Wish tripadvisor had a ZERO rating for 'don't bother'!If you're 'into' crowds & have $$$ to burn on meaningless "stuff", the Village at S is the place to go. Having lived in Arlington for 25+ yrs, we've watched the area be "reborn" into a costly, taxpayer-subsidized sinkhole in part thanx to the poorly managed and over-priced Signature Theater which 'anchors' the V of S. Admittedly, we're "prejudiced" since we had our car towed($140 tow fee + cab fare) the last time we went to Signature Theater 'tho we parked exactly where the Signature T staff told us to ... and we were just 1 of 4 couples to suffer the same fate that nite! Arlington has far better areas to spend one's time & $$$ ... nearby Pentagon City is a bit better for restaurants (try Lebanese Taverna!) ... and Clarendon has far more variety across the board, i.e., restaurants, pubs, food stores, genl shopping ... + nearby Metro rail connections. (Metro's ongoing safety issues and yet another fatal accident this week might be considered a detractor, however, depending on how much a risk taker one is.)As another reviewer mentioned, Old Town Alexandria and Georgetown in DC are 2 other far better options for a day and/or nite out.
I keep thinking that it will get better but of about 30-35 shops, 25 are restaurants/bakeries/eats. Then there is one grocery anchoring the place, library, movie theatre and the Signature theatre, that leaves about a dozen stores mingled throughout. I went there for Christmas shopping because I hate malls and left with very little although I tried like mad to get everything done there. The toy store was tiny, crowded and overwhelming with only 4-6 people plus the staff, Periwinkle was hardly worth the effort, Hardwood Artisans is interesting but since high end quality furniture = extremely high end prices, it was mostly a place for the average Jane like me to look at, Cheestique is good as is Le Village Marche but this appeals mostly to women. If I were a guy I don't think I would have much interest in anything here unless I loved to cook or wanted to go to the library or theatre.
Like The Shirlington movie house. Pricey though. Like Guapo's Mexican Restaurant, yummy! Third time there, each time they had consistent clean food.
Very nice development with good restaurants and shops. But nothing historic or unique. If you are visiting DC and want a shopping fix, go to Old Town Alexandria or Georgetown DC.
I have lived here for ten years. We call it the best-kept secret in the Washington area. Arlington Country designed it as a "city center", and unlike like most, it works. It feels like a small town, with restaurants, a highly-ranked performing arts theatre, library, a movie theater that shows "indie" flicks, two wine bars, post office, hair salons, a wide range of excellent restaurants, outdoor tables, and - best of all - free parking. At Christmas time there are beautiful decorations, and we also have our own Oktoberfest. It's located off I-395, easy to get to. In the summer it is best to visit in the evening and enjoy the ambiance.Rare for this area, there is a modern bus station that takes you to the nearest metro station and other locations, with signs that tell you went the buses are leaving. We who live here rarely leave it - we find it is a refuge.
Shirlington is a little place with great restaurants and some shopping!I love the place and go by several times a week!I highly recommend the place. It also has the best movie house around if you like smart movies! They don't run stupid ones, so it is not a good place for kids!
I love walking around in village at Shirlington VA when ever possible! It has a wide options of restaurants, a movie theater a Library an Play theater and good walking and biking trail.....so much so that I call it all in one outing option when you are alone or with a friend or family !
Lots of great restaurants to choose from, a nice evening stroll. Dog friendly as well, many restaurants have patios for the pooch
The parking garage was a challenge and required two trips around before we found a space...but, it was free!
Just our first evening here but the Main Street had lots of restaurant seating out doors on a perfect autumn night. Smells from the restaurants and people laughing was great. Stopped ing a few specialty stores to browse and just relax after a busy day.
If you want a great meal, see a movie, and even grab a drink or shoot some pool this is a great place to visit. The shops are cute and there are plenty of things to do.
Great date spot with a village atmosphere. So many restaurant cuisines to choose from, and a choice of 7 theater venues.( Independents, international included in the film variety). Easy access off Shirley Memorial Hwy.
A delightful attempt to bring the best of the American small town within reach of downtown Washington,DC, the Village at Shirlington should not be missed when touring the nations's capital. A main street of two blocks right off I-395 joins together restaurants, shops and bars for a place for a lovely stroll. There is even a movie theatre, a live theatre and library on the West end as well as a full service super market plus a national television studio on the east end. The Village stands right in the middle of a number of apartment and condo complexes so everything is always in motion, particularly at night. Free parking at the garages on the south and west ends with the same option during the evenings and on weekends in the garage on the east that houses the WETA studios. A full array of restaurants to satisfy the tastes of a wide variety of guests, including a micro brewery. The Village is a great place for a nice meal as well as a relaxing walk "around town."
I was very surprised to find our hotel that we stayed at right at the end of the Village at Shirlington. Lines with restaurants and a few small shops, we had lunch and dinner options every day in addition to the hotel restaurant.
I've been to the Shirlington Village on four occasions and every time it gets better. This is a great place to hang out or spend a day. It stretches about three blocks and offers a wide range of really good restaurants from the Blue Sea to a Johnny Rockets. better! The village has a hotel (Hilton Garden Inn), a movie theater, a Harris Teeter grocery store and even a library and stage theater. I recommend it for a fun weekend.
