the cabin we rented I have stayed in before, it is large and has everthing you could think of a fire place hot tub, full kitchen. and it is near skyline drive, and laray caverns, you will love this place as much as we did!
Went to Luray for 10 yr anniversary and didn't know what to do until we came across Appalachian Adventures. We opted to go Horseback riding in August and saw wonderful views. We loved our time with them so much we choose to rent a cabin for Thanksgiving Weekend and do a different activity. We stayed at the Three Sisters Cabin and it was perfect! We enjoyed the wildlife that came around our cabin and sledding from the yard to the driveway with our daughters! (we bought some saucer sleds from a local "Taylors do it center") There were two tables, one seated 4 and one Table could seat 8 (was more than long enough to fit the family of 6) and all the food we made. The hot tube and Jacuzzi were great after a day riding all over the mountain sides on ATV's. We went for a two hour ATV ride and had some breath taking views. Matt is a great guide and coach if you have never ridden an ATV. The privacy is also fantastic and very much appreciated. I can't wait for our next trip.
I'm only rating this average because we did two activities: ATVs and Targeting. The ATVs were great - we went for an hour and everyone enjoyed the views and the terrain. Matt was great! Targeting, however, was awful. The instructor (forgot her name) was not confident and disorganized. She was so unsure, she even asked my husband how HE would instruct my daughter to hold a rife! We had been shooting once before in PA and there they set up a barrier which you stood behind and shot through a large opening over a counter. This shooting range looked like it was set up for archery, not guns. It's behind some sort of garage and there is absolutely NO protective barrier. It was a waste of time and money and really not safe. The instructor was flustered and unable to handle our group of 7. I would only recommend the ATVs, not the targeting.
We are disappointed to have received this review containing so many LITTLE DETAILS. Why were these issues not discussed with management? We take very seriously all complaints and comments, which help us grow. We thank ALL our guests who have given us excellent reviews and come back year after year to that specific cabin. We only wish that this person would have been FAIR ENOUGH to address these issues directly with us instead – he/she does not post his/her real name, and we don’t know when in October he/she came.We have to confess that many of the issues mentioned seem to be very “nitpicky”; however, we don’t think this is the proper forum to discuss them. Everything in life is about perspective; at least this person closes the review by saying: “We enjoyed ourselves”.We don’t deceive our guests, the website indicates the amenities. We appreciate those guests whose expectations are positive and treat us with fairness.
I booked the ATV trip for my family for my husband's birthday and we all had a blast. Matt was our ATV guide. We had never done anything like this before and we had a family of all ages and skill levels. He was able to really guide us and help us so we had the most fun and memorable experience. I really cannot say enough good things about Matt and how kind and awesome he truly was. He took tons of pictures for us and of us so we could remember the trip and the payoff of getting to see the awesome view of the top of the skyline was amazing! We even got a video! We could not have enjoyed our trip more!!!! Christy was very kind and helpful in the office and Matt was the best guide we could have ever asked for. No matter what level of skill you have - Matt will make sure you have a blast and keep you safe! We will definitely come back!!!! Thank you all!!! :-D!!!
My boyfriend and I reserved the 2 hour ATV ride with Matt and had an amazing experience. Matt was extremely patient and helpful while I learned to ride for the first time and was great with my boyfriend who is an experienced rider. I definitely recommend 2 hours as the first hour was focused on learning how to ride, learning the courses, and building up confidence to go faster. If this was the only thing rated, this would definitely be a five star experience. As for the check-in process, I would rate this 2-3 stars. Christie did a fantastic job booking our reservations and being very helpful. She instructed me multiple times to arrive to the office by 10 a.m. so we could sign paperwork and drive to the trail prior to our start time. She also suggested bringing cash for payment since there is a 5% fee for credit card transactions. We arrived at the office at 10 a.m. and no one was there. After calling a couple of times, a woman (not Christie) finally answered and said she would be on her way as they were just wrapping up a staff meeting. She arrived 15 minutes later and offered no apology for being late, and didn't even acknowledge us waiting for her as she was on a phone call and walked straight to the stairway. At the office, we signed paperwork and proceeded to pay with cash. The woman informed us that she didn't have change, which would've meant we needed to pay more than our total. We told her that wasn't acceptable and that we'd keep the difference to pay our guide (Matt). She still offered no apology, but I do appreciate that she wasn't rude and remained professional. From what I was told, the front office has various people helping while they fill a position, but I highly suggest they focus on customer service as this equally impacts the experience with Appalachian Adventures.
