We stopped here after lunch at Citizen bc it is right across the street. I had not been to the capital since high school. Although we did a self tour, we stopped on the second floor and were given quite a wonderful history by the information clerk. She was great. We walked around inside and out and although we did not really have enough time, we did get to see most of the building. I will go back to finish up the tour next opportunity.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Capitol. We went on a guided tour and our guide was fantastic - she provided a lot of information and gave us tips on what else to see after our visit. If you are not interested in a guided tour then I feel you will still enjoy looking around on your own time. The building is magnificent and beautiful. This guided tour was free.
The cost is free and there is a lot of history. You are able to tour on your own or take a guided tour either way you don't want to miss this.
The underground entrance is a great way to start and enter the building. We walked around the Capitol building twice before we figured out how to get in the building. There is so much history regarding the Civil War in Richmond that it was moving to be in the place where decisions were made to go to war. A very interesting and beautiful building inside an out. You can go on a tour that lasts about an hour, or walk around independently. If you have the time, I would recommend the tour. And its free.
A visit to Virginia's Capitol Building is an immersion in American history, architectural excellence, Southern charm and great art. It is a not-to-miss Richmond treasure. Roger N.
Great place to visit. The visitor entrance is well designed. It was a joy to learn about the building's history as well as Virginia's history. We enjoyed getting a taste of how democracy works. We were impressed by the young students that intern at the senate.
This creation of Jefferson has been renovated recently and provides historic information about the nation's first elected governing body. Beautiful architecture.
The Capitol is beautiful and a lesson in history. Wereally enjoyed attending a session of the Senate.Sat in the gallery and had an amazing view ofour representatives in action. Also a nice quickservice lunch area, with seating up the stairs as well.
Visited the Capitol, General Assy. Bldg. as guest of Sen. Charles Colgan. Loads of great history. Introduced by a colleague of the Senator on the floor of the Senate and stood to applause-what a thrill. A very special day.
Virginia History is U.S. History. The tour was filled full of knowledge. Our High School students enjoyed each moment, especially attending the Morning Hour in the House Chamber.
Fantastic architectural and historical experience. The tour is free and worth your time. Building was designed by Thomas Jefferson and there is a magnificent sculpture of George Washington in the rotunda. I live in Richmond and this is one of my first stops when I have out of town guests.
The building and area is very historic ("The history of Virginia IS the history of America!" as the security guard said to us). Great, very knowledgeable tour guide.
A great tour guide made the capitol visit excellent. I was amazed at the ease of the comments and the knowledge.
The Capitol serves as a reminder of Virginia's initial contribution to our young country and its separation when it joined the Confederacy. The hall of Presidents, the original Senate chamber, and the current Senate and House of Delegates chambers are impressive.
The grounds were lovely. That's what I enjoyed the most, and the gardens and the statues.. Didn't go inside that day because it was closed.
