Small museum, easy access. Liked the history and Black nd White TV 50s exhibit of programs. Will return when Railroad museum fully open. Babe's next door has great fried chicken.
You can really get a perspective on the growth of Frisco here. Well done. I went with my son's field trip thinking it would be "okay." I left with a real perspective on this city. The guides were well selected.
The museum is small and just average. Be sure to go on a day when the outdoor buildings are open since they are not open all the time. I've been twice - once just to the museum and another time when the outdoor buildings were open. The buildings were the most interesting part. The volunteers really made the experience. The shared a lot of history about the buildings and the city of Frisco.
I really hate to give this rating, because the woman who met us in the museum lobby was SO kind. We went last week after the website said nothing about them being closed. We arrived to find it closed, but that some of it was viewable and the gift shop was open. We figured we'd look around and it was torn apart, but a kind lady told us it will open next week (now being this week). We entered the museum and bought our tickets in the gift shop. We were informed that the first floor was just redone and reopened and there is a 2nd floor too. We walked into the first floor and a nice German woman met us and she was very kind, personable, and knowledgeable. She was our favorite part of the visit. The museum was just redone, so I don't understand why the displays are peeling and why punctuations are missing from the writing. There are big open spaces, practically empty walls, and the layout doesn't make much sense. We were told to go upstairs and in front of us is a meeting room with doors wide open. Inside the room was groups of people eating. There was a random room to the left with just a timeline on the wall. Most of it didn't have anything to do with Frisco or the museum. The speakers didn't match where we were standing. We'd be nowhere near the exhibit and the speaker would go off for it and we'd look around like "??" The second floor had random things like a quilt area and old school things from homes back in the day. It didn't make any sense and was just in a random room. Then, there was a part about the railroad. It was very poorly put together and I was very, very disappointed, especially since it wasn't a free visit..
Friendly people - well informed; interesting displays and presentations. We have taken out of town visitors there and we all enjoyed the visit.
I visited the museum with my daughter's class, so we got a tour conducted by an employee, so I'm not sure if you typically get that going through the museum. It was really great & I learned a lot about Frisco. If you like history, you'll love this museum (tour or not)!
I liked the Frisco Heritage Museum as it is a good place to learn about the city's history. However, there is more that could be done to improve the experience. I wish they had a map showing historical land ownership and land use so we could see what the area now occupied by our subdivisions was used for and might of looked like. I think there is more of the Frisco story to tell - it might not be politically correct - but I think there is much more to our town than what we see or know. It would be interesting to hear stories about our city from people who lived here and be able to ask them questions. Plano is just getting around to revealing more of itself these days and I think Frisco should too.
The main building is nice and modern but doesn't have a very large collection. Unless you're really interested in salt and pepper shakers. It does have a few quilts and they do give a history of some of them that is good. There are a few historical buildings that have been brought to the site that are also good.
the museum was fun and gave a pretty good history of frisco,tx. not too big and takes a couple of hours. the railroad museum is still in developement stages and not available yet. lots of train cars for the new museum of future but not available yet. it is a couple of blocks away.
This little museum offers a big window of history. Its a must see. Its a walk back in time experience when in the school & church. Very rewarding experience. It is worth it
We visited the Heritage Museum last weekend kind of by accident. We thought we were at the railroad museum. But we decided to check out this one since we were already there. What a fun surprise! The staff/volunteers are fabulous, the admission price is inexpensive ($8 per family), and the nostalgia is priceless. My favorites were the 70's living room and the play farm for the kids. We wanted to see all the historical buildings - one room school,, church, farm house...- but they are only open the third Sunday of each month. We definitely want to go back for one of those tours as well. If you are in the area and have an hour or so to spare, check out the Frisco Heritage Museum.
