The DEA Museum across from the Pentagon City Metro Station and Pentagon City Mall is a MUST VISIT when in the WDC Area. Use the Yellow or Blue Metro Lines. Plan for a couple of hours, and don't rush your visit. Afterwards, eat dinner down the street @ Chevy's or at one of the great restaurants in the Pentagon City Mall.

I did not get to spend much time here because I did not find out about it until my trip was almost over. I will be going back. It is so interesting! I teach a class on drugs at a University and this museum provides a great history of drugs in America. It is basically a simplified version of my class. I even left feeling as though I learned something! The hours are kind of prohibitive (T-F until 4 pm) and parking is not easy, but admission is free so pay to park at the ramp across the street and enjoy the museum.

Great experience and coverage of history. This museum is broken down into two sections; one covering history of illegal drugs and one covering over-the-counter medication abuse. The sections covering the history and story of illegal drugs was excellent but when you enter the section on over-the-counter meds, the museum changes drastically. It becomes boring and you are inundated with facts and technical terms. Overall, a great museum to visit. Not kid friendly in any way.

See this sign every time I come home from Pentagon City Mall. Finally decided to go it on a "kick". My friend and I thought it would be a quick visit..but over 2 hours later...we left. It's a small museum, but packed with history presented with exhibits featuring videos, audio, reading and examples. We kept on saying "who knew" and ended up learning more and more. From the Opium Wars in China to the Opium Dens in SF and everything that came after. And be sure to visit the gift shop. There are some great things to buy. I kid you not.

Lovely little museum. Wife was sceptical but we both enjoyed the visit. One drug simply fills the void when the authorities gain control over another, so it's a never ending task. Wowed at the exhibit of the tunnel under the Mexico border. Please invest an hour of your time then you can go shopping in Macy's or the mall across the road.

Let's start off with the obvious: Free is a Very Good Price!The DEA museum is small but crammed with interesting details on the history of drugs in the USA. It delves into the Chinese Opium Wars as background to the growth of the opium use in 19th century US society as the first significant recreational use of the drug, then traces use and the fight against drugs up to the present.There is a clear message in the exhibit that drug use has negative consequences. There also is a lack of historical candor in the complicity of government actions in the drug trade; I saw no mention of the CIA's failure to stop, and possibly even their complicity in, heroin and cocaine dealing in the 1960s and 1980s.Still, it is well organized and well presented. The Audio tour does not add any information and does allow one to quickly run through the exhibits in under an hour, but there is so much to see that you will likely want to take longer.

This museum definantly has an agenda of presenting drug use in American society as the scounge of our existence and people can form their own opinion on the WAR on DRugs. BUT, even despite the slight appearance of propaganda ( including a list of all famous people and many common people killed by drugs in a binder near the door), this museum provides a comprehensive history of drug usage in the United States. From Opium to Bath Salt, its provides a nice history of epidemics and common usages of drugs in the United states as well as the evolution of drug laws

First lets say this is Free. Do check out their gift shop - they have a bit of a sense of humor.Parking garage located nearby - reasonable! Was 0-2 hours $2.oo 2-3hrs $3.oo 3-4hrs $4.oo 4-5hrs $5.oo 5-6hrs $6.oo Most reasonable parking in Metro area that I've come across. Do not know what street meter parking was. It was all full take. We went on a Friday at noon.There is a lot of info in this tiny museum. Easy to spend a lot of time just looking over items and reading & seeing article's. Focused more towards adults. Fascinating. Plan a shorter visit for children, they do try to and there is some hands on stuff. The staff is very helpful and informative. great time-line thru the years.There is a large collection of medicine/drugs towards the back . Bottles and tins, potions and prescriptions etc...

This was a small museum but enjoyable. We walked in at 4:30 PM and finished by 5:00 PM. We came upon it walking back from the Pentagon.

We rolled the dice on this one and I will give it an OK. Not a WOW, but an OK. We were a family of 4 and the kids got bored quick. I got more out of it. There were a few really cool smuggling exhibits and guns. I like history so It was great to read on the history of the DEA. We got rushed out at 4pm sharp, so plan to go before 2pm if you want to give it a good look. We got 45 min in there and I would have liked another 1/2 hr. 2 hours would be the most you could spend in here.Its easy to get to via the METRO. Go to the Pentagon City stop which exits into the pentagon city fashion mall. When you come up to the ground level floor go out the nearest exit and its directly across the street at the end of the block by the freeway overpasses. Be prepared to go thru a metal detector and screening to get inside. They wont allow liquids in but security will put them aside for you to reclaim on the way out. The gift shop was closed by the time we came out. There is no charge for admision. Its a lesser known museum in DC, but if youre into law enforcement it would be worth your time. You'll learn some VERY interesting facts in this tiny museum slipped into the ground floor of the HQTRS. Very near the Pentagon.

Even though it was a small museum, it was packed with a lot of information. Gives you a good intro and history and it has very interesting artifacts. We spent about an hour, not reading everything but picking what to read about.Worth circling around looking for a spot so that we can go in.

The museum is rather small but shows the evolution of drugs from the 1850's to the present. The museum displayed a lot of paraphernalia from the drug culture. There was a book there that had pictures of regular people ( I guess their families submitted the bios) and what drugs they took and how they died. A lot of the people in the book were in their early twenty's. The museum is only open Monday through Friday. I would recommend parking at the mall across the street. Please note that you will have to go though a security check to get in the museum.

Terrific place to visit if you're in the area. Lots of interesting items you won't see anyplace else. My kids enjoyed it and learned alot. It's alot easier to get to than people think - right next to the Pentagon City Metro / Mall.
