A very nice, if short, walk. Beautiful valley views. A really cool vista of the valley, from the deck suspended off the side of the mountain. Well worth the stop.
I'm a local & me, my husband & our kids visit this location at least 6 or 7 times a year & it never gets old. There is plenty of parking, the trails are paved, beautiful scenery & breathtaking views. There are little podiums along the paths to tell you interesting information about the rocks, woods & local lore surrounding the trails. There are quite a few spots on the side of the trails where it's kind of like a natural photo shoot spot, very nice. I would recommend this site seeing spit to anyone.
This is free, and quick hike for those with mobility concerns, not enough time or children that are just ready to go. The short hike is work it to catch a glimpse of the valley - what a view and worth the walk.
This is a beautiful short easy trail to enjoy. The overlook has beautiful views of the Shenandoah Valley. My only complaint is that there was some trash thrown about in the parking area and there was spray paint on some of the rock structures which took away from beauty. I assume it must have been some local residents that would destroy it because I can't imagine that tourists would carry spray paint in their luggage but I don't know for sure of course.
This was easy to find and walk. Great for people with mobility concerns. A short, flat walk delivered great views. Highly recommended!
This is a gem of a nature walk, accessible to all, leading to an astounding view over the valley of the South Fork Shenandoah River. The entrance to the trail is an attractive and inviting boardwalk with narrow, lengthwise boards which curve with the path, which is then paved for most of its length. The boardwalk picks up again shortly before ending at the platform overlooking the valley. The path is wide, level, and well kept, making it ideal for children, elderly, or others for whom tougher hiking trails just are not accessible. In late May, eastern towhees and pine warblers serenaded us our very leisurely 45-minute walk, and mountain laurel was just beginning to bloom. If you're looking for a pleasant, easy, free, and relatively quiet diversion in the Luray area, this is a winner.
This a trail that no matter what time of year you go it is wonderful. Of course Fall is my favorite and my families. The walk is easy and you have the opportunity to learn as you go.
The Massanutten Storybook Trail is very handicap friendly. It is fully paved and easy to negotiate, but there are also places to climb for the more energetic and agile youngsters in your party. It leads to an amazing view. This would make a lovely after dinner stroll to burn a few calories, as well.
we have been coming to the Massanutten are for the last 5 years and every time we come we do this trail walk with the kids, (18,13 and 7) and they love it we have fun we have done it in the morning at mid day and in the afternoon, it is always awesome, but the late afternoon in the spring time is the best with the sun at your back, and see the Orange sky fade away.
easy walk from the road. great views. easy to find. Clean, marked well with informative signs. small mar is that walmart is in view albiet in the distance.
This is a walk everyone can enjoy as it is even stroller friendly. You do have to keep an eye on your kids as there is a dangerous cliff at the end. There is a sturdy viewing platform at the end and it is extremely safe if you are responsible. But then you could always have a rebellious child who strays off the path and decides to experience the cliff unprotected. There are also a few places you can stop to take picture in the beautiful woods and on some rocks. The roads to get here are narrow.
Not very tiring and your kids (if below the age of 10) will enjoy. Once you reach the deck, the view is amazing!!
Not advertised at all, but a DEFINITELY must see & do while in the Luray area! Beautiful views of the valley below from the deck!
Go in June when the mountain laurel is out... then it is truly "storybook"! Go in the afternoon, when the sun is behind you, to catch the sunset over the Shenandoahs.
This is the perfect hiking trail for small children. It is paved to the top smooth enough to push a stroller, but there are lots of rock filled side trails to engage and interest the older kids who want to explore. Pretty view and lots of spots to stop and grab a picnic lunch.
