Spring flowers are beginning to bloom and I can see why the town uses this location so much and for so many different events. This was a nice walk through history and I am so glad that some of the earliest owners saw the importance of the site and helped protect it until the State took it over. The site is open and there are no directors, but the signage is good and the exhibits tell the story in air conditioning, which is probably really important in South Texas humid summers. We really enjoyed this stop, though it is a short visit.
Nice small visitor center, but the grounds could use some TLC, but the weather in TX may make it difficult.
Well signed and maintained. Plenty of explanatory notices to explain the purpose of the historic site. It was very cold on the day of our visit, but the little museum was heated as were the excellent toilets (rest rooms, as the locals call them ) . We were amazed to discover that the entire facility was unmanned and yet so well presented.
This battlefield is not far from the main highway and was deserted when we were there. The grounds were not well maintained but there were interpretive signs that explained the battlefield well enough and a big monument in the middle. A small museum had no artifacts but did have good displays of the battlefield explaining what had happened there. It was of little interest for my family but I am interested in history and especially military history so this was a good stop for about 20 minutes and not far off our planned route. It's one of the important places in the history of Texas Independence.
