We visited Trump Winery over the Thanksgiving holiday with family while out on our own tour of the local vineyards. It was quite busy and we ended up joining with another couple for our tasting, but they were fun and friendly so it all worked out. The tasting price was reasonable. All of the wines were good, but the Cru was the only real standout for me. We'd definitely like to go back when it's warmer to enjoy the outside seating.
My wife and I had the great pleasure to discover this beautiful winery in company of the man who planted the vines 16 years ago when the Kluge created this vineyard.Today it is Virginia largest vineyards. Trump saved it from bankruptcy and rebuilt it with great taste and dedication to the excellence of the product. The tasting room is very elegant, warm and welcoming. The people are great and they even have a chef, so it is a real restaurant where one can order – as we did – very yummy crab cakes. We tasted the Rosé made from Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is refreshing and crisp with notes of red fruits. We also tasted the Chardonnay which is delicious and refreshing and is mostly stainless steel fermented. We also had the Cru, a blend created by the original winemaker, made of a blend of 100% Chardonnay juice fortified with Chardonnay brandy, a delicious aperitif. At the end, we got a box of chocolates made in Charlottesville by Gearharts. Its dark chocolate exterior coats an inner layer of Cru-infused ganache, what a treat. This is the best chocolate we ever had in the U.S. which is as good as the best Swiss chocolate!
Visited here today with my girlfriend. Our tasting was conducted by the lovely Anna Grace, who was knowledgeable and kind. We enjoyed the tasting very much. It included a few sparkling wines which is relatively rare for Virginia. Trump also offers the "Cru" which is a white wine which has brandy in it, very interesting. All in all a great experience. We look forward to visiting again in the future.
Busy wine tasting place. Worth the wait and the visit! There is a gorgeous outside patio/deck area in the back. Food is available to order (vegetarian option available). Its perfect to eat outside soaking up the sun's warmth sipping on some wine and a pretty view.
Great champagne, fabulous views around the estate. You will want to try to be there on a slow day(weekday, any non holiday) to enjoy unfettered service as it can be overly popular on the weekends, etc. I hope they do build the golf course they have planned there.
We enjoyed a Valentine's Day visit to this winery. The staff was wonderful and the wines are good. When we attended it was a madhouse, but we enjoyed our visit and our somoleir was fantastic. This location is designed for the younger crowd versus the mature solidly/confidently established crowd.
Visited here on Valentine's Day...very crowded but they had servers pouring wines while we were waiting. The Chardonnay was really smooth and tasty. My favorite of the day. Was very surprised at how small this tasting room is considering the Trump name is so BIG! Be prepared to wait! Go outside in the back and take in the view...beautiful!
The views of the Trump Winery were spectacular, the food was delicious, the staff was helpful and informed.
My husband and I visited the Trump Winery this past weekend. The time we were there it was not busy and we were welcomed right away. Everyone who was working spoke to us and was very pleasant. I would suggest if possible come during the week if you want to miss a crowd. People have many different tastes in wines so please remember that when giving and receiving reviews for a Winery. There were a few wines I really enjoyed and a couple I didn't. I would have to say my favorite was the Cru. They have a wonderful outside area with amazing views of their vineyard. After the tasting we ordered from the menu and had a bottle of our favorite wine for lunch. The menu was simple but everyone should be able to find something to enjoy. I did come home with wine and I will plan on visiting the winery again if for nothing else but to restock.
Came here on our Rte 20 wine excursion... and Chris was by far the most friendly employee of all wineries visited today. Made us laugh, made us more informed, and made us have a great time.... come to Trump to see Chris!
I have mixed emotions about Trump. We went there last fall (2014) and had an awesome experience. I was not on trip advisor then and could not post. Had I could five stars all the way. Went there this weekend and did not like the service. Very busy in the tasting room and the service suffered. We had multiple servers pouring wine with the feeling of "here is your wine taste it". We(party of 5) told our initial server of our complaint and she stepped up and served us by herself.Go to trump during the spring, summer, and fall because they have more room outside, great food, and some views that will make you fall in love with VA wine and the great views.
We were in the area and decided to give Trump a try, since we've tasted their wines a couple of times at festivals and such. We were hoping to get a better experience than we get at the festivals, where there are so many people converging that you get a quick, small pour and the name of the wine with little history or explanation. When we walked in, the tasting room was PACKED! It was completely crowded and there was little space at the bar to stand and enjoy a tasting and education of Trump winery. When a space did open up at the bar, we were greeted by a nice, pretty young lady (with long, dark blond hair (want to be sure we don't knock the only nice one there!) who was smiling). She put glasses out for us, but since she appeared to actually care about the customer experience, she was pulled from one side of the bar to the other to try to ensure good experiences by all the guests. Right after she put our glasses out and poured our first tasting, an old lady (with red-framed glasses) came over with scowl on her face and poured our next wine and walked away. No explanation or a "hello" or anything. We then watched her interaction with a gentleman who was simply buying a bottle to take to his table and she looked far from enthused to be helping him, which makes little sense, since selling bottles is what they strive to do as a business.Overall, we felt slightly rushed and were treated rather rude, when one of the ladies in our group made this clear, in a somewhat loud way to both of these ladies, the first (the pleasant one) clearly heard this and came back and finished our tasting for us. She was very accommodating after that, but was still clearly rushed to try to get all the patrons taken care of.This place was packed! They are in a college town, so be warned, there are LOTS of younger college-aged patrons, but they were all very respectable and not pushy. It simply lead to a busier, louder and more crowded experience than we typically enjoy at wineries. We prefer upper Loudon and Fauquier Counties for wineries as they aren't frequented by as many "Northern VA types" and coming down to the C'ville area, it seems that the local university can cause similar distractions. BUT - the wineries are plentiful in this area and well worth a visit. I just won't be coming back to this one!Regarding the grounds - BEAUTIFUL!!! The tasting room was beautiful too, but too small for their crowds. They only had one restroom (that I found) which is not enough, considering their crowds. They do offer food for sale and don't allow outside food to eat inside, which also doesn't appeal to us, as we bring snacks when we visit wineries. The area is unbelievably gorgeous! The wines we tasted were not quite to our liking, but that's just us... They definitely were not nearly as bad as the service.
Upon our arrival, we could see they were quite busy. It took our party of six quite some time to find a spot for a tasting. Once we found a spot the service just disappeared. We get a taste of one wine, the the server go help other folks for long periods of time, then forget where we were in the tasting. While it's wonderful they are busy, they should be properly staffed. One of the many servers we had clearly did not like her job and was less than polite. The other problem I have with this winery, is they only have one toilet in a single bathroom for all to share. You have dozens of folks drinking wine, and you only have one toilet and it didn't even flush. I tried several times and it had not been flushed from previous uses. The wines were nothing special, so we left empty handed. The building and grounds are beautiful, but we won't be making a second trip.
While the property and the Tasting Room were very well done, the wines were lackluster and below average for the region. Spend your time and money at Keswick or Veritas.
We weren't sure what to expect by a winery branded by Donald Trump! But our experience was very nice. We enjoyed many of the wines we tasted, particularly the sparkling rose. Then, we had an excellent lunch outside with stunning views and live music. It was an unexpected and totally relaxing and enjoyable experience. The tasting room was nice and there was plenty of space outdoors. We did not have our kids with us but the kids would have loved to picnic and we plan to take them next time.
