I like wetland areas in winter- no bugs, and the frozen shoreline makes the water's edge more visually interesting and more accessible. That is to say, you don't sink into the mud.My favorite area here is "Fossil Beach"- a small spit of sandy beach that has fossilized barnacles, scallop shells- it is a neat little area. For a good workout, there are trails for bikists and for joggers; I have not seen any horseback riders, but a few of the bike friendly trails are noted as "bridal paths", so maybe I have just missed the horses on the days I visited. With all of the manufactured family fun in the W'burg area, you should consider a visit here. Also some of the reviews here are obviously for 1) Yorktown Battlefield park or 2) Yorktown itself, so make sure you are going to the right place.
Do miss this place it covers all you could wish for a well kept state park with lots to do trails ,canoes to go on ,picnic sites and a beach . Great for a family day out it is very well organized and caters to lots of interests visit there website to find out what is open when as the seasons change so do the activities enjoy
We hold a church retreat here every year to enjoy a scenic place for outdoor worship. There is plenty of room afterwards for picnics and grilling. Lots of outdoor space and clean restrooms. Plenty of perking, there is a parking fee.
The park does a great job working with the public including free walking hikes where education specialist John Gresham helps you capture great images at the same time al; awhile learning about the history and the natural residents of the park. Treating bike trails too.
We love to go to York River State Park for the views and the many walking trails. The trails are wide and there are even workout stations along some of them. It's a great place for couples, families and kids.
Took the driving tour and then stopped to see various sites...including the indoor state park museum...great introduction to the area . Took an excellent tour led by a park ranger, explaining the battle of Yorktown while showing us where it was fought...lots of good info...well-presented...(and she did this presentation with a couple of school groups present as well...and still we felt part of the group.)
We made it around town on the Segway and I believe that is the only way to travel. What a lot of fun. Of course we tried the Segway back home first to make sure we could ride and control them. Just a grand way to tour a town.
What a great way to welcome autumn to the area, with a touch of yellow to the marsh grasses and a sprinkle of red on the forested maples. I think this state park is a good place to visit, rating it as good= between Ok and very good. Though from the parking area this park appears small, there are miles and miles of trails. Stop by the visitor center after the pay station for some insights on park activities and check out the informative displays on nature and history of the park's area. Trails well maintained, plenty of wildlife to see and experience. Stop by for a few hours you will not regret the views.
Once there for any time other than early in the morning or your very lucky many of the free parking spaces are gone on the weekend. However, there is a lot of free parking around the area. My recommendation is park on the shuttle route and to take the free shuttle to where you want to visit.
love the views of the par,k parking and access was grea,t nice drive to reach the park very peaceful and relaxing
Beautiful location, trees, river, pond, hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, canoeing - it has it all on the shores of the York River about 10 miles east of Norge (Williamsburg, VA).
This State Park offers so much. We did the sunset canoe. We had a great tour guide, Brad. He guided us through the York River with stories & history. It was so so pleasant. There was a group of Girl Scouts on our tour who were getting their "canoe" badge. It was so pleasant & easy. We had gone there before to do trails & butter fly garden (we saw amazing butterflies). Nice place to go.
We went to a wedding at the Amphitheater and it was beautiful, just as the bride was. The platform was situated right on the river and it was surrounded by pine trees and forest. Very beautiful Park
We went to the park for a wedding and loved it! The views are stunning! It is clean and well maintained. There is a $4 parking fee, but they gave us a gift card for a free Subway sandwich.
Staying in the area at a nearby RV park we decided to explore and took our small dog and a picnic to the park. We used the honor system to pay the $3.00 parking fee which is a small price to pay for such a nice park. We found a path down to the river which was a bit overgrown which made us cautious about critters that might be around, however we did make it to a small sandy beach with no incidents and were awed by the size of the river. Other then a group of kids having a supervised outing being very loud, it was a pleasant outing for us. No ticks ended upcoming home with us, however we do use a tick repellent on our dog which probably helped.
