I am not a race fan so this venue was of little interest to me, but I was here and went to a crafts fair that was held there. The facility is old and I guess if you want to see cars go left at high rates of speed this might be for you but not me.
We were on the grounds for a Dog Show. Parking was plentiful and there were plenty of ways to get into the building. This was an excellent place for a dog show.
If you've never seen a NASCAR race, this is a "must do" for 1 time. There isn't a bad seat in the house. Cool tailgating and partying before the race. Be sure to take a walk around the lower walkway around the track during the race. Cars are whipping by at 160 mph only 15 feet away from you. Not many tracks are set up this way. Downside: it's a short track, so they don't hit top speed. The neighborhood area around the track is a bit shady.
It was very noisy but really exciting. We went there for 300 Toyota owners and we enjoyed open paddock before the race and very interesting and dramatic race, with burning wheels and cars. There were a lot of services working very good - clean toilets without queues, a lot of food points with snacks, beer and some sausages and sandwiches. The parking was organized very very very good, despite there were huge number of cars, we were met by the people in bright vest which showed us exactly where can we park our car without any issue. If you want to have a parking place closer to the arena you should come a few hours in advance. There were a lot of shops with promo goods for every team and every racer, we bought some. Try to find some with a discounts, they are offering very good prices for the promo of previous races and seasons. The weak point was a people around, they were eating chips and snacks drinking beer and throwing the package and nut shells just under their seats. In the end of the race 80% of the people were absolutely drunk, toilets became very dirty and we could see even streams of urine on the ground and beer from the top of the arena. We bought the tickets with not very expensive price, so we were not very upset of the conditions. If you are not very gentle and your target is to see a good race, you should go and see by yourself. Have a nice time in Richmond Raceway.
The action track is sure to deliver. There is not a bad seat in the house, thanks to good planning and this being a smaller track. Sit in turns 1 or 2 and see the start/finish line, and a lot of the beatin and bangin. Sit on the main stretch and watch the pit crews go to work. This track never disappoints. The tailgating is really good, too, as there is loads of parking. You just can't go wrong seeing a race at RIR.
I'm just GLAD that our tickets were won and not paid for.RIR & Nascar makes ALOT of money catering to fans who don't know WHEN to STOP Drinking, and portable toilets that were overflowing all over the place! The parking situation was Murder..We caught a Shuttle from a nearby Shopping Center for a low fee, but when it came time to leave, we could not find our bus anywhere..walked around forever and no police would help us! I enjoy Nascar, but from now on- just Stay HOME and watch it..so you won't have a bunch of Drunks falling into you and onto the concrete sidewalks -Plus your own bathroom at home will be clean and useable!
We visited RIR for an Indian Pow Wow. Although my GPS took us to the wrong Luburnum (since there's an N, S, E, W) we made it there and were impressed with the ease of parking, and the indoor exhibition area. I imagine this area gets quite congested during big events and races, but when we were there it was easy.
Facilities are clean, improvements made since the last trip to the facility. Everybody we met was helpful. Good short track racing. Have done the NASCAR Racing Experience and it is a fun track to drive.
Okay, so the races aren't selling out these days but I do have to say that RIR is doing more and more to try to win back race fans. Dennis Bickmeyer is doing a great job of trying new things to create excitement about coming to the races. In the spring, there was a pre race track takeover. The September race had a post race track party. All fans were invited to come on the track and meet the chase drivers. It was a great idea and seemed to be very popular. Hats off to the staff at RIR for trying to do things for the fans. RIR is a great place to watch a race. If you haven't been, you should try it.
I've attended a number of racing events at RIR, they have a ton of things to do. They really focus on the fan experience
We had amazing seats across from pit road. We enjoyed the activities outside the track, and were pleased with the number of concessions and restrooms inside. This was our first visit to Richmond, and we really liked this track compared to some of the others we've visited. There was a place where all of the taxis picked people up, and the line went fairly quickly. The police made sure people walking up didn't catch the cabs without getting in line with everyone else.
Yep, I'm a New Yorker who loves Nascar ! Every year I go to 1 or 2 tracks that I've never been to. Richmond was AWESOME ! I had a great seat and saw a great race. It's always a pleasure to spend a weekend down south - the people are friendly and the pace is just right. Nice choice of food at the track too !
had an aswesome time at this track. Clean facilities, EASIEST parking ever and better than average seating (more room). Would definitely go again if I lived in the area!
We have been to a few race tracks and I love this track. The prerace activities easily can keep you busy the entire day. The seating is great. If you are sitting in the "upper" seats, you can take an elevator or escalator (great if you have a bum knee). Con: don't sit on the upper level. The only pro about it is you can see the whole track. Con, you can't see the cars or people on the track. Loved the post race party. Richmond has their traffic set up great. We got to the track and park very quickly. Then they quickly got the people out and on their way. Great job Richmond. Other cities could take some lessons on how well you move your traffic in and out of the park lot.
Upgraded seating was very good, worth extra money. Food options there are somewhat limited. This year's Sept. race was the most boring ever, but not the track's fault
