One of the deepest lakes in Texas is being drained by Austin and Georgetown. It should be a crime.I like the location and convenience but detest the way the lake is being destroyed!
Went hiking with some friends and had a great time. The trail was easy and had some really nice views. I plan on coming back to check out a few of the other trails.
Very awesome views combined with spectacular food! A diamond in the rough experience. Scenic views with amazing food. A great plus....a great place for the puppies to run after you experience the fantastic chow available at the marina!
We drove thru and took in all the views, it looks like a great place for family picnics and fishing. Wishing we could have spent more time here. We took lots of pictures.
Fishing is garbage lot hangups around the lake antagonized contantly by bored game wardens they drive stop walk to u ask for license then leave 1 hour later another warden this happend 4 times in 3 hours go find something to do other than that pretty scenery
If you want to water ski or fish I suppose it's okay, but there is nothign else to do aroudn the lake and virtually no food. Always pretty empty. I've never seen anyone bring any fish in with them. The lake has been low recently whichg makes it less attractive, just like all the lakes in the area.
I am biased, I grew up near Stillhouse so I am not as enamored with it as some may be. I enjoyed my weekend and summer visits, but do not remember anything spectacular about the area.
Me and my son dicited to take a road trip to Belton tX ,so we did and we didint' know what in the world we could do here,so we look up tripadviser belton tX and we find Stillhouse hollow lake ,so we diside to go there and we did and we loved it it was very very very very very beautiful and it was very very very very very very peaceful to we love this place even it just nice to take pithures and walk.
Unlike many Texas lakes, Stillhouse usually has beautiful blue water and not the brown or green muddy water. Combined with the white cliffs/bluffs on the east end of lake (near dam) makes for nice senic views. If boating on the lake WATCH OUT for stumps and dead trees. When out of the main body this lake can shallow fast (esp if the lake level is down)! For camping, you can't beat the Corps of Engineer campground at Dana Peak. The camping area sticks out into the lake and has water on three sides so you often get a nice breeze to cool things off. But there are no shade trees to bring an awning! The area near the dam at the cut to the marina has an underwater SCUBA park with training platforms and various items to explore. The marina has a small store, cafe and gas which are the only facilites on the lake (other then COE parks and campgrounds).
We stayed in union grove park, super large site, #9, with wonderful view of lake. Facilities were clean, lots of wildlife, deer, birds mostly. Staff was very nice and helpful. Site was level.
Its a nice lake, we fished from shore with very little luck. Plenty of space, not crowded. Started our visit at the marina to buy bait, friendly staff. We drove over to the day use area and worked the shore but the water is shallow and you have to wade way out to hit the fishing depths. So fishing was a bust, but it was a good spot to sit in the water and cool off after we were done.
Went there many times over the last 20 years. Had many great fishing adventures. They also have picknik tables and grills, of which we made use of. In the shallow parts kids also can go swimming.
When the lake is full, the Stillhouse Lake is a must visit!. We often go with friends or family for a nice swim, or take the boat out . Guys in the area really enjoy fishing there and have often caught some BIG ONES.
This is a nice place to go for a swim or hike. It will be very hot if you hike in July or August, but if there is enough water in the lake, go for a swim.