We had an awesome time and thoroughly enjoyed Matt, our ATV guide. Took some awesome pictures and created wonderful family memories! Thank you Appalachian Adventures!
The cabin was spectacular and Matt (ATV Instructor) was just awesome. We took the ATV's for 2 hours and had a blast. We saw many different things in the trails in the woods. The cabin itself was cool too. It had a roofed in Jacuzzi with Christmas lights as the dim light lighting up the Jacuzzi, which was a cool feeling at night. Overall just an amazing trip and it is especially good because it eliminates life's day-to-day stresses like appointments, cell phones (barely any signal for T-Mobile), and Facebook updates. It was nice to get back to nature and enjoy everything it had to offer.
We did the two hour ATV ride for my birthday and it was SPECTACULAR! Matt was our guide and he did an amazing job feeling out how comfortable we were and adjusting the tour to fit our needs. We had such a great time and will absolutely be going back!! I highly recommend this to anyone who has ever thought about riding ATV's (or even if not) because you will definitely not be disappointed. Appalachian Adventures has the BEST customer service, everyone was so friendly and willing to help and Francesca even met us at the end of the tour to make sure we had a great time. The experience was wonderful and I could not have asked for a better time. THANK YOU APPALACHIAN ADVENTURES!!! You made my birthday unforgettable!
ATV-ing is a fun way to spend the day with your kids and grandchildren especially when the host makes it so easy and understandable to drive one of these vehicles over rough terrain. Our host guide was Matt and we can't say enough positive compliments about his instructing skills and personal style in dealing with folks through a wide range of ages. We were very comfortable with him leading us through the trails. Personal safety is a top priority with Matt specifically ...and the Appalachian Adventures management in general. The "pre-safety" briefing when registering was very thorough and certainly well presented. Matt the guide on-site safety briefing was hands-on and personal to each driver. We found that if you heeded what was said, you enjoyed the experience even more. We give top marks to Appalachian and especially to Matt. Prepare yourselves for a delightful time. We'll be coming back for one of their other adventure opportunities!
Everyone was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend wearing water shoes and plenty of sunblock!
We were looking for a fun and safe adventure after days of touring monuments and museums in Washington, DC. The ladies who helped with our reservation made every effort to accommodate our special requests (tour time and duration due to our travel arrangements). Once we got to the trail, Matt showed outstanding patience with our 17 daughter as a new rider. The experience was safe, fun for all riding levels, and the scenery was beautiful.Only comment was the price for the length of trip. We took a longer trip for less money with a brief ride across a river in Missouri, but this was still a really fun trip. Also, there was only a port-o-potty at the office and NO FACILITIES on the trail which is tough if it is summer and you are trying to stay hydrated. You must do this if you are in Va. Thanks, Matt for the outstanding day!
The good: My husband and I did the 2 hour ATVs. I had never rode before and it was great. Matt was our guide and he was great. Not so good: The excursion was a bit of a splurge (expensive) so I was a little surprised that the guides rely solely on tips. I don't have a problem with tipping a guide for a job well-done but they should get a portion of the $300 I paid. Perhaps it's an industry practice I don't agree with. Nonetheless, it was worth it.Beware of the location, it's hard to find and the address on tripadvisor is not to the main office.
My husband and I visited Luray for our wedding anniversary. A colleague recommended Appalachian Adventures, and we quickly decided we would love to go horseback riding again! It had been years since either of us had been riding, and we thought it would be very special for our anniversary. We worked with Gabriella to schedule and book our ride. We both work full time, and she was very helpful in scheduling. We got to the main office to check in, and they helped us navigate to the barn. Gabriella was the guide for our ride, and she was absolutely great! She gave us all tips before riding, and helped us get settled. We then rode for about 45 minutes - and the scenery was beyond beautiful!!!!! We would highly recommend Appalachian Adventures and Gabriella to anyone visiting Luray!! We can't wait to come back! - Sean & Aneta
Being an avid equestrianist, I decided to take a short trip to try one of the local stables for a ride and stumbled across Appalachian Adventures Stables. Gabriella and her staff were the nicest, down to earth people that I have ever come across. The horses were well mannered and could not hurt a fly. Not only where the horses excellent but you can also tell that they are well loved and cared for.
