Over priced and the value of the wine was terrible. The only plus side was the cut cut out you can take a picture in and the dogs were adorable and nice. Thye charged 16.99 for a tsating of 5 wines??? my husband and i totally shared the tastings, i have nevere paid that much for a tasting. the wines were just so, so. and if your looking for sweeter wines this is not the destination.
The owners make this place what it is....a great place to visit where everyone feels welcomed. Their wine is superb as well. They are part of the annual Lavender Festival which needs to be advertised more among the local hotels. This festival is scheduled for the 2nd Weekend of August EVERY YEAR. Don't miss it next year!!! And don't miss the winery...it is worth the short drive out of town.
We went on a Sunday and it was our last stop before going home after touring the other two the previous days. The calendar said they were having tastings for Sangrias also so I was extremely excited. We showed up and it was also Grape Stomping Festival. I wasn't impressed with the wines and the facility had fold out white table and chairs. They didn't have cheese and didn't offer the special Sangrias. They needed to push and sale their wines, they didn't have a family cozy feeling that I love so we didn't stay long. It was $11 for 5 different types of wine.
I was shocked to see where it was, walked in and greeted nicely. $10 tasting or $15 per couple to share. Was a little high compared the other winerys we visited that day. Wine was Ok, we didn't buy anything at this winery. Beautiful surroundings. Not much to purchase in the gift part area. They did not have any crackers, or gold fish to snack on in between wines. Best part of this winery was the owner, August. He was the kindest of them all. Talkative, friendly, and gave history on the wines as we tried them.
This is actually the first review I have left on TripAdvisor, though I use the website frequently when traveling due to the valuable insight from fellow travelers. What prompted me to follow through with actually writing a review was the rude customer service we received from the owner, Linda. My parents met my husband and I for a weekend outing in Brenham, as it is halfway between where we both live. We had just finished a delightful tour and wine tasting at a different winery close to Brenham before making our stop at Windy Winery. When we arrived, we found the atmosphere charming and were looking forward to a similar experience as we had at the first winery. A friendly lady greeted us upon entering and instructed us how to fill out the tasting form. While we were deciding, my parents and my husband and I thought we might get a couple of cheese plates to share. The lady helping serve the wines said that this was the Saturday that the wine club members come out to pick up their bottles and listen to live music. There were appetizers she offered to us instead for free, stating that it was the winery's treat, and a way to get people interested in joining their wine club. We felt great about that, grabbed a small dessert-size plate, and added some of the various dips, cheeses, tortilla chips, and little bread slices. After finishing the first wine sample, my mother and I went back to the counter. The friendly lady had stepped away and instead the owner was there chastising us. "Let me tell you how the 'buffet' works," she said brusquely. "It is not free for people who are not in the wine club. That will be $8 a head." My mother started to explain that we were told it was complementary, but the owner interrupted my mother to tell her the employee had been wrong. Again my mother attempted to convey we originally had wanted to purchase a cheese plate but had been told to help ourselves. The owner did not even acknowledge this statement and again said the employee was wrong - nothing further. I was shocked at how blunt she was to my mother! Linda did not even try to apologize for the misunderstanding on the part of the employee and instead made potential customers of hers feel undeservingly ashamed. That in no way is good customer service. We would never try to rip anyone off and had not been interested in the appetizers anyway until the employee mentioned them in place of the cheese plate. And the amount of food we had on our plates - probably about 10 chips, several small pieces of cheese, and a couple dips - did not add up to $8 worth. If you ask me, she was trying to rip US off. We ended up not feeling welcome, and drinking our samples as quickly as we could so we could leave. How was the wine, you may wonder? I personally didn't enjoy any except the Brazos Red, and even that was something I could take or leave. My husband and parents didn't find anything outstanding either. We now have no intention of returning or ever purchasing a wine from Windy Winery. I am disappointed because our wine tasting tour around Brenham ended the day on a sour note.
I love the owners of this winery. They are so cute. The lavender wine is such a fun refreshing beverage. The Indian paintbrushes were magnificent. It was a great stop on the wine tour.
