edinburg scenic wetlands

My wife and son went walking on the nature trails and it was clean and interesting. They had an event with a guy who was lending binoculars. He was pointing out different types of birds. It is definitely worth the 2 or 3 dollars to enjoy the nature and the a good walk.

Every time I stop here in always amazed at the diversity of birds in such a small space. Great for photography! I always get some incredible shots while there. The staff is incredibly helpful and will assist to find a particular species or identify an unknown for you. Quiet it's easily accessible and the park it's next also has some nice walking trails.

This along with the Estero Llano Grande areas are my favorite South Texas Birding locations. This site has quite a diverse showing and many of them. From the pink footed ducks in trees (Whistling ducks) and noisy Stilts in one water area to the plethora of heron (many varieties) and egret and pelican on the others it makes for quite a show. We even saw 2 osprey and a falcon on this trip. You never quite know what you'll see so be sure to have your binoculars and bird book ....though definitely not required for a great birding experience. Its a wonderful place to walk and relax and just watch the birds. Approximately 10 years ago I went to this area to just walk the trails and it turned out to be my first birding experience. I was so mesmerized by the number and how beautiful they were that I have been a more serious birder ever since.

Good staff, and plenty birds to keep even the most serious birder happy. Take time to stroll and observe the trees and water for unusual species.

I'm not a birder, but you become one while visiting the Edingburg Scenic Wetlands. The amount of wildlife the gathers there is pretty astonishing but also a reminder of how much man has destroyed the environment around the wetlands.

It is very representative of the Valley as it used to be before the concrete was poured in. There is water everywhere and birds, water turtles, native plants and trees, really really neat place to go find a place to sit, contemplate nature. Fill your lungs and soul with peace and quiet. It is next to this huge park that has very long walking paths. Ive been there several times biking which by the way you can also do. And lets not forget the huge pond with all those frienly ducks. They let you feed the ducks! Children have a ball! Great place to take the family, to go alone to walk, think, unwind. The entry to the wetlands is around 3 dollars ( not sure) the entrance to the park is FREE. Wow, Edinburg has done it right.

I was there with 2 classes, had fun...but I laugh when I think why it's called "scenic" ....unless you consider the sewage canal nearby scenic....oh and the smell too...that's pretty scenic and memorable as well lol.

This is an oasis in the middle of Edinburg and they are lucky enough to have plenty of water to fill their ponds, so there are usually plenty of ducks, teals, herons, and cormorants. They have also had a rare bird at their park, which I can now count (#316 Tropical Parula!). Great place to go on a stroll, but watch out for insects, my husband had a pretty angry wasp go after him.

Located within Edinburg Municipal Park this well maintained member of the World Birding Center has trails for strolling and bird watching. Water fowl, waders, thrush, warblers dabblers, rabbits and turtles can easily be viewed. If you are a birder this is a must site to visit. Check the web site for schedule of hours to avoid disappointment. But no worries if you are in town and the center is closed the Edinburg Municipal park has great nature walking trails to enjoy the birds and wild life while you stroll around two lakes.

This place is located just outside the city center of Edinburg. The visitor center is in a fairly new bright building with interpretative programs and a gift shop. There are two larger ponds and several smaller water features throughout the park. The walkways lead through a diversity of native plants which are explained on signs. We did not see many birds but it was close to noon which is not the best time for bird watching. Different ducks swam on the largest pond and lots of butterflies swarmed around the blooming wildflowers. We missed the bird feeders which we have seen in other parks where they are always surrounded by some birds. Nevertheless it is an interesting place and worth a visit because it is important to support the effort to keep some natural habitat for native animals. Entrance fee for adults is $ 3 and for seniors and children $ 2.

This is a small World Birding Center site but one of my favorites as it has so much to offer. It is accessible for strollers and wheelchairs and kids can see a lot in a short time. There are wetlands, walking trails, overlooks, decks, and a butterfly garden as well as a wonderful Visitor Center and Gift Shop. I found the information on the individual birds very comprehensive. The manager here is so helpful and is happy to assist you in planning your visit to the Rio Grande Valley Area. She not only recommended how much time to allow at other sites but also made phone calls for me to arrange a guided tram tour at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge and a trip to see the dolphins on South Padare Island. The serious birder may want to spend time at larger World Birding sites, but this is perfect for kids, people wanting to learn basics about the birds and those who don't have a lot of time. Admission was very reasonable for all you could see and do..

We go to Edinburg mostly for birding, but it's a wonderful outing for families as well. Nice gardens, wetlands and trails.

great place for taking an easy walk/hike. lots of birds for watching, plus it makes for a great place for having photos taken.
