the winery. We had a good time and would go back, but will buy fewer wines due to the inflated prices.
The tasting prices were very reasonable. We love wine and thought the wine was average. The dining areas are very nice. Food was decent. The vineyards are lovely. A wedding was taking place while we were there. A great place for a party.
We were staying in Fredericksburg. It was an easy drive and a good afternoon. The wine tasting was simple and quick. They have good range of wines with some very good and some that I didn't care for. Afterward, we sat outside and ordered a Salumi platter. It was amazing. The french onion soup was very bland. Overall we had a great afternoon.
