Pull off of the highway and pay a quick visit to this beautiful monument. It is very well tended and displays large flags for each branch of the US military.
Great historical recap of President Eisenhower in the Visitor Building. Tour of his home available (30 min) but can drive by and see beautiful bronze statue.
I didn't realize this was a veteran's monument until I read it, but if you are visiting the Frontier Village it would be worth a quick stop.
This is right along Interstate 35 and for some reason never noticed this site until just this past week. We need to take soem photos and post them on this site and will do the next time we are in that area. With the gardening around the monument and the flag poles this is a very attractive memorial.Look for the sign on the interstate and you will have to exit to get to the memorial.
To drive up to this enormous mounment reminds me of something you would see on Mt Rushmore. To walk around and see all the men and woman who have served our country to give us the freedom I enjoy today is "very moving". I am very proud to see my loved ones names on the bricks and many of my friends too.
The Eisenhower Veterans Monument is a nice monument, but there's really nothing to do here. It would have made more since to have established a nice city park with this monument as the centerpiece. Or to have put it with a museum such as the Dwight Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site. Instead, it's just a nice sculpture off the side of the highway. There's no reason to go here because you will see it off the highway and looking at the monument is the only thing that can be done here.
Nice historical site, the birthplace looks like it has been restored to period appearance.. Lot's of photo's and history info to view at visitor's center without admission charge.
I live in the area and I like the Eisenhower veterans monument I think it was a great addition to the area.... God bless all of our veterans and thank you... The frontier village is also nice to visit ... Both of which are in the Loy lake park... The park also hosts the areas Grayson county fair grounds... And our area Christmas lights presentation beginning in November ...... The one thing I would say negative is that the park itself could be vastly improved to complement the monument ..... There are picnic tables at the park but most of them are the old corp of engineer tables and are broken and in disrepair. If new tables and perhaps a nature trail we replaced around the lake......
This is a simple but attractive and wonderful tribute / memorial to those who sacrificed themselves for the betterment of our great country. Especially with our current state in both government and society, I hope we never lose sight of where we came from and what we were founded on as a country.
This monument is appropriate and respectful of Eisenhower. I think it would be more appropriate though to exist as part of a larger museum. God Bless those who have Served.
