Memorial house is a re-creation of the house George Washing "probably" was born in. And the grounds are probably like the things he saw until he was three. At first I was disappointed it wasn't THE house. But...other historical structures that old have been "re-worked" and "preserved" and "sustained" (Mt. Vernon) so it was easy for me to get over the fact that Memorial House is not actually Georges. So it is like Plymouth, Mass or the Roanoke Frontier Culture Museum. An historically accurate replica. I am good with that.I have been to Ferry Farm, Mt. Vernon, the Grist Mill and even Ft. Washington and Alexandria (where George slept in all the row houses :), all associated with George Washington. The Memorial House is best for an up close look at how life went on back in the day where you dont have to look at everything from BEHIND THE VELVET ROPE! Great for grandkids and school kids.
This Memorial House was made in honor of George Washington. It is not an exact replica of his house (since the original house burned down) but it does offer the atmosphere and is furnished with what a home would have looked like back during those times. It is well-kept and very clean. Make sure to go upstairs (the stairs are kind of hidden in the back). I enjoyed the linens. They are very detailed and the people responsible for coming up with an idea of the place deserve a nod. They did a great job recreating what it must have been like for the times. The park ranger who worked inside was very sweet and helpful in directing us to other areas in George Washington's Birthplace.
