The Old Town Waterfront has much to offer for just walking around and window shopping around the area as there are many different stores and places to eat. You can spend a great amount of time looking inside the studios of the Torpedo Factory and then go outside on the water side and listen and watch people playing instruments or doing other acts as people pass by. Boat rides are also offered and the eateries nearby are also nice.
Grab a sandwich or ice cream cone and wander down to the waterfront. Lovely on a nice day and y can see the Capitol in Washington as well as take a boat ride or just relax with the ducks.
Quaint and picturesque are the best adjectives to describe Alexandria at Christmas. The old world quality and friendly people on the banks of the Potomac decorated for our favorite holiday. The only thing missing was a little snow! So much to see and do. Lovely walks along the waterfront or down the little streets and walkways take you back to what might have been a couple hundred years ago. Wonderful food in great little restaurants next to lovely boutiques to purchase trinkets for yourself or family and friends. Come visit our little treasure.
I and my family just love to visit the waterfront area in Old town especially on the weekends. There is a family park and lots of different shops. You will also find entertainers of various kinds; from glass musicals to balloon musical displays. There is also a museum very close to the waterfront, it was free when we visited. Overall, nice and peaceful for the whole family.
Posh. Peaceful. Eclectic. Trendy. Unique. This waterfront enclave has everything that a seasoned traveler could ask for. Ample shopping, including a dynamic mix of upscale, chain, and local retail. An amazing selection of restaurants, especially seafood, brunch, and tapas. Rich cobblestone road culture replete with street performers, charming locals, and a bevy of dogwalkers.
Love this area to walk around and shop/eat. Trendy shops with good restaurants. If you have time kill a little time in this area
Lots of activities near here but especially in the summer and fall and spring. Good places to eat nearby as well.
Beautiful, lots of shops, restaurants and bars. Everywhere I went friendly people. Had so much fun here!
It feel so peaceful walking around the water front , the views are awesome, There were restaurants and shops at the water front and nearby stroll up or down King street
I've been to Old Town Alexandria countless times but during a date with my husband we decided to venture beyond where we normally go. Who knew??? A beautiful harbor, shops and restaurants. Serene waters with a border of grass/trees and areas to sit and take it all in.It's reminds you of life's simple pleasures and with all of the development going on, the Waterfront is that much more appreciated.
Great for walking, watching birds and chitchatting with street artists. There is a water taxi one can take a ride in the Potomac but it starts operation in February.
Beautiful! Lots to do. I would give this 5 starts if there were no smoking. I'm a former smoker so I realize I am the biggest complainer about it. Seriously, smelled like a bar when I got back to the hotel
We walked around during January & freezing but still beautiful. During the summer, you can take a water taxi across the water to National Harbor. We definitely plan to come back during warmer weather to enjoy this area.
At the end of King Street sits the waterfront. The norm of stores and restaurants. Nothing special other than some nice views of the Potomac and in the distance the National Harbor. All in all in is not very big and it seems like access to different areas depends on which street your on.
We visited Old Town Alexandria in early December, so the waterfront was not at its best. However, it was still full of people and activity. It is a very nice waterfront but, in fairness, there are many cities with waterfronts that are nicer and more extensive then this one. The best part about visiting Old Town is the King Street corridor, including several city blocks on either side of King St itself. The shops and restaurants along King St are all done up for Christmas, and there are swarms of happy strollers that contribute to an attractive and lively atmosphere. Our advice for an "off-season" visit to Alexandria is to start with a quick stop at the waterfront to see the Torpedo Factory, but then spend more time enjoying the town itself, including the shops, restaurants and historical buildings.
