inner space cavern

The Inner space Cavern was discovered while building the main highway from San Antonio to Dallas (IH 35). When drilling for stability checks, the engineers hit a void hole and lowered a man down with just a hat light which was later discovered to be the largest room of the cavern. It's one of the only living caverns in Texas. The cavern has been preserved to reflect a natural setting and not filled with colored lights, etc to distort the natural beauty of nature. It's definitely worth a stop if passing through central Texas.

We have driven by the Inner Space Caverns everytime we drive to Austin and have never stopped before. We stopped today as a last adventure on our spring break trip. My husband really wanted to do the Hidden Passage Tour which is not lit (you use flaslights)and unpaved. We had our three kids (10,11,12) with us so we thought it might be a little more fun for them. I was a little apprehensive at first but was thrilled with the tour. Our guide Dawn was so knowledgeable and fun. She answered all our questions and was amazing with the kids (my son whose 10 was in HEAVEN and asked tons of questions). Dawn's knowledge about the caverns and the information she gave us really added to the spectacular views we saw on the tour. It was WELL worth the money and made our whole trip!

I wasn't expecting much to be honest, but I was pleasantly surprised. What a nice place. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff and guides. Interesting story on how the cave was found constructing the highway. Nice gift shop and grounds. Easily walk-able for most kids and older adults for the general tour. Wasn't very cheap but what can you expect when it is literally under a major highway.

Easy hike, really nice guides, our grandkids love going there.The cavern has some interesting formations and is right next to I-35, so very easy to access

Really great tour. There was more I wanted to see in an extended tour, but we had the little kids with us and it will have to wait til next time.

Beautiful formations and careful attention to lighting make this a special cave in central Texas. Discovered in the 60s by spelunkers lowered by road building equipment, this cave has a lot more of those delicate formations we expect to see.

Took the family here. 4 girls ages 5-14. Everyone enjoyed the tour. Enough history and science to keep adults interested and plenty of fun facts for the kids. Nice and cool underground, so it was a relief from the Texas heat. We would go back

We've visited Inner Space Caverns on several occasions over the last 15 years, often taking out-of-town guests for the experience. The caves are really a fascinating piece of local history and the tours provided are quite informative and educational. It's like a 'mini Mammoth Caves', right in our own backyard here in Georgetown. I highly recommend a visit!

Caverns are odd things with unique formations. The evolution of things like how "soda straws" are created is explained on this informative tour. Tour guides are young and energetic. They have names for many of the bizarre structures dotting the subterranean walking path. If you want to be adventurous sign up in advanced for the 4 hour off the beaten path cave exploration. My next visit I will be donning my headlamp, knee pads, and other equipment for exploration in the pitch dark.

Stopped here with the family, very interesting and beautiful. The cave has other more extensive adventures but you need to be at least 13 years old. Great place to visit

When it is 100 degrees plus, Inner Space Cavern is a great place to go! It is a small cavern, but has some beautiful formations. I have lived in Georgetown for 27 years, and it is a great place to take out of town company - especially in the summer when temperatures are so high - nice and cool in the cavern. The story about how the cavern was discovered is also interesting.

If you're interested in caves or have never seen a cave then it's definitely worth a trip. The caves were big, easily accessible (at least in the Adventure Tour) and beautiful. Our guide Tony was very funny, patient and knowledgable. He had great stories about the cave formations. They show you total darkness. The caves are warm inside all year long and it was wet when we were there but not very muddy. They have bones and fossils that have been pulled from the cave floors and bone sinks. They have a nice gift shop and a little snack bar. Informative, polite, and enthusiastic staff. Other activities for the kids. Definitely worth the money. I am planning to go back for the more challenging tours.

If you've visited any of the east coast caves in Virginia or Kentucky you will be disappointed in this one. It was surprisingly drab inside - I suppose the colors underground reflect the palate on the surface- various shade of beige. The story behind the discovery and development of the cave is interesting and probably unique in the world of commercial cave attractions. 6 adults and one kid set me back over $130. I guess if you've never been in a cave before and may never see Luray or Mammoth, it may be worth the stop - just temper your expectations.

Coming into the parking lot this looked like a tourist trap that was mostly closed up for the winter. Going inside we found a small gift shop, snack bar and ticket counter. The lady at the ticket counter was very helpful explaining the tours to us. We took the adventure tour and it was very nice. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Nice tour. There is a steep walk down into the cavern and back out and some of the ceilings inside are low. This was a nice visit without the frilly hype that might have been there during tourist season.

Lauren B. Our guide was awesome. We decided to be more adventurous and take the Hidden Tour which went into a newer part of the cave and uses flashlights. Glad we did since it was awesome. There were some great features and overall it was easy for the seniors in our group and the younger kids (8 yrs old) handled it easily. It's reasonable and a great get-away close to Austin. Plan on being there a couple hours overall if your taking the Adventure Tour or a little longer for the Hidden tour. There's a little more to do there than just the cave and there's a good sized gift shop too. There's a small snack bar but don't expect too much to fill up on. We had a great time and will most likely return.