The owners we so very friendly, they make you feel at home! Now the wine tasting is $10 a person, even if you buy the wine! I found that a bit steep, but whatever. The wine is so-so, nothing that I can't live without. But like I said, they were so sweet to talk with, so you wanna buy something. I bought a port for myself, 1 to give away and 1 wine for the basket I was making. They were all small bottles and cost about $70. Not worth it, but I didn't mind supporting a local business owner. Will I go back, probably not - but it was a nice visit and I am glad I stopped.
In the beautiful rolling hills of Brenham, TX, lies a little homestead that offers great tasting wines. The host and wine maker will make you feel at home and answer your curiosity about their wines, a nice selection of whites, blushes and reds. We always have a good visit there even if it is to taste the new wines or to sit and enjoy a glass ot 2.
We went for the "grape stomp" and for $25 a piece we got to slosh around in old grape juice, and step on a shirt, and ride around in a rough take on a hay ride. To actually taste the wine was $10 each. The wine itself left something to be desired... We found ourselves chugging the samples just to get them down. I seriously believe the blush was wild Irish rose that had been poured into the bottle. I would not recommend this to anyone else, check out saddlehorn winery instead, $5 for 4 wine samples and the wine is actually amazing!
Located just 10 minutes north of our B&B, Murski Homestead, we make a trek their way often. Linda and Augie (owners/vintners) are one of the most delightful German couples you will ever have occasion to meet! Their wines are distinctive in that they are made only with Texas grapes (kind of a rare thing). I always enjoy their food and wine pairings, the gumbo cookoff, the chili cookoff, their Bluebonnet Wine Trail offerings and other events they host throughout the year. Yellow Rose, Red Sunset and Independence are some of my favorites. Though serious about their wine making, they are not "snobbish" about it at all. Real down to earth and just a wonderful place to stop in for a spell!...plus take home a few bottles each time!
New wines released include a sweet red named Brazos Red and a blush named Brenham Blush. Even though I drink dry reds I like both of these. I think the hot weather begs a cool wine. And these both go well with the new nacho dish! Best front porch view of sunsets!!
A small family-run winery on the Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail. Their wine is excellent and they offer a wide variety to satisfy any pallate. The Winemaster loves to show people around and takes time to visit with you. His wife is artistic and creates artistic uses for used wine bottles. They love to offer many weekends with special events including live music and good food.Their location is off the beaten trail, but true to their name, there is always a good breeze going and lovely scenery to sit and enjoy a glass or their wine tasting. They offer a wine club with reasonable pricing. If you're looking for a fancy estabishment, you won't find it here, but you will enjoy yourself and love their wine!
Located on a paved local road off Texas 50 on a hilltop just outside Brenham, helpful signs made the Windy Winery easy to find. Upon arriving in a small lot, we loved seeing its Lone Star and longhorn outdoor decorations — they instantly reminded us that we were in Texas, nowhere else. Linda Meitzen, the Windy’s friendly owner/sommelier, chatted with us in her tasting room. She told us how her modest family-run winery crafts its Texas wines only from Texas grapes. The winemaking and bottling are all done on-site. For $10 each, we both sampled flights of her vintages. We especially enjoyed the Brazos Red and the Yellow Rose. After the wine tasting, we explored a thriving vineyard out back where we saw many plump grapes ripening under a hot Texas sun. We liked Linda's wines so much that we’ll return this year for more!
My friends and I were on a winery road trip. This took us to Windy Winery. The owners were so welcoming. As art of the wine trail we were to get a food taste paired with the wine taste. The owner not only made the appetizers she served she told us how to she made them. Then before we left she gave us an additional sample of her Sangria mix. A good stop on the trail.
We never visited a winery before. We were asked if we wanted to sample the wine; we said no because we didn't want to drink wine at noon, but wanted to walk through the vineyards. After that we had questions about the grapes on the vines and about where to buy the wine. The sommelier which was the owner or manager answered reluctantly a couple of questions and then said she has to stop me there because the other people sampling the wine are paying customers. I didn't know you must sample the wine before buying and because of how rude this person was we left and will go to another winery next time.Their brochure said old fashioned hospitality; which we did not see.How do you know the wine samplers were going to buy anything and we weren't; treat each customer the same!
