Sometimes, spending a little time searching for a business can bring a bonus. Ron and his wife are very gracious and funny, with a great sense of humor. Both the Cab Franc and Chardonnay were worth the trip, as he has several years for you to taste, and different weather patterns change how each wine comes out. The bonus on my visit were the Fall colors on the drive out and up on the mountain side, which were beautiful. Also, due to being out on the back roads meant hardly any traffic, unlike in the National Park. The views from the winery are of George Washington National Forest, and they were outstanding! Remember to look at the base of the legal disclaimer sign, just inside the gate to the winery, and just over the bridge, for a little surprise. I'm telling you they have a sense of humor!
The is a special little family winery, and don't be fooled by the fact that they only have 2 wines, chardonney and cab franc. Ron, owner and wine maker, insists on taking you down into the winemaking room for a quick tour and explanation of how he makes wine. Then you go back up to the tasting room to do a "vertical" tasting. We tasted 2 different years of chardonneys and 4 different years of cab. The point is, he wants to show how different years grapes will change the way wine tastes year to year. Have to admit, I don't typically like cabs, but I liked these and bought a bottle. This place is way back a gravel driveway, but just keep going.....you'll be glad you did.
Very interesting family run winery but check your GPS. Our GPS took us to Worthington Lane which is nearby but not at the winery. This is happened to other people as well said the owners of the winery. One of the owners, Ron, will give you a nice overview of how they make the wine there. His wife is also very knowledgeable. We found it quite interesting. They do a vertical tasting. This is because they only do two wines there. The vertical tasting was excellent and we found the wines to be quite tasty. Would highly recommend stopping here.
We just visited the winery this past weekend and had a great experience. This is not a factory winery and is very much a boutique endeavor. Although it’s a bit more remote than most Virginia wineries, it was well worth the extra effort to get there. The drive was beautiful as is the vineyard and the location. The owners, Ron and Chris, were very gracious with their time, laughs and knowledge, explaining their obsession with quality over quantity and experiences with their vintages. The tour was very thorough and interesting. Their wine is some of (if not) the best Virginia wine we’ve ever tasted! (No exaggeration) We did a vertical tasting, which is probably the only tasting they do considering they only grow Cab Franc and Chardonnay, and were blown away. Go there and if you don’t walk away with a bottle (or case), then you just don’t like Virginia wine. Highly recommended and we can’t wait to go back.
We have been to over 160 Virginia in the past 9 or so years. This is the Best boutique winery we have had the pleasure to visit. The owner and his wife do it all. He gave us a tour first and then the tasting. They only make two wines and both are some of the best we have tasted in Virginia. We did vertical tastings of both and learned things we have not been told at any of the other wineries. This is a little off the beaten path but is extremely well worth the trip. Can't wait to return.
