My husband and I took a trip out to Duchman last year to celebrate our anniversary. We had a great time at the tasting and tour (short but informative). We also sat outside at a picnic table for a while, drinking wine and enjoying the scenery. I really appreciated that the staff wasn’t pushy at all about joining the wine club. Everyone was very relaxed/laid back. We had such a great experience we order wine from here regularly to give to friends for holidays and house warmings!
We are members of the wine club and enjoy their wines. We have not been able to make the pick up parties as they are not held at times that work for our schedule, and the pick up window before the wines are shipped is not that long. So membership has it drawbacks, but the tasting room is nice and the surroundings are beautiful, so it makes for a very nice afternoon day trip. A complimentary glass of wine at the time of pickup is a treat and combined with dinner in the area is a satisfying outing.
Enjoyed our afternoon sipping wine here. There are viewing windows to add to your knowledge of their process. It was very crowded. We went next door to enjoy the restaurant that was most superior!! However, the winery and restaurant are not "buddies" anymore. If you buy a bottle or glasses of wine from the winery, you can not take them into the restaurant. Bummer!
The wines were pretty average and the inside was very plain. you can however look behind the glass at the steel barrles and other wine making machines. the staff were well knowledgable and the grounds were beautiful. we did not buy a bottle , so we will prob not go back unless it was to look at the italian rest next door.
The grounds here are beautiful. The wines are even better. The people working behind the counter were friendly and informative. We ended up joining the wine club too. Then they gave us a glass to enjoy outside at the picnic tables. The Sangiovese and the Aglianico were both wonderful!
My husband and I made our first visit to Duchman and enjoyed every single red wine they served. So much so, we joined their wine club. After wine tasting we sat outside at the picnic tables and met some new friends. Afterwards we walked next door and ate dinner at Trattoria Lisina. EXCELLENT food! Next time we'll bring in a picnic lunch and sit under the big oak trees for the afternoon.
The winery has a good selection of whites and reds. Best of all you can see the whole production facility including bottling from air conditioned comport. The wines are reasonably priced too.
Went with a friend to a wine club party and I think I will sign my family up for the club! Great place to visit while having some awesome people working for them too! Loved the environment! Will share this treasure with other friends and family members also.
We enjoy patronizing Duchman Family Winery because of their using only Texas-grown grapes and their interest in producing Italian-style varietals, which we enjoy. We've always had friendly and helpful service in the tasting room. The wines are widely available around the state, so the main reason to visit the winery is for the pleasant Hill Country atmosphere. Bring some nice snacks and relax under the live oaks with a glass of wine.
This is the first winery I have been to out of the Napa area, so with fairness in mind but little to benchmark on...here I go. Tour-if you get a private tour, the information is good. The viewing rooms are well designed and easy to follow along. If you are on your own, there is no information, just a window to look at the barrels and vats.Wine- not a fan of the reds. Like 2 of the whites. but the good news is that there are 6 reds and 6 whites to try. Servers- nice, interesting to talk to if you arrive before noon on a Saturday. After noon, it gets really paced.Ambiance- The winery buys it grapes from around Texas. There are some vines to look at, and I think those were just recently planted, so there is some expected wine ambiance, but not much. The gardens to the front are pretty and the wine building itself has a nice façade and feel inside. Parking- is not well marked. the nice spots are all for the restaurant. the spots for the winery seem to be the leftover dirt spots (which is not a problem, but the signs were non-existent so we didn't know where to park or where to find the winery entrance). When you arrive, drive past the restaurant with the beautiful gardens, as soon as you pass this, park to your right and then cross the road to the large building that is not marked. that is the winery.Tasting fee is $10 for 6 tastes.
We were staying locally and popped in to this winery. Our server was very friendly and we enjoyed quite a few of the wines in the tasting. Their Viognier is especially good.
The estate is impressive and the views are beautiful. The wine is above average for a local winery, but don't expect much information from the wine tasting. We were literally told nothing about the wine. Overall, we think this is a good place to visit, but recommend the driftwood winery.
I came to Duchman recently with a large group on a Friday afternoon. I was immediately struck by how beautiful the landscaping is. I later learned that two of my cousins have been to weddings here, which was easy to imagine. Inside, the tasting room is also lovely. Despite a busy afternoon and the size of our group, we were immediately able to start tasting their wines - 6 tastes for $10. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and so we're some of the other patrons. The wine was very good and it was great to try some varietals I don't see very often. Overall we had a great time. Recommended!
from the Austin area this is a short drive into a gorgeous view. The wine tastings are reasonably priced and there is quite a variety of options. My husband likes dry reds and I like sweet whites and we could both be accommodated. Stay inside in the cool stone building or get some food and a bottle and enjoy the grounds. We hope to be back to enjoy one of their special events soon. Ps- we have been there both in the winter and summer seasons and both are gorgeous.
This Tuscan style winery is an easy 30 minute drive from Austin. The grounds are immaculate and the tasting room is bright and spacious. We had a great server who was very knowledgeable about the wines we tasted. They offer 12 wines and with a tasting you are allowed to taste 6. If you go with two people, do what we did and one of you order the first six, the other order the second six and share your tastes. This way you are able to taste all of the wines they offer. Not the largest pours for the tasting, but larger than other wineries we tasted in the region. Don't expect the bold red flavors that you are likely accustomed to with Cabs and Merlot; these wines are mostly Italian style which are still quite flavorful and 100% Texas grown. We joined the club and immediately had our tasting fee waived. Having just gotten back from Napa, the club prices here are a steal and it is well worth it to have access to their member events and such a great discount on their bottles.
