While I have been staying in Staunton for the past three months I have come to Gypsy Hill Park to run almost every single day. It's a wonderful park with lots of cool things to do. Multiple playgrounds for children, skate park, tennis courts, duck pond, a little train, pool, and baseball diamonds. There is also a golf course higher up. They hold all kinds of events here and they do a great job of keeping the park clean and looking great! I have been coming to this park since I was a kid visiting my Grandma in Staunton and it's even better then it was then! You will see people here at all times of the day, especially on the weekends. People walk around the park, walk dogs, and it just has a great feel and atmosphere about it.
I participate in the Art in the Park at Gypsy Hill every year over Memorial Day weekend. It is one of my favorite shows.
This park is little yet large. It has baseball fields, a pool, children's playground, two ponds, skateboarding ramps, etc! I love driving around and seeing all the joggers and walkers. It's beautiful in the fall when the leaves have changed colors. I love this park!
My husband and I drove through the park on Christmas to check out the lights. The park was decorated beautifully and had something for everyone to enjoy!
My fiance, children, and I LOVE this park. I used to go to this park with my cousin in my younger years as well. There are trails, lots of play areas for the kids, beautiful birds to feed or just watch in the lake. A wonderful place to spend the day!!!
I'm really proud of this park. They have two playgrounds, a pool, tennis courts, and baseball fields. They also have a golf course, areas for local festivals, and picnic pavilions. There is a pond full of golden carp, ducks, geese, and swans. It's a very pleasant place to go. On the weekends during warm weather, there is a small train that the kids love and it only cost $1. Really the best park in the area.
It was an overcast day and we had rain in the morning. Did not go far but it brightened up in the afternoon, so we thought we would find somewhere to read our books for an hour. The park is large with plenty of car parking in the park. There is a lake with ducks and swans, slides for the kids, baseball pitches, etc. it was pleasant to spend an hour in the park watching the world go by.
Ok if you want to take a run or show the kids some carp and birds. Better as a venue for a concert if you are lucky.
We had many opportunities to explore this great park and truly enjoyed it. On our last hike, though, there was a guy teaching his pitbull to do rather "odd" tricks. It creeped me out. On the other hand, the pool looked beautiful (we never tried it), the baseball fields are gorgeous, and the train that runs on the weekends looked like a lot of fun for the younger set. The walking/ parking was very clear & easy and the duck pond was enjoyable.
I am so glad that someone mentioned coming to Gypsy Hill Park. I loved the duck/swan pond. The park is very well maintained and has several options of activities for people to do. There are pools, ball fields, picnic areas, and more. I can't wait to bring my kids back!
We spent a couple hours here resting and reading our books. The park is expansive and included playing fields and a golf course but we enjoyed the duck pond and the shady area nearby which was perfect for sitting and cooling our heels. Well worth a stop!
Really enjoyed this outdoor show. Relaxed atmosphere, plenty of space to spread chairs out, very friendly, well-mannered crowd.
This is one of my all time favorite small town parks. BEAUTIFUL duck/swan pond, small train for children and adults, pools, ball fields, picnic areas, pavilion, tennis courts and gazebo for outdoor music all surrounded by mature trees. I'm telling you it is such a lovely park.........go see for yourself. I love It!!!
I jogged around the entire park and could not believe the picnic areas, the pool, baseball fields, and the special pond for the ducks and geese.A wonderful place to walk around and just relax under the fresh grass and trees and a golf course! You should check it out!
We were visiting Staunton over the 4th weekend and found out this is where they have the fireworks display. We went over around 9 PM and listened to the live music for about an hour. They had a nice carnival like festival going on in the park. Everyone seemed to get along and we never felt out of place there. It was dark while we were in the park so I can't say too much about the daytime activities but the tennis court and pool looked well kept. We used one of many Porta Johns while we were there so I don't know about the permanent facilities cleanliness. We drove by during the next morning on our way to McDowell and it had already been cleaned up. You could hardly tell there was a carnival there the night before. It seems to be a very popular, safe place to visit along the lines of a smaller Boston Commons. The lake, the swans etc reminded us of the Commons. We enjoyed the time spent there and would visit again if time permitted.
